Ok, since I post a lot on the "irked" thread, in fairness I have to also report the good stuff.

I had a leak where the plumbing vent stack comes out of the roof. The attic in my house is unfinished... the "floor" of the attic is actually the drywall ceilings of the rooms below. The "boot" around the vent stack was leaking, and the water was dripping down onto the attic "floor," which is actually the ceiling (of the master bedroom, in this case).

So I called a local roofer (I like to deal with local businesses whenever possible)... initially he said sorry, he was so swamped with work that he couldn't take on my job. I thanked him and tried several other contractors.

But later that day, he called back and told me that he would squeeze me in if I was home that day (I was). He came, he inspected the roof, and he sealed the joint where the vent stack comes out of the roof. But not only that... he also inspected and re-sealed the vent stack on the back side of the house (the kitchen vent), and he inspected and resealed the chimney seal. All of this on his own time, not asked for by me.

And in the end, he charged me exactly what he quoted me just to check the first vent stack. And BTW... his price was extremely fair. I would even say cheap. And he did the second vent stack and the chimney seal for free.

Yes, there still are honest, good people out there. And I was lucky to find one.

Well after a long year of rebuilding my house after a fire and dealing with the insurance company, myself and my wife spent the first night in our rebuilt house.  I may have lost everything in the fire, but it was so great to be back home.  Starting over is hard, but I am very thankful that my wife of 31 years was by my side.  Now to get myself a building area set up and get back to it!

It was a Great day!!!:D

Absolutely. I told him if I ever have any further roof problems, he will be the first guy I call.

plus, if you have future problems or need a new roof, he is now in your mind. in this industry, your work IS your reputation, get a few leaks, see what are the chances you'll be getting called back....

He is definitely on my list of good guys. He was a pleasure to deal with. Professional, courteous, friendly... the kind of guy you'd want to have a beer with. B)

What pleased me today?   There is an end in sight!   NNL East is next Saturday and we are nearly done...

garage1

This is one side of my two car garage.  Fortunately I was able to fill my trusty Caravan up into the high top and bring it to our meeting on Saturday. I did get to fill it as it was snowing on me, but once at the meeting, our members all took what they could into their vehicles.  Today I filled up same Caravan with load two.  I had to pretty much take everything in the garage... like the patio furniture, grill, lawn mower... all out for the summer so that I could get at the NNL East stuff behind it all!   Tomorrow UPS says I have another dozen packages coming... I hope that's it!

goody bags

Yesterday was Goody Bag day at the club, not to be confused with postcard mailing day and license plate assembly day!  The troops answered the call. Our meeting had more in attendance than our usual ones!  Many hands made light work and we had 1200 bags together and in boxes in about 3 hours. The pizza and chicken came right as we were finishing up.  All in all a great team effort!

There is still plenty to do, should keep me busy all week. And of course during the entire ramp up period I've been super busy at work. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Next Sunday I will sleep until noon!

I did that about six years ago, and things didn't pan out after the wedding a few years later. So be sure to have money for a lawyer as well as for the wedding bash.

Don't feel bad Harry, these were just the little cherry tomatoes, the big boys are only the size of tennis balls so far, the squash, zucchini and bell peppers are blooming too.

there's plenty of room down here in north Florida.

My"happy moment"this past few days was finally finding some dimensions so I start scratch building a wooden "coupe cab"for my long running mid 1920's Mack AC flat bed truck project.I'd been looking for something other than an odd angled old photo for over a year so yes I am a happy hacker.
