Just started this kit today so nothing to show except box. I am doing it as a salt flat racer. I removed things like the door handles and windshield frame as the kit comes with a racing type windshield. I am using different tires an putting the nice whitewalls in the parts box. Thinking silver as a possible color. Kit has all the underside molded as one piece so I am not even putting an engine in it.

hi ray, nice to think you are building this, and as a salt flats car. this kit has been overshadowed by the revell 62 vette, but i still love this old gal the best....AMT always.... anyhow, look forward to seeing this car of yours built for all to enjoy...great choice and a neat project...best, the ace..... ^_^

Thanks guys. Funny thing, I have been hit with the salt thing for some reason. I have the Studebaker kit in the pipeline for the salt version too.

Me too. The not-so-hot front end scaling and proportions on this kit just scream for some streamlining to hide the flaws. Ought to look great as a lakes car. That one-piece blobular chassis could benefit from a full bellypan to hide it too. :)

I wouldn't be to worried about the undercarriage on the AMT kit. Most of these "streamliners" had full belly pans anyway. If you haven't already, think about "bubble" type covers for the headlamps. I remember even seeing a few Corvettes where they covered the two openings on either side of the grill so that they could better control the air flow. If you haven't found tires that you like yet you might try some narrow tires from the Chevy or Ford pickup models. Just sand the tread smooth and round the shoulders.

Got some more done on this build today. Looks like it won't end up being a typical salt flat car but rather just in the style of one. Made a push bar and drilled a hole for same. Drilled holes for the exit of pipes coming through the front fenders, they will be trimmed down in size. The interior has Slixx seat belt decals and the dash has been modified a bit. Sanded off some detail and added some after market gauges and a shifter from the parts box. Molded in a hood scoop from the parts box. Still more sanding and putting to do but it's well on the way. Got the tires for the parts box and are really too wide for a true salt flat racer but that's all I had on hand and did not want waste the nice white walls that come in the kit by running them backwards.

So......... you guys ever have one of those builds that you start out gung ho on and then things don't go right and you just want to finish it ? Well that is me with this one. Started when I somehow "lost" the 4 full moon discs I had for the wheels. I just can't find where I put them. Anyway to the parts box I go. No more of them. Found the wheel covers that you see here. I hate them ! I have ordered a set of Parts by Parks discs for the next project which will be a Studebaker. I will order another set for that one and replace these stupid looking things when the first set arrives. Just going to push forward and get this one done. Looks like another one for the closet ! : )

Ray, I have a set of those smooth plated discs if you need them. Should pm me buddy. Your build is looking great and not a closet build. We all misplace thing and they go missing makes ya think its supernatural. I am still looking for 2 radiator hoses on my bench....
