martinfan5 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Belkits announced new tooled kit for 2015, and it is the Ford Escort Rs 1600 Mk1 , release date is listed as late 2015
Mr Stock Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Now that peice of news has just made my year !, Finally we get to see a MK1 Escort in 1/24 kit form, and with the quality of these Bel-kits it should be a knockout. Now if they only started doing road going versions as well as rally kits......
afx Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) AWESOME!! Of course I just bought the Passion for Racers MkI trans-kit. None the less I can't wait! Do you have any pictures of the parts trees? Edited January 28, 2015 by afx
om617 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Some 3D pictures here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Belkitsbe-Belkitscom/161068673940799?sk=photos_stream
LVZ2881 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Put me down for one!!! 2 questions: Is the Belkits Cruze touring car out yet, and where can I.buy these? HLJ?
niteowl7710 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Put me down for one!!! 2 questions: Is the Belkits Cruze touring car out yet, and where can I.buy these? HLJ? The Chevrolet Cruze is BeeMax, it is as far as I know done, but is still tied up in some sort of licensing wrangling with GM. Belkits is a completely different company. This Escort isn't even out of 3D files yet, it'll probably be in the Fall before it comes out at the earliest.
martinfan5 Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 Belkits said late 2015 for the release date.
dublin boy Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Finally a Mk 1 Escort, but.... Belkits existing rally cars retail for almost 60 US Dollars this side of the Pond, judging by the above 3D drawing it's very detailed, but there's no opening bonnet/hood and no engine which is ridiculous for that kind of money. The Esci/Revell Mk2 BDA engine is wrong, the Tamiya Europa twin cam might work, but the gearbox is wrong and both are very difficult to get anyway. To say I'm dissapointed is an understatement.

There's a pond between Belgium and Ireland? I thought it to be more of a Straight, or perhaps a Narrows... I think this is a case of darned if you do, darned if you don't. SInce there's the massive skid plate under the engine, all of the bottom side detailing is moot. So then if they were to put only a top half of an engine in, there would be the indignant outrage that follows every Tamiya/Aoshima/Fujimi release that has an engine insert rather than a full engine. Curbside probably takes a good third out of the tooling costs too. $60 is pricey for a kit sure, but how much is this costing to make, and then how many of them are they REALLY gonna make and be able to sell - in the real market, not the imaginary "I'll buy a CASE!!!" one - and then do the math. If Belkits doesn't do it? Who will? Any MAJOR player (eg Revell AG) will have to tool it to make a number of variations thereby causing compromises to be made in that respect, although a Rally car might finally give them a kit with correct ride height out of the box. I don't have a dog in the fight, as this is an interesting subject, but not something I'm doing a dance about. But if we want small independent companies to succeed someone has to pay the freight for the releases. Edited January 28, 2015 by niteowl7710

This sums it perfectly , and agreed Its a shame that people will discount a very nice kit just for the fact that it has no engine.
dublin boy Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) James, you know well what Pond I'm talking about I could of just said they cost €50 here in Dublin, and I really would expect full detail for that. Please don't get me wrong,I'm just dissapointed, that's all. The existing kits are very nice, even if I'm not interested in modern rally cars. I am happy it's coming out and will certainly buy one, and will probably do it as one of Alan Mann's gorgeous gold and red circuit cars. Edited January 28, 2015 by dublin boy
om617 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 What price would we have to pay for a crude resin curbside of the MK1? I`m no expert but i bet over 100$. If enough people come together i`m pretty sure one of the scratch build wizards on this site would consider trying to replicate a decent BDA and cast it.
afx Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) I just bought the Passion for Racers MkI trans-kit. I think I paid $75. Very nice kit by the way. Edited January 29, 2015 by afx
Austin T Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Aside from the obvious Paul Walker tribute I could think of some interesting uses for this kit. Somewhere I've got a set of "Scale Auto" sponsorship decals, some red and white paint and I should have a decent faux rally car.
jbwelda Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 i still have some "Model Cars" sponsor decals so maybe we can build competing cars, Austin! jb
Luc Janssens Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 (edited) Great news! Hope this opens the door, to do more more vintage racing kits, like... late '70 early 80s Opel Manta & Ascona 400 late '70s Opel Kadett GT/E ;^) Edited January 29, 2015 by Luc Janssens
Junkman Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 What price would we have to pay for a crude resin curbside of the MK1? We'd have to pay 49 Euros just for this: http://www.scaleproduction.de/product_info.php?language=en&info=p1668_Passion-for-Racers-Ford-Escort-MK1.html&= I rather buy the plastic kit tbh.
Atmobil Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Finally a kit from Belkits that have me interested aswell, I'm in for one of these. Will have to start lookinf for decal option now then, lots of possiblities. Maybe one should build one of these: Does anyone recognise the chap in the photo?
Roncla Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Does anyone recognise the chap in the photo? Tony Mason ?
Atmobil Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Yes, Tony Mason former codriver with Roger Clark and tvpresenter in old Top Gear and also brother with Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason.
Junkman Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I bet there will be oodles of aftermarket decals. Building Roger Clark's '72 RAC winner certainly appeals to me.
om617 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I just bought the Passion for Racers MkI trans-kit. I think I paid $75. Very nice kit by the way. Looks very nice. I guess this is ideal if you have the Mk2 donor at hand, those arent exactly cheap these days.
niteowl7710 Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 (edited) So there are two versions of this kit at release, the Timo one shown in the beginning of the thread as well as a Roger Clark '72 Daily Mirror RAC. I don't believe there to be a difference between the two other than included decals. The kits are now IN STOCK!Out of the gate Rejimodel (Czech Company) will be offering 8 decal sheets for this kit, including Timo's '74 Daily Mirror RAC Colbert Lighters entry, giving you a nice 3 year sweep of winning liveries.
