Got into my truck last night at the end of the day...was reading 40 degrees C. In the shade. That's 104 F.

Thank goodness for AC. Both in the vehicles and in the home. Hands down the best upgrade we've done to our house.

The weather gurus are saying rain this evening, so that should cool things down nicely.

AC is a must in this heat especially for those of us who are no longer young. We had a nice cool down with winds coming through from Beryl but no rain here in MD.

Our office is in a very nice Class A building in the 'burbs. Periodically they have a mobile car wash come into the parking lot.  Washes are expensive but I had a coupon courtesy of the landlord for a free basic wash.  I went down and talked with the two young men and asked if they could do anything about remnants of the bachelor quantity dog yak I wasn't able to clean out of the pocket where the seat buckle is.  I said she missed the carpet, door panels and even the seat back!  Guys said they couldn't make any promises but they would try.  I told them I tip well if you can get it better than my fat fingers could.  Couple hours later, they called me my car was ready.  I went down and one of them opened the door and it was immaculate.  They didn't charge me anything and I tipped them each $40!  They were stunned!!  I said I was once young and had to work out in this 90 degree plus heat so I appreciate their hard work!

Riley has to go to the groomer tomorrow so I will take several blankets to cover everything.

Snuck out of the shop after lunch (OK since I'm pretty much self-employed) and went for a 2-hour hike in the skin-searing end-of-the-world 97-deg F heat.

OMG!!! OMG!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!  Somehow I didn't die.   image.png.69f1cd4f693c1b841bdba17c7cdf81aa.png

And it feels nice and cool in my un-airconed 82-deg house now...which I'll have down to 72 by sunrise after I run the whole-house exhaust fan all night to pull in cool outside air.

I wonder how many of the folks tearing their hair out and gluing themselves to things in protest about "climate change" actually DO as much about conserving energy (and thereby reducing carbon emissions) as I do.

It's cheap too. To run the AC in my last place cost $400-$600 per month before I implemented a few simple changes. But my monthly power bill in summer the way I live now is only $50.

EDIT: And the system I use is hardly optimised. With a little effort, I could get it a LOT cooler in here for not much money at all.

When my family moved her June 30, 1980 I swear i thought I was going to  die.  One of the hottest summers of consecutive day of a 100 or more. I wanted to go back home but being young I dealt with the heat better then now..

Thursday I was Deposed for an accident on a jobsite. The deposition took about 8 hr. and with the drive time, lawyer time and a few short breaks it was a 12hr day. I'm thankful that is over!

I'm also thankful to have shut the cell phone off yesterday as I went on an all-day 230-mile loop on the Roadking. I stayed on as many backroads as possible, even a couple gravel roads. It was a beautiful day to get "Right", again!

Right after I got home from work, I got a text message from the General Manager of my bus company that said the summer camp that we're under contract with for 13 buses has cancelled everything for tomorrow due the heat. It'll be close to 100 in Boston according to the weather report. However, the other drivers and I will still be getting paid. It's AC City for me. ?

That is Good News, Les. Glad there is an improvement, even if it was not a big one.

Great News! I bought my first house 14 years ago. It is nice not to rent anymore.

I hope you have many happy years there. I weren't in California, I'd Be over with a Loaf of French Bread and a bottle of Muscat Canelli to celebrate!

Congratulations on your new home. Insulate those walls and some sheet rock and semi-gloss white paint and make it a real pleasant place to work on your cars.

Thanks! I've already been pricing for that and I want to coat that floor. Oh and install a ceiling fan.

Some window curtains would help keep nosey peepers from eyeing up your goodies too. Even if the windows are up high, thieves will still be curious plus it'll cut down on the sun from heating things up in there. ✌️?

I have done both of those in the past. Home Depot or Lowes has some great deals on ceiling fans. We added two too our garage when we moved a couple of years ago and had done the same at our old house. Something to consider on the painted floor. For a model room with light foot traffic with proper prep the floor paint kits at the home supply stores should be ok. In the case of a garage floor with cars coming and going, get a pro to do it. I did all the prep per the instruction including the acid etching for the floor before painting the garage floor. Allowed the floor to dry for the better part of a week, and when my wife came home from work, she parked her car in the garage. The next morning, she backed out and lifted an impression of her four tires. The other problem was my floor jack and stands along with my creeper would leave marks all over the floor. At the last house we had a local company that specialized in doing cabinets and floor in garages and commercial applications. Ten years later the floors still looked as good as new, in fact per our real estate agent, as soon as he saw the garage he called his wife and said they're buying our house. Turns out he is one of the top techs at the local Audi dealership, so you know he appreciated it.

Good advice! I'll look into having a pro do the floor.

Sometimes being pleased is just learning of something that may be a new innovation that you hadn't been aware of that may help someone. During the one sentence game Bill, Ace-Garageguy and his infinite knowledge of all things posted about magnets being used to treat depression. My brother has been battling depression for years and just gave up due to not wanting to be heavily medicated. It has made him become secluded like a hermit to the point he misses all family functions and was even a no show at our dad's funeral.. I'm in hopes that this method will be one he can get behind and try. ?

I've learned many things here on the forum and I am grateful for the kindness, well wishes and wealth of knowledge that's offered from everyone.

Looks like a no brainer too me! The articles were very descriptive and left me with no questions or concerns. We have two facilities that offer TMS services within 19 miles of us, doesn't get much better than that. Not sure about his insurance yet but the main roadblock I foresee is "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink" ☹️ more like a mule, but I'm not giving up.

Thanks again

Finally finished the hardest and most necessary part of tarping my roof, just as the sky opened up with driving rain in a thunderstorm. So far no leaks, several hours later. Forecast for the rest of the week is rain, rain, and more rain.

Pretty funny that an old fart in his mid 70s can work alone several days on a roof that's sloped MUCH MUCH more than what was considered "unsafe" for elite protective service personnel in peak physical condition in their 30s.

I went to my local Model Club meeting today.

I gave away 3 kits, and sold one. Two of the kits are old, very rare Airplane kits. The guy  I gave them to, will eventually make Museum Quality builds out of them. He posts his builds on another Well known website. When he gets them done, I'll post a link. He is a much better builder than I am, and one of the kits he had never even seen before. He was very excited to get one. I chose to give them to him, so they would get built, and loved, rather than let them rot away in my garage.

The other kit I gave away was to a fellow club member who wanted it. The meeting was ending, and I had failed to sell the kit. He then asked for it, so I just gave it to him, rather than drag it home. He was happy to get it.

I went to the meeting with my latest project, and 4 Kits, and a Book I had finished reading.

I came home with My project, and nothing else. A very successful meeting!
