Business Insider are reporting that so many people are visiting to see the hole, they’re now planning to preserve a section to keep the curious tourists flooding in.

"This gives us one more asset ... to be able to attract those folks that maybe just having Corvettes on display would not get them to come here," said museum Executive Director Wendell Strode. "We think it will continue for some time to be of great interest."

So there you go. The people have spoken. A massive hole in the ground is more interesting than a Corvette.

This just sounds like a really bad idea. How long before some curious five year old slips past their parent and under the rail only to stumble down into a massive hole? Even if the kid makes it out of there would be law suits. To me it sounds like this conversation went on in a GM conference room somewhere:

“Well, do we have enough money to fill the hole in?”
“No sir”
“Alright, here’s what we’ll do, buy as much fill as we can, then whatever hole is left becomes a new attraction!”
“Genius idea sir.”

Here's the funniest part of the whole story:

Plans are to leave the entire sinkhole and the eight Corvettes on display through the end of August, and construction on the "revised" sinkhole would then begin in September, the museum said.

Judging from every Corvette I've worked on, once you have a hole it only gets bigger, looser, and weaker. I think they should pack up & high tail it outta there…...

Maybe GM can open a museum showcasing the hole they're in right now!

This forum needs a like button so bad.

When I visited the Corvette Museum in 2007, I had a chance to drive through some beautiful country with some interesting natural geology and rock formations near Bowling Green - it was a quick trip and I didn't get much chance to look around. It's on the list to go back. it sounds like the sinkhole is related to the natural geography in that region. I'd be interested if the msueum just dedicated this part of the museum to information about the local area. There is a lot more to do and see in that part of the country than the Corvette Museum.

So if they display this next to the glass covered sink hole, that could be a pretty decent attraction.

Completely agree. Tells the whole story.

I would imagine that conversation would be about how many Corvettes it would take to fill the sink hole?

What do you call 8 Corvettes in a sink hole? A good start! (my apologies to the lawyer joke industry)
