It's been reported in Hot Rod magazine that, indeed, it hit a tree & the thief who stole the car survived...

I see an air cleaner for a single 4 barrel wedge motor,,IMO I doubt 150mph is /was possibile .I could maybe see the tires getting to 150, but how long would they survive at that speed ????

IMO,,,,,, No way that car hit one single tree and damaged that car in the way shown.

Something tells me there is more to this story than whats written.

This happened back in 2012 and you guys are barely finding out about it?

I wondered the same thing. This supposedly happened two years ago... why is it making the rounds on the internet now? It's on a bunch of blogs, forums, on facebook, etc.

and some of the guys here are still living in the last century! They'll be posting this here in like 12 years!

But it's not only here. It's on facebook, it's all over the internet, with current comments... as if it was a new story. Andy posted this story here after he saw it on a Hot Rod blog page, and that blog was written July 29, 2014... just one week ago! But the accident took place two years ago. Weird.

Something fishy going on here...

I've also seen it on a number of car apps... CarBuzz to name 1 & as Harry said, Facebook... Mopar Muscle's & Mopar Action's page... Weird? ? I'm thinking maybe it's only come to light now because of the laws/restrictions surrounding the case? Maybe the court/police wouldn't allow the story to be published? It does seem odd that it's been 2yrs since this actually took place... Especially in this day & age of mobile ph cameras etc... I mean Paul Walker's death was virtually filmed within secs of it becoming a fireball...

More pics from the salvage yard. Click here.

Take a look at the 3rd to the last picture in this set of "after" pics. Check out how far the rim of the steering wheel is pushed down over the steering column! There's also some significant "fluid leakage" evident. Gives a pretty good glimpse at the condition the guy must have been in when they pried him out of this thing. It also makes sense about him plowing through a wall at some point. Lots of chunks of cinder block in the engine compartment.

I once saw the aftermath of a '64 Tempest going over two traffic islands- one rather big and triangular, one a somewhat narrow median strip- then over a curb, across a sidewalk and just about head-on into a brick planter, about 4' deep and tall, that ran the length of a bowling alley fronting on Deer Park Avenue in North Babylon, NY. The car was moving at a good clip, heading westbound, out of the street on which we lived which intersects with DPA. I don't know if the driver wanted to go left (south) or right (north), but the car continued west, toward the structure. Engine noise, banging, metallic banging, then a crash. Lots of dust in the air and hubcaps rolling as we ran outside to see what happened. Considering the damage done to the brick planter, the car wasn't too bad- and both occupants were WALKING AWAY from the car. Seriously. I saw them. My Dad stopped them and the police were called. Were they drunk? Perhaps. That condition can put you in a more relaxed state, which can better your chance of survival because you are not all tensed-up at the time of impact.

Whew!! Had me worried that I missed something historical.

Nah. It was a big snoozefest. If you looked closely you could even see the wires. I can't believe they thought they were fooling anyone... :P

1972keyportcrash-vi.jpg

Back when I was a kid, there was lore about a fatal accident that happened right before I moved into town. There were a bunch of stories that circulated, and of course the stories got taller as time went on. It was a 1969 Road Runner that looked worse than the subject of this thread. There was a story about a girl who got out of the car in my neighborhood, saying they were driving crazy, right before the accident. It couldn't have been true since I now know the car was headed the opposite direction.

Finally about a year ago I was on a Facebook group about growing up in my town. I asked if anyone remembered a 1972 fatal accident and within minutes someone shared the above news clipping. Seeing it for the first time discredited a lot of the stories I had heard over time. And it's amazing the power of the Internet to produce something instantly that you wondered about most of your life!
