SMBC Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Had a lot of fun with this one. I saw the car in a drag magazine and wanted to do it. The paint was tricky but the rest went together good with some scratch building and part box stuff.
Flatout Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 (edited) Dang Chris...another great looking model! These old kits sure can be a lot of fun, I gotta' hurry up and crack the plastic on the AWB mustang I bought the other day. Who did the decals on this one? Aloha...Pete Edited November 20, 2014 by Flatout
Daddyfink Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 It looks great and you nailed the paint! I had lots of fun doing mine!
booboo60 Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Chris, where did ya get the decals! Super looking gasser! I have 2 twister nova kits, need a second idea on one?
RAT-T Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 LOOKS GREAT CHRIS, I SEE STEVE AT A COUPLE LOCAL MODEL SHOWS, VERY NICE GUY
vintagedragcrazy Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 very nice build chris one of my favorite kits i never saw the decals either for this car but they sure are nice. vince
afx Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Very nice. Don't know much about drag cars. I assume the fuel tank is offset to allow some cooling to the engine. But shouldn't it be on the passenger side for better weight distribution?
Snake45 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Very nice. Don't know much about drag cars. I assume the fuel tank is offset to allow some cooling to the engine. But shouldn't it be on the passenger side for better weight distribution? I believe the real one is a street car created about a decade ago by either Hot Rod or Car Craft magazine to have the look of an early funny. The Moon tank isn't for gas, it's a radiator overflow tank IIRC. Darn nice model, BTW. I wish I'd built it--my highest compliment.
SMBC Posted November 21, 2014 Author Posted November 21, 2014 Thanks im not sure about the placment of the tank to be honest.
AZ Boy Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Great job, Chris! That motor looks fantastic.
Krazy Rick Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Looks great Chris, the paint turned out nice - clean build
RancheroSteve Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 (edited) Yes, Hot Rod Magazine did this in 1997 (wow, that long ago already!) - I've got the magazine on my shelf somewhere. I believe "Wilshire" refers to Wilshire Blvd, where the HRM offices were located. The car was for sale last year: http://stevemags.com/steves-wilshire-shaker-for-sale/ Very nice build, by the way! nitro norman Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Great model. I really like the paint combination. I think the tank was put on the driver's side to put more weight on that side. Often times drag cars pull that wheel off the ground because of engine torque.
Mackvision Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Beautiful car and build, but where did the decals come from?.....................................................Mark
Daddyfink Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 These decals where made by Skip Samples after we ran across the car at the Hot Rod Reunion a few years back. I am surprised no one has offered them for sale somewhere. 1
