Matt Bacon Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 ...has anyone built one of these or got a "known good" one in the stash that they could take a look at? I'm just starting one, and I'm a bit worried at the state of the main body parts. I assume that they should be kinda symmetrical, but the engine cover and the main cabin seem to be a bit "sideways". In particular, the spindly "A" pillars are very curved. Looking at my references, they probably should have some curvature, so they may be OK... I think, whatever, that I'll be gluing the engine cover in place to help "solidify" the body... there's a big clear window in there so you can see the engine properly, and the value of the "working" feature seems limited... If anyone can give me a solid read on what the body SHOULD look like, I'd be very grateful! bestest, M.
Paul H Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Unfortunately, I sold mine just before Christmas, and it was still all sealed in the bags, so I hadn't had the opportunity to test fit any parts. However, when comparing the unbagged bodyshell to that off the Heller / Airfix EB110 that I also (and still) have, I didn't spot anything strange or obviously asymmetrical about it. If you haven't already done so, is trial fitting the windscreen not any good for checking whether the A pillars are still as they should be?

I remember dealing with some warped parts- that was, in fact, the main reason it never got finished. I just didn't know what I was doing when it came to dealing with warped parts back then. The plumbing in the engine bay was also a little nightmarish but I managed to pull it off. One of these days I need to find it and take it apart so I can do it justice.

This one will have to be built "closed up" There's a big window to see the engine detail through, but the opening engine cover is part of the problem -- there's not enough structure around the cabin to hold everything in place unless it's fixed. Foxer Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 I just got a Monogram version in a trade. It had been started and body was painted. Most body parts are still on the trees. The body itself looks very straight. The A pillars sure are thin but look ok. Everything else looks good by eye. I could take some photos from different angles if you'd like .. it's no problem.

Assuming Matt has a Revell-AG boxed version(?), are they both (Revell-AG(?) and Monogram kits) the same kit as this Airfix kit? I'm assuming Monogram simply re-boxed a Revell-AG kit, provided Revell-AG used the same "chimney" type chrome sprue feed as Revell USA did, like so:
Matt Bacon Posted March 4, 2015 Author Posted March 4, 2015 The Revell one and the Airfix one are different -- the Airfix one does the whole top half of the cabin as a single transparent piece, with a roof to glue on top. It's clearly differently engineered from the Revell, with more 1:1 parts combined into single mouldings. I'm pretty sure the Monogram is the same as Revell, and the Heller is the same as (and the origin of) the Airfix one.
