62rebel Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 i've got nothing from my 1978 building days except tools and some deep thumb scars. that is a moment in time, IMHO, and you're right in not molesting it.
ChrisBcritter Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I just hope I can make one of my '58s look that good. One question: Why did you use a '59 Ford chassis instead of a '57? Was it just handy?
John Goschke Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 Thanks for the comments, guys! Much appreciated. I just hope I can make one of my '58s look that good. One question: Why did you use a '59 Ford chassis instead of a '57? Was it just handy? Thanks, Chris. Well, the '59 was handy at the time and because it installs like the original '58 chassis, with four screws, it's an easy swap for a curbside model. The screws holes and posts line up well and the wheelbase is very nearly the same, with only a little adjustment needed. The '59 Ford chassis also works well under the original '58 Edsel annual hardtop and convertible annual kits. A friend of mine used the AMT '57 Ford chassis under his '58 and it also worked well.
om617 Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Beautiful model. So much better looking then the 57 (Sorry to all the fans of the 57) lol
mangodart Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Really nice, AMT must give us those old kit again, gorgeous build !!!
carrucha Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Nice build. Definitely leave it as is as a memento of that time.
geetee66 Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I agree.. It still looks excellent. Don't knock it. Keep it as it is.
Lovefordgalaxie Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Super great build of a super great car.
Sixties Sam Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Great save of a rare kit! I wish someone would market a new tool 58 with the quality level of Revell's new 57 sedan! Sam
mrknowetall Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Sill lookin' good! I have a couple of built-ups in my stash. Gotta get to them one day.
oldnslow Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Beautiful, do you remember how you did the scripts on the rear quarters ? I have a 59 Galaxie I want to redo.
Bob Ellis Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 This is really a beautiful model. This built kit is a gem because it will never warp like the acetate promo version. Some people like the car without skirts, but these really look good.
impcon Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 This is such a pretty build of a car that has been so overlooked and today, there are so few left. Your car looks SO stock, natural and good in those colors! I think that you made the right choice to leave it as it is. I really do love those late 50's Fords.
John Goschke Posted September 4, 2014 Author Posted September 4, 2014 Thanks for the comments, guys! Beautiful, do you remember how you did the scripts on the rear quarters ? I have a 59 Galaxie I want to redo. Thanks, Robert. The script and other emblems were added later using a set of photoetched pieces for the '57-'58 Ford sold by Mark "The Putty Thrower" Gustavson. They were advertised in an early issue (1979 or '80?) of Model Car Journal or Scale Auto Enthusiast. I think Model Car Garage has a set for '57 Fords but your '59 Galaxie would use different parts. I don't know if they have a set for the '59 Fords.
cruz Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Awesome, I always enjoy your builds my friend!!!
