I have a Beck replica 550 Spyder, and when asked, I always say "it's a replica of a '55 Porsche 550 Spyder", emphasizing the "replica".

I have met many replica owners who, for whatever reason, don't bother to specify their cars are replicas.

But anybody who knows old Porsches can spot a fake easily.

EDIT: It's also pretty unusual to see a real Speedster on the road, as they're worth anywhere from $300,000 to $450,000. Add a million if it's a 4-cam car.

My apologies for posting it. I didn’t realize this thread was for only real cars. Just thought you guys would be interested in seeing it.

Nobody ever said or implied it's "for only real cars".

All anyone said is what you saw was probably a replica.

What's so horrible about that?

EDIT: The Lambo Countach I saw yesterday looked legit, but the odds are good it was a replica too, as the values of those generally keep owners from driving them in dozy phone-obsessed traffic.

Interesting cars are interesting cars, replica or not.

Mine is a work in progress, as is almost everything else I own. I bought the car in 1995, cheap for what it was, as it was running on 3 cylinders and had an assortment of backyard builder buggery. Fixed most everything, drove it daily for a while, then the high-lift cam and stiff valve springs destroyed the stock VW timing gear whoever built the engine thought was appropriate. Started the rebuild with lotsa upgrades, big-valve heads, straight-cut steel timing gears, major chassis and suspension mods, a few body mods, etc. Had some difficult business and personal stuff to work through, and haven't had any indoor space to work on it since 2013. That will change when I get it to the new place in Arizona later this or early next year.

Shown engine-out in about 2015, being guarded by Spooky, my vicious attack cat.

There was a beat up silver Speedster in my Phoenix neighborhood.  Use to see it puttering around all the time.  Pretty sure it was real, looked like it had 60+ years of wear and tear.

For recent sightings, I saw a number of ‘tuner’ style Japanese sports cars/etc on the road an in parking lots the last few days in the Outer Banks of NC.  Some slammed, some with cambered wheels, custom paint, giant wings.  Acura NSX, 3 Mitsubishi 3000 GTs—incl a beige Spyder and a black RHD GTO, a couple Evos, a gray R32 Skyline GT-R, lots of Civics.  Must have been some event going on.  When I was in Myrtle Beach last week, I found out had been Mustang Week—-saw a bunch of sweet Mustangs of all eras on the way into town.    Saw a white Ferrari Roma today, first I’d seen.  Saw a minty gold ‘83 RX-7 on I-64 in VA (guessed it was an ‘83 because the plate said ‘FINE 83’.  Also saw a couple nice 90s 993-era 911s in traffic.   Saw a gorgeous white w/ turquoise interior '66 Eldorado convertible rolling top down in Murrell's Inlet SC...

I did see a Bronco Outer Banks edition in that sweet green in, of all places, the Outer Banks (Corolla, to be specific).

2300 miles of driving over 9 days and 7 states, alas most of the freeway traffic that I saw was pretty boring.

Saw one of these parked in the "hipster" area (Union St) of San Francisco on Saturday.  Taking up a rare parking spot for a promotion-people had to line up just to SIT in it.  May I present to you the Aptera solar powered car.  No, it didn't move.

Promotional photo

Note their own photo shows no one looking at the car and its parked to take up 2 or 3 parking slots.  Wonder who their target audience is.  I've found breathless stories about this going back almost 15 years.  Reminds me (aeronautical reference) of TIGHAR and the search for Amelia Earhart-"Give us just a few more bucks and we'll solve this for certain."

Saw what me and my dad like to call "The Matlock Special" out in the College parking lot yesterday. Looks to be a 1990-91 Crown Vic

Wow! That’s in really nice shape for an Ontario car. Maybe came from down south.

Yes it is in pretty nice shape, however the rocker on the other side was a little nasty with rust, but otherwise very well preserved. Next time I see it I'll check for a dealer badge or sticker on the trunk to see where it came from.

Was that taken in Victoria? That one was built in Red Deer.

Yes it was in Victoria. Last weekend. Cool. Do you know more about it?

Not a whole lot, but it showed up frequently on cruise nights. Would make a cool project in scale. I'll find more pics.

Unless he's sold it to someone out there, he'd better head home fairly soon or he might not make it across the Coquihalla :P
