Joe Handley Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Got a freebee Revell '57 Chevy Snapper out of the scratch and dent stuff at work, some bodywork required The roof does appear to be straightening out now that the A-Pillars and Vent Window Frames are gone "thumbsup"
jeffs396 Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Make a convertible out of it Joe! The body on the snapper is more accurate than the glue 'vert anyway...
Deathgoblin Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Did Godzilla get to that one first? Good luck getting it straightened out! And nothing beats free.
Joe Handley Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 Make a convertible out of it Joe! The body on the snapper is more accurate than the glue 'vert anyway... I'm seriously thinking going with a cantilevered roof, ala Lil' Coffin! Did Godzilla get to that one first? Good luck getting it straightened out! And nothing beats free. Not sure, one of my bosses has been taking all of the snapper kits from the scratch and dent pallets we got and though she accidentally crushed it. Told here that would take a bunch of weight beyond what she was putting on it or an angry significant other like Bill was talking about a while back. Dad thinks it had abunch of weight on it while still hot or while in a hot container/trailer. And yes, free or significant discount is always good!
disabled modeler Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Anything free is always good...I have seen some real ones with roofs like that.
mustang1989 Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Lookin' like the Chevrolet version of "Christine" here. Will be watching.
bobthehobbyguy Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I like the idea of the cantilevered top like the lil coffin. Looking forward to seeing what you end up doing.
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 (edited) Looks like a natural for a top-chop to me. I got an old Johan Pontiac in much the same shape not too long ago, and that's where she'll head. Edited February 27, 2015 by Ace-Garageguy
Snake45 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 What I would do with that is, I'd graft parts of the quarters--including the spears and the wheel openings--onto the ex-MPC flip-nose '57 gasser sedan body. In fact, I think I've got a similarly crushed Revell full-detail '57 body that I might do that very thing with.
wayne swayze Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Commitment. This body reminds me of numerous kits that I've encountered in my modeling life. Some were from my buddy's basement others in bags and boxes at vendor tables. I see something that grabs me at the moment, and I want to bring it home and rescue it! A lot end up in the big box of cars and trucks that I call "the yard" ( as in junk yard ). But once in a while, I actually commit myself to rescuing the car, and they become some of my favourite builds. So I say go for it!!
Joe Handley Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 The top may have to come off, I will be searching for a resin Carson Top on Stevens International's site before long, pretty sure I saw one there the other night.
Joe Handley Posted March 3, 2015 Author Posted March 3, 2015 Looks like the roof and pillars are too far out of shape to save, got a new plan of attack, bopefully I'll have pictures up of it later.
DeeCee Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 (edited) What about a RADICAL roof chop? It's already half way there. Edited March 3, 2015 by DeeCee
Joe Handley Posted March 3, 2015 Author Posted March 3, 2015 (edited) The top has a severe twist, the pillars were bent just far enough over that I couldn't get things to line up the right. I did find something that will be wilder than a radical chop though, not sure if there have been any '57 Chevys done this way in any scale, but it will be outta this world if I can pull it off! Joe Handley Posted March 3, 2015 Author Posted March 3, 2015 (edited) Well, here's how I ended up going with the '57, still got some work to do on it to make it work. Any suggestions on how to trim the bubble top without ruining the clear plastic. Edited March 3, 2015 by Joe Handley
