papajohn97 Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Here's what pleased me today (actually over the last few days): 1. My best friend Joe generously gifted me a Kyosho Mini-Z Ready to race RC Porsche 962 with controller: OMG this thing is FUN!!!! We raced on a foam race track at the hobby shop where we bought our cars. It was like slot racing without the slots. These things really scream! 2. Ok, I knew it wouldn't take long for me to put the first ding into my beautiful new 1/27 scale Porsche 962 but little did I know it wouldn't be due to my driving. Today I decided to practice some driving on our back patio. Our six year old beagle "Huntley" was hanging out in the yard at the same time and when he saw the RC car take off, he did what any good hunting beagle would do and took off chasing that "rabbit"! Like a good hunting dog, he caught it and managed to put the first small dents into one rear wheel and the body of my new Porsche (although like a good hunting dog he didn't squeeze his jaws hard and totally crush that "bird"!). Now I can really start enjoying my new toy and no longer worry about the first dents! Dents/ defects vent evil spirits, right? Besides, now when I look at those dents, I'll think of two of my very best friends, Joe & Huntley! 3 1

Unfortunately, I'm "only" light rail and if I recorded while operating I'd be fired... but the wild stuff going on, especially operating on the street ( yes, we're the only light rail in the US that has area similar to streetcar, unprotected) would be something else.
stavanzer Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago She is worth watching. Both the Livestream, and the Videos. Some amazing Snow videos.

iamsuperdan Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Took the truck to Penticton, BC for a few days. Did some business, then met up with a friend and did a few trails. They hang glide from this spot. Then we ventured up to the caves of the old gold mines in the area. Took it offroad, then came into town, loaded 5 people into into and went to the Serendipity Winery for a fancy dinner. 9

Dents/ defects vent evil spirits, right? Yeah, it was always easier to push the guys to hammer the real race cars after they were "blooded", so to speak. I'm going to have to remember that about the evil spirits too. Could be why my beaters all seem to be pretty much indestructible, but every time I make something pretty, it becomes a prima donna. 2
89AKurt Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago What pleased me the other night (I've been AWOL) was catching a sunset. What pleased me today was driving the road my account name is based on, 89A through Jerome and then Sedona and Oak Creek (too much traffic along the river). I met up with the Datsun 240Z driver, we switched around, he sent some pictures of me. Timing, I had clear road, he got stuck behind a pickup, so I slowed down for these pictures. When I saw him in the mirror, the rest is history. So that is what going north (more like NE) on 89A is like. When I joined my first forum about 20 years ago, I thought: instead of being on the 'puter, would I rather be driving 89A in the MINI?' What pleased me today is that I didn't need a tow truck. 🙏 3

I forget how many years back it was (late 1990s?) when I took that road on the longer way to my favorite Colorado summer vacation area. My condolences to you today . . . they added a roundabout to it. One of those showed up somewhat recently on the more direct route to Colorado, west of Ganado, on the way toward Chinle. Predictably, there are looong skid marks / scrape marks straight up & over that one.

Was my step father-in-law's favorite place on the planet, and possibly one of the reasons he is dead. (big guy, two-three hamburgers was a reasonable lunch) Haven't been there since 2013, maybe high time to visit the area again.
Falcon Ranchero Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Finally got my next eBay package yesterday; came Thursday but I was away so it was safe at my grandma's till I got back. It's the most important "piece de resistance" for my circa '71 Skyline bicycle, a period correct, Shimano 333 3 speed hub. Some of you may or may not remember I mentioned about my bike project, picked it up at the dump in fall 2022, and began an extensive restoration the following year. Long story short, the 3 speed hub it came with originally was no good, niether was the rim it was on. So I needed to find a correct hub, and I found literally the only one in Canada for sale, and it just happened to be in working order, having the same patent number as the original one, and the same spoke hole number, 28. Bonus with shifter linkage attached, though I still have the original one also. I have already the original shifter and NOS shifter cable, so all I was missing was the hub. BUT here's the catch. Obviously the hub has to mount on another 20 inch rim. And that requires taking all the spokes out and "truing" the wheel as it's known in bike lingo. Definitely not skilled enough for that since it has to be done with the most extreme precision imaginable. But my dad's going to call around and see if someone will do that. Regardless though, this had no choice but to be the way to go since as I mentioned, the original hub/rim combo is shot and the odds of finding a working shimano 333 speed hub already mounted to a nice 20-inch rim are extremely slim. But the project is slowly still coming to an end, all it needs now, in addition to the hub, are motors and bulbs for the lights, a chrome neck, and I'd like to find real chrome fenders since the ones on it were sprayed chrome; they were red, but they were the only ones we found at the time. Also redline tires. This year I just re-did the original white pedals and sources some '60s white Schwinn grips and some chrome brake handles. 3

JollySipper Posted 43 minutes ago Posted 43 minutes ago Nathan, your bike looks really good, man......... I like that you're using NOS and period parts on it. 1
JollySipper Posted 40 minutes ago Posted 40 minutes ago Gave the hamster's habitat a thorough cleaning last night....... It upsets him a little when I do, it's like cleaning a teenagers' room! and He had it all feng shui......... A clean hammy is a healthy hammy is a happy hammy.
johnyrotten Posted 22 minutes ago Posted 22 minutes ago Nathan, if you zip tie or tape the sets of crossed spokes, and number the rim, you can transfer everything over to the other hub. I do that with motorcycle rims, and used to with bikes. As for truing the wheel a simple stand with two v shaped notches for the axle to ride on and a pointer (piece of wire) on each side as a guide Is all you need. The spokes pull the rim, left side bend, tighten the right a little. Hardest part is centering the hub in the wheel. Lots of back and forth, left and right till you get the Hang of it, if your up for trying it.
