Finally finished this, better late than never, made for a mate to give to a mate.

Not an exact replica but close enough, I made a quick base for it since the guy getting it (Bill) doesn't build models and my experience with non modellers is they usually break them picking them up so he can grab this by the base to move it. ;)

Started as the ZZ Top coupe, different wheels and brakes, RHD conversion, aluminium ram tubes. Edelbrock covers with leads sticking out of them because the real car has a LS style motor.

Tail lights got painted red after pics.

Beautiful coupe !

Great color and paint job . I'm sure your friend will love it !

Cool looking base you made too . What did you use for the grass and where can I get some ?

Oh my! The two things that really caught my eye were the paint and how the wheels look perfect in the fenders. They fill up the openings just about perfectly, not too big, not too small. Really nice build Rob.

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement guys, glad you like it, I think Bill will too. ;)

To answer the questions,

the paint is Holts Duplicolour Red Mica with Repco(Aussie car parts retailer)clear over it. According to the bloke at Repco their paint is made by Holts and just put in different cans.

The grass is static grass, railroad guys and wargammers use it a fair bit. You can buy it online and even make your own applicator out of a electric fly swatter. It's easy to do and the results look great. Here's a video of how it works, I use longer grass than her and a bigger zapper. (Mines got some boot!)

I would nerer have known this started as the ZZ Top '34. It looks much better. I love the look with these wheels and like everyone else says the paint color is perfect. The base was a clever idea, your mate should love it.

This is really neat!!! The way you have it set up it looks like the hood is about twelve feet long!!! Very cool!!!
