If You Build It, They Will Come!

Recommended Posts

OK, we know the title is from 'Field of Dreams', but Studes weren't made in Iowa. There have been a few Studebaker kits, mostly the '53 Starliner kit and the '63 Avanti kit. Johan did make some Studebaker Lark promos in the early '60's. There hasn't been much else. WHHHYYYYYYY?

All Hawk type cars from '53-'64 are the same car with trim and sheetmetal differences. These would be easy cars for transkits. While a real Studebaker fan could tell the difference between a '53 frame and a '64 frame, one will fit under the other and not be out of place. Why not make a '56-'58 Golden Hawk? Maybe a '62-'64 GT Hawk?

The Larks are the same way. I forget who said those immortal words on here regarding Studebaker stuff, but I would think they could have a little following if bodies or pieces were made.

I jokingly made the comment about a '64 Daytona being made on another thread. I'd buy one in a heartbeat. But it would be a bear to make because of all the body lines on it. But I think the car is unique enough to sell well. I know if someone took on this job, I'd pester Ross Gibson to make an accurate Studebaker V8 with a Supercharger... B)

My Dad had a a '65 Commander Wagonaire when I was a kid. Built in Canada. I've got a lot of great memories of that car and the awesome summers we drove to the beach with all our beach stuff sticking out of the top of the retractable rear roof. I'd love to see kits of that and any other classic Studes. Dad was a card carrying member of the Studebaker Drivers Club for years and we attended events all over. I'd love to see a Champ pick up kit or any of the Hawk models. Stude styling was years ahead of the rest of the U.S. companies. I'd love to see that recognized and see more kits. One can dream anyway.

Premiere did make a Champ pickup kit, but it was kind of crude and underscale. At any rate, good luck finding one today! I think SJS did a custom Champ pickup in resin years ago, but it also is no longer available. Yeah- I'd buy either one... or a Hawk! :)

This is really strange...2 threads involving vehicles I first learned to drive in...

A 1962 Ford Pick-Up (Donnie Boger) and a 1965 Studebaker Commander Wagonaire

Driving to high school football games with people standing in the back of the "Stude" or riding in the back of the pick'em up truck, lots of good memories.

Mom driving the Stude in San Francisco and havin' the sliding roof slamming forward as she slammed on the brakes at the bottom of a hill...scared the holy boogers out her and my brothers and sisters all ridin' with her.

In '76 I owned a '69 Charger & a '59 Lark . Being stupid I broke the both rear leaf springs on the Stud . I was bummed out enough then the Charger ate it's Radiator . I wasn't working and had to scrap the Stud to fix the Charger . I cried as it was crushed . I am still not over it .

I was in the Hobby as the Resins started . I bought a John Hier '64 Hawk . An AAM '62 Hawk . A H C Miller '56 Hawk . I missed his '60 & '61 Lark Convertebles . I did recently get a '64 Hawk I am converting to a '63 . I'll take all the Studs you offer . I have AAM's 56 President . I would even buy a TKM if he offered one I don't have . :) I forgot , I have the MCW '60 Lark HT kits . One I have converted to a '61 . I also forgot the '52 Stud Pace Car . It was done by a deceased caster . RIP . And last and not least , the AAM '54 Connestoga . Modelhaus has the parts for the '61 Lark . Thanx ..

I'd love to see Studebaker pickups and a Wagonaire.

Someone has supposedly been working on getting a Conestoga out in resin, too? I remember seeing it mentioned at Resin Realm. Does anyone have any information on that?

I'll take any Studebaker that's offered, especially in styrene simply because it fits my budget a little easier.

Hey, AMT- if you've still got the tooling workups for the '50- I still have money to buy one.

I'm surprised no one has made the bits to make a '53 Starliner a '54 model. Not a lot of differences. And a '55 Speedster would be a great trans kit. Considering that Studebaker 'bolted' on their fins from '56-'61, it shouldn't be a big deal to represent these cars. That Conestoga would be great too, but remember, these were made based on the sedan platform, not the coupe & hardtop. Of course if someone makes a Connie, maybe we'll see more 2-dr sedans and 4-dr sedans.

I agree with more Studebakers . I haven't talked to any caster regretting making Studs as part of their product line . That is when I used to see these people . I have wanted the '55 President Speedster since 1955 when my Father and I went to see the new Studs that year . Lemon / Lime for me . Someone is making a '56 President currently . I wish I could remember who it is . I found it on <rocketfin.com/model_car_links> . The Hawks , yes . The later Daytonas (Lark) yes . Keep them coming . Thanx .. B):)

Model Car World is doing a 59-60 Lark, hardtop & sedan. I think Jimmy Flinstone is doing a bullit nose.

Yes , I have this also . Along with another made by a deceased Caster . RIP , i don't remember who it was . I think Modelhaus lists the '50 & '51 Top center grille . It is a repop of the original Promo . No glass or interior . Thanx ..

Don't get me started! I want Studebakers and more Studebakers. Right now I'm working on an R&R 1956 Golden Hawk. That hunk of resin is a pig but it's the only game in town if you want a Hawk! Wish there was a real kit. Not only is the R&R a poorly cast and somewhat inaccurate lump of resin, I'll have to make my own 352 Packard powerplant.sad.gif

Almost any post-war Stude is a subject I'd like to see kitted but if I had to pick three it would be the GT Hawk (prefer '63 supercharged but any of them will do), 1955 Speedster and the '54 Connie. Honorable mention to a bullet-nosed 1950 Champion business coupe.
