Ice 'T'

It's a Super Cool Ice-Totin' Machine

  • Original year: 1970
  • Company: Monogram
  • Scale: 1/24
  • Designer: Tom Daniel

Tom Daniel designed this mod drag strip version of a wild ice-hauling machine and called it... what else?

The ICE 'T'!

This li'l chiller will leave 'em cold at the starting line, the Chevy 396 Rat Motor with high ram intake manifold and dual Holly carbs will make the hottest fans shiver with delight.

You'll freeze at the sight of that groovy interior, the Block of ice on the tailgate has chrome ice Tongs, raking front end, concealed headlights that open and close.

When Tom Daniel was a kid, he didn't have a refrigerator, he had an icebox and the iceman came with his big tongs and delivered the ice to him.

Most of the delivery trucks of the day were modified C-cab designs, so TD combined that memory with his version of a futuristic C-cab delivery 'T' to deliver the ice.

Now that's cool!

Almost boxstock, with a few small changes:

Removal of the side fuel tanks, ...wired motor, ...enlarged opening in the front nose, ...the wheels, on back with aluminum sleeves, turned and polished, with rubbers, carved from a motorcycle handlebar grip, ...the rear lights are LEDs, ...real metal chains, ...the color is a metallized, pearl ice blue thing...

Hope, you like it.

I really enjoy what you've been doing with these old show rods. Traditionally, these have not been taken seriously by more advanced modelers, but you have demonstrated that with skill and imagination they can be made worthy subjects.

Even the meanest raw material can become art in the hands of a true craftsman.

Thank you very much for the kind words! B)

Thats a great looking show car and I love the color!

Can you tell us more about the paint you used? It's

pretty awesome!!

Thanks,

Steve

I do not know exactly, i have almost never the same color on my builds, I like to experiment with the colors and mix them until I like the result...

On this build here is the base Tamiya metallic silver, TS 83, straight from the can.

Then follows decanted pearl light blue, TS 58, mixed with a little pearl white, TS 45, and as I said, mix until I like the shade...

I sprayed a couple of coats of clear lacquer, when it was dry, slightly wet sand the whole, then I have attached the decals.

Finally comes a layer of clear for the sealing, that's it... ;)
