southpier Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 a volks-vagen which knows not whether it coming or going
restoman Posted April 23, 2015 Author Posted April 23, 2015 Warmer weather slowed me down - lots to do other than play around on the bench. Chassis is just about finished. Put down a mix of black and grey embossing powder for a salt & pepper carpet - almost a perfect match to my real-life '74 Super. The really sadly detailed engine is in, not too pleased with the intake and carbs, might look for something better. Heck, anything is better than what's on there now...
restoman Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 I think I have the main body ready, except for lots of scribe work. Seats are in, look pretty good I think, with the salt and pepper carpet. All the interior upholstery is going to be primer grey. Found some carbs that might do duty as twin Solex units - better than the junky things that came with the kit. Hacked up some intake runners from a Corvette TPI set-up for the carbs to mount to.
restoman Posted May 19, 2015 Author Posted May 19, 2015 Scribing in body panel gaps... My eyes are too old for this! Should be in it's final coat of primer this week sometime.
restoman Posted May 20, 2015 Author Posted May 20, 2015 ...Having far too much fun... One side is scribed, a few touch-ups to do but I think it's reasonable. Next time I'll start with a better kit... cutting in lines where none existed before is not for me. Spent a good half hour stirring up the paint I plan to use. It's been in my basement since '07 when I used it on a full size '71 New Yorker. Very glad there's only a quart or so left in the can... my arm is pretty tired! A lot of the metallic and resins had sunk to the bottom but I managed to get it all back into suspenion. It's an awesome colour! The colour-on-a-stick pic is taken without a flash... the metallic is actually very fine.
Twokidsnosleep Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 That paint shines even in the dark!!! This will look awesome
wayne swayze Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Looks great! I still like the belt line going around the back! Nice work!
restoman Posted June 9, 2015 Author Posted June 9, 2015 Finally, some paint! Still very fresh, but here's a peek: Pro Spray Chrysler K6 Dark Burnt Orange with Pro Spray clear.
restoman Posted June 10, 2015 Author Posted June 10, 2015 A full day of curing, ready for some pictures. Nice and clean, one speck of dirt on the bed floor. Not bad for spraying just inside my garage with the doors wide open. After 30 some-odd years of spraying for a living, I made a rookie mistake and pulled the trigger on a part without first testing the pattern against something that doesn't matter. Got some chunks of metallic on the rear apron, looks like a totally different colour. I felt pretty dumb... and then looked around to make sure no one was watching. ... But I'm really happy with how it turned out.
Tom Geiger Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Looks great in color.... and one of my favorite colors at that!
