Finally got the 2001 PT Cruiser from-hell to pass emissions with the onboard OBD II system happily reading everything within normal parameters.

The owner has been getting warnings from various local constabularies for having an expired tag (an annual emissions test is a prerequisite for having your tag renewed here and there's no sniffer-test option as some states have in case the OBD system is glitchy) and has had all the paperwork in the car to slip the noose, but it's been a real stress-maker for her. Frustrating for me too, spending every weekend since I repaired everything the last bunch of chimps did to it that resulted in it first blowing the head gasket and then stripping its timing belt thousands of miles early. I've been chasing glitches in wiring, sensors, and a computer that thought the cat was failing when it wasn't.

Little car is clean, tagged and legal now, and I'm done. Yippee !!

Taking the rest of this beautiful sunny day to work at home, clean up some paperwork, lay out the harness and computer reflash for the LS-powered '47 Caddy I'm building for Mills, and GO FOR A LONG WALK !!! (Might take a nap too. Don't tell anybody) ;)

That's the best way Carl, just end it.

I, on the other hand, had assistance from my lovely wife. She decided we would quit smoking so she did. Just like that. She also provided the best incentive ever for me to quit.

Her plan? "You quit smoking Gray or I'll punch you in the f++++g head."

I quit right then and there.

;)

Congrats to all who have quit smoking, as it is a MAJOR accomplishment and helpful in collecting more pension and social security checks.

Thanks G and Nick, i had a hard time trying the tapper down method. They gave a small class at work on tips to help. They said after the first 3 days most of the nicotine is out of your system and it gets better after the first week. They was right. In the morning was hard but got better. i feel as if i have never smoked. Only way to quiet is just stop....

I took a day off from work today to get to a doctor appointment, so I got the opportunity to enjoy the 50+ degree temperatures. That felt so good after putting up with the record cold temps we've had here this winter. I had a chance to get a bit of airbrushing done before the temps dropped too low again.

Having the day off on St. Paddy's day allowed me to cook a corned beef brisket in our slow-cooker. 8 hours later, we had a piece of meat that just fell to tasty, tasty pieces as I sliced it.

Congratulations to those of you celebrating being smoke free. You've done something good, not just for yourselves, but for the people around you. Please, keep it up!

I'm pleased because I've been working from home since last Wednesday. My boss is traveling and if he's not in the office, there is no reason to be there. I just sit here in my home office in my on-line meetings and get other work done by phone and email. I think I've left the house once since Monday. A blast of wet snow predicted for tomorrow and guess what? I don't have to go anywhere!

I'm pleased because the incident I posted about in "What Irked Me..." and the resulting investigation proved me innocent of any wrong doing or unnecessary force (Whatever THAT is...) in the performance of my duties while fending off an attack. It's good to know that I won't lose my job or be criminally charged for my attempt at returning home safely to my family. Now--back to models.

My 2 year-old Aqueon Pro aquarium heater failed last night and dang near cooked my fish- good thing I check the temp a couple of times a day as it got up to 89 degrees before I unplugged it. The heater has a lifetime warranty so I took it back to Petco this morning and they replaced it even though I couldn't find the receipt. Yay for Petco customer service!

It's warm and dry. B) Walked to the bank and the grocery store, started working on the 10-speed bike. Sat in the sun for an hour and got caught up reading my Desktop Engineering and Design News mags. Had a great tuna / tomato samwidge, now working outside on some of my own vehicles and projects. No huge deadlines hanging over head at the moment, and all fires, if not out, are at least under control.

Some days it's actually pretty nice to be alive...even though the pretty Russian girl at the bank wasn't there today. ;)

Bill, it sounds like you need another PT Cruiser to work on !

Well, I'm retrofitting my old '89 GMC shop truck with a carb and HEI distributor after the computer and associated bits went belly-up.

What looked like a real piece of cake going in has turned into a loose-ends fest, with the EGR location needing to be turned into a heat source for the automatic choke, a bypass fuel pressure regulator that avoids having to drop the tank to change pumps, all weird and wonderful fittings on the GM fuel injection supply and return hoses that don't screw into anything I have for old US or Euro cars...so I'm having to make up fittings, the fact the pump is computer-controlled, so I have to bypass that circuit too...it's gonna be a while.

Still, it's mine, and when it's done I don't have to worry about ancient EFI electronics failing on the road...and anything that DOES fail is an easy parking-lot fix. B)
