So aaaaaaanyway, I was thinking of starting with red and going from there. What do YOU think? One more coat oughta do it.

I'm busy tomorrow, so I'll get the Dart body masked and shot with silver this weekend.

I can smell the finish line. No, wait. SEE the finish line.

Hi Vince, :) . Thanx for saying so. More to come soon.

Hola Sen'or Teresi. I'm feelin' it too man. Can't remember when a build has come together this well. I must be learning something from somebody, right?

Thanx Bob. Silver is coming this weekend. In the meantime, I have a little treat.

Made loads of detail progress yesterday, so here goes.

The 1:1 has a pair of supports under the hood, so I got those scratched out and ready for paint.

I shot Spaz-Stix Ultimate Mirror Chrome on bits and bumpers. I hit the winch frame and cable rollers, not to mention the aforementioned bumpers.

Got side mirrors ready to install along with the hauler bed spotlights.

I noticed a gap between the interior and the side windows that needed addressing. I thought armrests would be nice. I dove into my inventory of ice cream sticks and found a couple with decent grain. After shaping them, I soaked them in Mr. Detailer Brown Wash a couple of times, then clear coat. One more coat oughta do it.

Enjoy the pics. Ooooooooo, Ahhhhhhhh, Wooooooowww, Preeeeety !!!!!!!

Joe, that is just "mindless" in its creation. I love it. You and John Teresi have very creative minds to say the least. Cheers, Tim

Just got home from seeing "Home" and what do I find? Two of The Best of the Best paid a visit.

Thank you Ira. Love the shades man. Raider Vette Rocks !!!!!!!

Same to you Tim. You are spot on about John's creativity. Now if I can find a way to clone his Minions, I'll be all set. Sometimes this hobby makes me lose my mind, so, yeah. I think it's under the desk with a part that took 2 hours to make, only to disappear from the face of the planet. Possibly spirited away by Gypsy's.

WalMart is getting on my last nerve. Stopped in to pick up canned air, had to buy a package of three. Wanted 6 sponge brushes; had to get a pack of 25. Wanted a small piece of glass to cut tape strips, had to get a picture frame with glass in it. Needed some 1/4" or 1/2" thick foam rubber sheets. (Johnn, you know why.) Had to get four 1 inch thick slabs. Looked for small magnets for the parachute packs; 1 closed, one open. Ended up with magnetic sheets. Finally, wanted a small bottle of Metal Foil Adhesive. Ended up with an 11 ounce can.

Raise your hand if you know why my hair won't grow back.

I just spent an hour going thru your entire thread and it's a great looking build !

I've never really built any type of Funny Car since I was a kid in the 60's so I'm trying to learn everything I can about building one .

Yours is a great example ! :)

Darryl, glad to see you're having a good time. Getting close to the time for me to attempt one of your parachutes on this All American Bad Boy.

Thanx as always Gene. Would you believe I still have room for more notches? Wait until you see the winch assembled.

John, when you're right, you're right. It is nummy :D

Bob, thank you for taking all that time. I know you had to make at least 2 coffee runs to get through all of my rambling. After seeing your start on the Mr. Unswitchable car, I would say your skills from the 60's have stuck with you. Anybody that can drill that many holes and live to tell the tale is okay in my book.

Today's agenda includes the previously mentioned winch assembly, mask and shoot the Dart body and if I'm feeling REALLY ambitious I just might assemble the side mirrors and the spotlights. Ooooooooooo.........

There may also be a surprise at the end of the day too. Stay tooned y'all. ;)

SURPRISE !!!!!!!! ( Insert screaming goat here.) I made a body cradle and got 80% of the masking done.

I'm proud to say the cradle is 100% Eyeball Engineering. The only time I used a ruler was to be sure the corners were true. (DISCLAIMER: No measurements were injured during the construction of the cradle.)

I found some casters that will work. They are a little small, but I don't have time to run to Hobbytown for aftermarket airplane tires. The casters are from Chi-Town Hustler wheelie bars.

As far as the masking went, I am using Tamiya tape for the first time, instead of blue tape. Cross your fingers but I love the way it laid down.

So here ya go, Eyeball Kandy. Enjoy

John my friend, your wish for my good luck was granted.

Weekend goal accomplished !!!! I finally got the Tamiya TS-76 Mica Silver shot today. I have to give a shout out to my recent discovery of a product others have used for a while. Tamiya tapes perform EXACTLY as I needed it to. It laid down and STAYED down, it handled smooth corners and left sharp clean separation lines that will only require minor touch-up. It also gives me the confidence I need doing the same thing to the hauler. That is priceless. Now if I can have the same success with the pin striping and the decals, I'll be groovy man.

Tomorrow will find me masking the hauler, buffing out the body and working on more detailing fiddly bits. The only issue I still need to concern myself with is matching the lines on the roof of the Deora with the hauler bed. Should be a "No-Brainer" which makes me the perfect candidate.

Desert Scale Classic, here I come.

Congrats Joe on a sharp looking paint job. Pulling the tape up is kind of like Forrest Gump and his box of chocolates..."you never know what you're gonna get". I can just imagine the smile on your face when you saw how it turned out. Again, great job. Tim

Thank you Bob and John for your continued words of encouragement and support.

Tim, I often talk to myself when i'm working. As I started to pick up the body to remove the tape, my exact words to myself were, "Let's pull the lid off this box of chocolates." Un-FREEKING-believable!!!!!!!! There was a smile as I pulled it, and then the sudden realization that once I lay down that "Brushed Gold" pinstripe, it's gonna' POP !! BTW, thank you for your continued words of encouragement and support.

I'm doing a Hobbytown run this morning to wipe out their stock on Tamiya tape and a new polishing kit. If anybody needs me to pick up anything for you, speak now or forever hold your.........

I don't think something bad was destined for this build, however, my inexperience coupled with a lack of patience has resulted in a (hopefully) minor paint problem. There is either residue from the tape or I have marred the surface of the paint from it not being completely dry.

Question is, how do I tackle this? Will a cleaner be sufficient? If so, which one? If the surface of the paint is "imprinted" with the tape pattern, will polishing fix it?

There are 3 coats of red and 2 coats of silver. The red was shot yesterday morning and the silver at noon today, so it had 12 hours before tape.. You can see a tape line in the hauler air dam and mottling / stippling on the side.

Any advice is welcome.

.....and now a new problem has reared it's ugly head. I started pinstriping the body using Chartpak 1/64 Gold. News flash. It's not tape, it's foil and it refuses to turn a corner or even hug a curve without buckling. It also has minimal adhesive.

Unfortunately there's no time to get some Line O Tape so, I'm making my own.

I've painted several strips of Tamiya masking tape gold. When that's dry, I'll cut my own striping.

One more setback and this will be on the "In Progress" table.

Looking good. Sorry to hear about the setbacks. Quite frankly I wouldn't rush what is left. You will end up with a model you're not 100 percent satisfied with. You've got a lot of work in this project don't rush the final assembly. I've been down this road to many times in the past.
