tbill Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 will be waiting patiently for your return I happened to hit hobby lobby the other day, they finally had one of these foose kits in stock, so after a 40% coupon, I added another one to the pile
jaftygas Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 Some how this ended up on big boyz, which is where it belonged anyway. So thanks to whoever moved it. I'll be back in a couple of weeks with some door jamb I molded on updates later.
blunc Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 regarding the door hinges... I think since they will be so visible on a build this large it might be best to fab them like the real hinges but make them out of brass or aluminum shim stock. the tricky part will be maintaining top and bottom hinge alignment. trunk hinges will need to be considered also, you could even make them torsion sprung, the 1:1 assembly is fairly simple.

Thanks Mike. That's just what I have done. I used aluminum stock and it failed bad, so I will take more time and try again. The trunk is easy.
stump Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Another follower here Joe. (not sure how I missed the start, sorry.) Love what you have done so far and am awaiting the next installment. At your convenience of course.

jaftygas Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 Well now that the move is over and I get Monday's off I can put some more time into the COPO. Here's the mold I made for the door jambs.
jaftygas Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 Hers my new work bench don't laugh it's still coming together. till later. I hope to get 3 to 4 hours a week on it.
jaftygas Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 Thanks Joe. Now if I can just figure out these hinges. I just don't think I can do oem style, there just to hard and delicate to produce.
tbill Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 glad to see ya back at the bench on this, looking forward to updates.
mustang1989 Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Thanks Joe. Now if I can just figure out these hinges. I just don't think I can do oem style, there just to hard and delicate to produce. You've got it all in the bag Joe!! Lookin forward to the outcome.
Jordan White Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Thanks Joe. Now if I can just figure out these hinges. I just don't think I can do oem style, there just to hard and delicate to produce. Would you be able to make them out of brass? Should be sturdier than styrene.
jaftygas Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 Yes brass is stouter. However, styrene glues much better, and I'm not the best with brass.
blunc Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 evergreen may have "channel" (kinda like half an I-beam) in their special shapes that you could use to make you hinges.
jaftygas Posted April 19, 2015 Author Posted April 19, 2015 Thanks Mike. I cut 4 (.250) inch blocks and epoxied them .500 apart on each door and drilled straight through, and will use .080 thick wire for the hinges.
