Chuck Kourouklis Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 (edited) I sure jumped mine, before they even had the highlight. Edited February 13, 2015 by Chuck Kourouklis
martinfan5 Posted February 13, 2015 Author Posted February 13, 2015 Preorders must be going well. Today I see an HLJ ad on this site featuring a Gullwing photo. They do that for a lot of new tooled kits.
Matt T. Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Wow. This looks to be a beautiful kit. Sign me up.
Notoriousek Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Yep got mine on preorder as well from hlj. Not sure if it's been said but always opt for shipping with tracking. I placed 2 orders on there 2 weeks ago. One with tracking and one without...shipment with tracking arrived in just a few days after I ordered, yet the one without tracking I am still waiting on. They both shipped the same day so not sure what that's about, but I regret not spending the extra $5-10 for tracking now hopefully it shows up soon as I have heard that customer service isn't the greatest

Supposedly, they won't be out until March. Check it out and give us a report.
Notoriousek Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Haha no I didn't get the mercedes, I just meant I preordered it along with purchasing some other kits. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I was just letting anyone know, if they haven't ordered from hlj before to opt for tracking service.
jbwelda Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I think that shipping delay is something that happens with or without tracking, especially if you are using their cheapest shipping method. I personally think its a waste of 5 or 10$, the tracking I mean. jb

I have always had great customer service with HLJ. Edited February 17, 2015 by martinfan5

FedEx or EMS, which ever one is cheaper , the one thing I like about FedEx is being able to pre sign for the package so the driver will leave it .
jbwelda Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 sometimes (many times, seems to me) shipping the absolutely cheapest way will get the package to you just as fast as many of the more expensive options. its the luck of the draw as ultimately they throw all the packages on an airplane, its just whether that airplane might make a zillion stops before it gets to your package and sometimes it goes direct to you in an incredibly short time. I have had packages take 2 days or 2 weeks from hlj (and many other places) when I am using the same (cheapest) shipping method. I recently had a package I sent to England take two MONTHS to show up, and another I sent at exactly the same day from the same place at the same time arrived in about 5 days. you just never know...maybe to some its worth the extra $ to actually know. jb
martinfan5 Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 (edited) Then you got lucky, using the "cheapest" shipping option is SAL, which is Surface Air Logistics , which means it goes by Air leaving its origin, and then again by Surface from the point of entry , and with everything, it has to come through Customs, then its trucked to the destination, not calling BS, but I have never had a SAL package from Japan get to me in less than two weeks. And the other thing with SAL is your package gets on the plane if there is room, if not, it has to wait for the next plane. You know, there is one other reason why tracking is good, if they lose your SAL package, guess what, you are SOL, but I also dont ship one or two kits at time, so I cant use SAL, I have to either use EMS or FedEX, and yes. niteowl7710 Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 SAL is very similar to what anyone here in the U.S. who either served in the Military (or worked for the Government in a foreign country and had an APO/FPO address) or had family who did the same know as SAM - Space Available Mail. SAL/SAM has 0 priority and are never going to be delivered door to door Internationally in 2 days. There's a reason the SAM cutoff for mailing stuff overseas for Christmas is BEFORE Thanksgiving. There is such a thing as Tracked SAL, but you're just gonna watch your box sit around the Airport in Tokyo a lot.
fiatboy Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I wonder how the Monogram 300SLR tube chassis compares with this new one?
sjordan2 Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I wonder how the Monogram 300SLR tube chassis compares with this new one? There are substantial differences between the real cars, and both kits look to have somewhat simplified space frames, though nicely done.
fiatboy Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I built the Monogram 300SLR, and it looks like it has finer tubing than this great new kit. ( For what it is worth.)

Yeah seriously I won't use sal again. They give you a "tracking" number which is great if you want to see where in japan your package was. I ordered from hlj one FedEx and one sal. FedEx came by end of week, sal I've been waiting over a month now. Really sucks not knowing when or if it will ever come. Have another kit I ordered in January from a seller on amazon, based in japan, and that's expected to be here within 3 weeks. Not very quick, 2 1/2 months for delivery is never fun. And then if it doesn't show up you have to deal with that. Basically just spend a few bucks more for tracking lol Not worth the headache
jbwelda Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 in my experience "if it doesn't show up" pretty much never happens. just got a package from HLJ yesterday, sent SAL screw tracking numbers, I don't sit on my thumbs awaiting packages, got it in about 8 calendar days. OCD keeps the express mail flowing jb
sjordan2 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 (edited) What are you showing here? What brand of kit? Is this the new Tamiya? What are you showing here? What brand of kit? Is this the new Tamiya? A caption would be nice. Edited February 27, 2015 by sjordan2
Rob Hall Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 What are you showing here? What brand of kit? Is this the new Tamiya? A caption would be nice. That is evident from the thread title, isn't it?
martinfan5 Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 (edited) What are you showing here? What brand of kit? Is this the new Tamiya? A caption would be nice. Well, since this is the Tamiya kit thread, I would say that its the soon to be released Tamiya kit, as for the photo, It looks like I am showing you the body, frame, interior piece, my guess, pre production , and the person that I got the photos from is doing a pre production test build. Atmobil Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 I think I want to build one as a rolling chassis without the body on. Maybe put the body on stands next to the chassis.
