mustang1989 Posted May 14, 2015 Author Posted May 14, 2015 Here's a lot more clear picture of where I'm headed with the brake booster/ master cylinder linkage/ pedal setup:
Mopar - D Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Joe when your done with your brake system don't forget to put the brake fluid in.
microwheel Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Everything is really coming along nicely Joe. I can;t wait to see what you do with the demon. But I'm likeing what your doing with this one that's for sure.
mustang1989 Posted May 16, 2015 Author Posted May 16, 2015 Thanks Jim! I'll tell you guys, I've spent the last couple of days ironing the hood and body blemishes out from all of the ejector pin marks and sink holes. There are tons of these things present all over the body and hood!! This kit is not one of Revell's more stellar kits but the molds are pretty old so I have to remember that when I want to complain. I removed the badging from the front of the hood and have completed all the body work on it. My next two plans for it are to cut out the rectangle in the hood for the carburetors and now that the bottom of the hood is all nice and smooth I'll probably shoot some chrome Spaz Stix on the undersides for a show truck style effect. Hopefully it'll turn out good enough to give a nice reflection of the engine off of it after I polish it up. I've re-worked the newer firewall/ forward cab area both inside and out starting with the removal of , you guessed it, ejector pin marks on the cab side of the floor area. I moved next to the firewall and removed all of the molded in wiring and component detail so I could install separate components and use real wire instead of the molded detail for a more realistic approach under the hood. I've still gotta fabricate brake and clutch pedals to make all that stuff work underneath. Firewall with molded detail: and the newer piece without the molded detail:
slusher Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Yes, i like the firewall and it looks so much better. I have a couple builds i would like to do the same thing to. What did you use to clean up the firewall Joe...???
mustang1989 Posted May 17, 2015 Author Posted May 17, 2015 (edited) Dan: Thanks buddy! Will be talkin' to you this week..... Carl: I used Flexi Files sanding sticks and thanks for the comments. Edited May 17, 2015 by mustang1989
mustang1989 Posted May 18, 2015 Author Posted May 18, 2015 Folks the motor is NOT done yet. I had to install it to figure out all the electrical ckt , fuel and brake line routing I've gotta do with this build. I've got it in there though!
microwheel Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Really looking good Joe. I know what ya mean about ejector pin marks. Seems like ya find them alot on domestic kits especially older ones.
Stray Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 This is really coming along fantastically Joe. Every update keeps getting better!
mustang1989 Posted May 20, 2015 Author Posted May 20, 2015 Thanks fellas. Progress seems to be moving exceptionally slow these days. I've got a a lot of planning involved and the work is all getting carried out but nothing worthy of pictures...................yet.
mustang1989 Posted May 21, 2015 Author Posted May 21, 2015 (edited) Although the picture doesn't depict the exact shade here ( just short of a blood red actually) ...something tells me that I'm really gonna like this paint ! It is the exact shade of red I was after. Edited May 21, 2015 by mustang1989
mustang1989 Posted May 21, 2015 Author Posted May 21, 2015 (edited) Model Master Enamel there Tim. I looked high and low and couldn't find a shade of Tamiya acrylic that I was happy with. Everything l looked at was just too bright of a color. I've got your notes for future use with the acrylic paints but just couldn't bring myself to change up shades of paint on this build. taaron76 Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Joe - You can still use Tamiya acrylic clear over Model Master enamel, if you choose to. Same concept for finishing would apply. That's my only beef with Tamiya is that their color selection is limited. I used MM enamel (Metallic Black) on the '65 Chevelle, but will use Tamiya acrylic clear over the top of it. For some reason, Tamiya acrylic clear just flows so good when thinned with denatured alcohol... so good that I've intentionally tried to make the paint run and it wouldn't do it. I swear by it! lol Tim
afx Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Looks good Joe. I agree with your choice going with the smother firewall. I never cared for the molded on wiring detail kit manufacturers started doing.
slusher Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Very nice paint Joe, i really like how you removed the detail on the firewall. Something else i am going to use in some of my builds. What is the color of your MM enamel ??
mustang1989 Posted May 21, 2015 Author Posted May 21, 2015 Tim: I've got some time between now and the clear coat but I'll keep you posted on that. JC: Thanks man! I used to attempt to make the most out of the molded detail but it just aint worth it these days. Carl: I appreciate it man. I'm using Model Master Dark Red in the spray can. Learned a couple of tricks with the rattle can usage along the way and so far... it's working. Dan: Man I hope so. Thanks BTW
Monty Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Carl: I'm using Model Master Dark Red in the spray can. Learned a couple of tricks with the rattle can usage along the way and so far... it's working. If you get a free moment, would you mind elaborating on these rattle can tricks you've learned? Thanks!
microwheel Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Your firewall turned out nice Carl. Would have got on to get it out sooner, but had a issue with the batteries in my motorhome, earlier that needed my attention.
mustang1989 Posted May 22, 2015 Author Posted May 22, 2015 (edited) Monty: I applied a couple of misting coats on first and allowed to dry for about an hour and then shot the finishing coats on. I've got an article on it if you or anyone else are interested. Jim: Thanks man! Hope your trip goes well. Back to engineering progress this morning. Nothing worth takin' pics of yet. mustang1989 Posted May 23, 2015 Author Posted May 23, 2015 My son and I are in Sugarland this weekend for a hockey tournament that he is playing in and wouldn't you know it that I brought along the travel work bench items.......I'll have that hood completed this weekend with the hole cut out for the carburetors and cleaned up. In my die hard fashion:
slusher Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Working on a trip Joe a true model man. If your staying in a motel watch out for the bed bugs. I saw an article they was real bad in Texas...
