Reeves Racing Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 This was fun kit. For its age and that it's an AMT kit it really is a great kit. It's not Tamiya but has a ton of parts and lots of detail. If you can pick one up I recommend the kit. The wheels are from the Revell 99 Mustang Cobra kit. The tires are from a Tamiya 88 911 Turbo kit. The engine is from a Tamiya BMW 635i. Paint is Duplicolor. Decals are parts box. Scratch made roll bar coated with AlClad II Chrome. PE seat belts and brake rotors. BMF window trim with shaky hand painted rubber gaskets.
sjordan2 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Nice job. Reminds me of the John Fitch Bonneville speed test car.
dublin boy Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 It came out really well Mitch, those wheels are much better. Looks like something Fangio would have driven on the Pan American
gtx6970 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Very nice, I had an opportunity to sit in a real SLR about 15 years ago ,,its not an easy car for a bigger person to get into . But not half bad once your in
Toast Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 This is a really cool build! Excellent job on the paint and decals. Decals on silver always scare me but yours look great!
Ridge Rider Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Very nice. I find using fine tip Sharpies or paint pens give me better control and results than I can with a brush. Again, very nice nonetheless.
Reeves Racing Posted January 31, 2015 Author Posted January 31, 2015 Thanks guys. I used Sharpies first Steve and it was a little straighter but I didn't like how shiny it was. I used testers "rubber" which is flat and not a pure black. I used to be able to paint a pin stripe on my models but my by-focals and hands aren't as steady anymore... It doesn't look as crisp but I really like the way the window trim on the 300SL is imbedded in the rubber gasket and I wanted that look on the model.
bill_67 Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 I love a rest mod car of any type, especially the classics. Something that can only be done in plastic. Great job on this kit, thank you for sharing it!
