I’ve always admired the workmanship that goes into low riders. Especially the multi layered paint jobs. There’s a guy that shows his models at our local LIARS show and the NNL East. His work is fantastic and always inspires me. After seeing his work a couple weeks ago I’ve decided to dip my toe into the water and give it a try. I’ll be converting the 70 Monte Carlo into a 1971. I don’t know if I’m going to do a multi color paint job or maybe a two-tone. But I worked tonight on the ride height. I wanted it Looooooooow!

I love the shape of these cars and this Galaxie Ltd. kit is lovely to work with. got a swamp cooler 3D printed by Shapeways in the Netherlands, artillery wheels from The Parts Box, in Australia. Roof n fenders will be candy red and the hood and sides will be white gold.

Just finished this Monte. I swapped out the rear axle for something with better detail, scratch built coils and hydraulic struts and made a 4-link suspension setup. Rides on Pegasus wheels and painted with automotive paint and nail polish. Flocked carpet with matching headlining.

I love all aspects of car culture, but I really do admire the artistry and devotion that goes into lowriders. I can safely say my next few builds will be either bombs or lowriders. I love playing with colours and tape.! I added subwoofers and a switch box and dropped the rear end as far as it would go. I hope you like it, even if it isn't your bag

I'm currently in love with lowriders and bombs. There's something about the detail and the colours that fascinates me. I'm trying to improve my paint skills, so lowrider paint jobs are a great way to learn new techniques and get creative. So I've got my supplies ready: tamiya tape, new #11 blades, 4 different width line knives, 6 shades of glitter nail polish and 3 solid colours. I'm going to freestyle my design. The horizontal surfaces will be patterned with shades of red with pinstripes in silver and the sides will be mica white with some subtle pinstripes in silver. The gold Daytons will either be stripped and painted red/white or red candy over the gold. I'll try and post the steps of taping and painting, as I go.

This is essentially an AMT '60 Chevrolet Custom Fleetside with a few changes and upgrades. It was meant to be a quickie shelf build, so there isn't a lot of extra brake line plumbing or major body mods. Just a nice kustom pickup in flattened light purple. The '60 Mercury grille is an old AMT Parts Pack piece that was narrowed to fit the Chevy Surround. Emblems, tailgate latches and door handles were shaved. The front bumper was flipped, and the lower section painted to give the front end a bit lighter look. Lowering was achieved in three ways. Smaller rubber and mags are Pegasus Sovereigns. Rear airbags and the accompanying compressor/tank are from AMT's '39 Chevy Wagonrod. Most of the drop comes from a severe 5"-6" (scale) channel. Extra height was removed from the inner bed sides before reattaching the rear fenders to provide clearance for the slammed rear end and dual exhaust system, optional parts from an AMT '51 Chevrolet Convertible. The exhaust terminates in stainless turn-downs from a Metal Bug sci-fi detail set. Those stake sides came from a Revell '41 Chevrolet pickup. That same convertible donated the dual-carbs, intake, split exhaust manifolds and valve cover. D&J aluminum air cleaners, and Detail Master pulleys and distributor add more WOW when the hood is popped. After trimming down the firewall and interior side panels to raise the floor, the seat needed to be cut down to sit directly on the floorboards. Scale Motorsport zebra decals add some spice to the pearl white and purple interior. Like I said, nothing too fancy. It may get a hitch so it can trailer around an old dragster or some wild bubbletop rod. -

Hi!. This is my version of a well - known Tamiya kit. Local ( Finnish ) plates, pegasus wheels and tyres and some minor modifications. Tamiya spray paint layers in following order: - pink primer - gun metal - clear red - clear - clear green - clear - pearl - clear x 2 As usual, all comment and questions are more than welcomed. I recognized a renaissance of Lowrider models here on the board in the last few months. Many very fine executed builds and WIPs could be seen recently, which reminded me of some of my own old projects ,though they do not have the standard of the builds that were shown here (which is not surprising, I built the following models about 20 years ago when I was still a teenager in the early and mid 90s). The green ´63 was actually my second model kit ever and was built in 1993 with a scratch built chain steering wheel and Pegasus wheels and tires: The purple ´64 (built in ´95) has Hoppin´Hydros rims and scratch built hydraulics in the opened trunk: Both are old AMT kits with stick-through-metal-axles which allowed me to simulate working hydraulic suspensions. I think I will definitely have to improve my pant and detailing skills before I start a new Lowrider project... Thanks for looking!

I watched some Lowrider videos on YouTube and I was smitten, with the quality of the work, on these cars. I try and do something new, on each build and learn as I go. So, this is the first time I've done a paint job like this. I'm going to buy an airbrush soon, but this is all rattle can paint. The tape is Tamiya 3mm flexible tape. It's ok for gentle curves, but not for tighter radius ones. It's probably easier in the long run, to make your own line tape, with twin blades on a sheet of glass. I'll do that next time.

US Cars AMT 1: 2565 Pontiac Grand Slam in lowrider style Hi Guys ! After some time and 2 hospital visits followed by rehab for 2 new knee joints, I'll meet again to introduce something new. It is the AMT kit P65 `Pontiac Grand Slam. I have tried something new in the model. The paint in a nail polish that was diluted by me so far that you could inject it. Another effect varnish. Over it then several layers of clear coat. The roof was first painted with clear coat, then applied to the still wet clearcoat a carrier film with the Rainbowflitter. After about 10 minutes, I pulled off the film again, there were already some parts of the clear coat dry and it was this zebra effect. I then blackened the empty sections with a brush and sealed them with clear lacquer. I look forward to your comments. Greetings from Jan

Hi guys, today I want to show you one of my Lowrider projects, built in 2013. I wanted to do something different than the usual Impalas from the ´60s (though I like them very much!), so I used AMT´s 1957 Bel Air Sport Coupe. The build features: wired engine, flocked interior, scratch built chain steering wheel, photo- etched club plaque, scratchbuilt fuzzy dices, lowered suspension, Pegasus wire wheels, cut out deck lid with scratch built hinges, scratch built trunk, Pegasus hydraulic pumps and batteries. Painted in Jade Green and Chrystal Silver. Called this one „The Jade Buddha“. Thanks for looking, comments welcome. Greetings from Germany

Here is a Monogram 39 Chevy coupe done in OG lowrider bomb fashion. Exterior: hinged hood, trunk & driver's door. Detail Junkees photoetch grill, plate toppers & frames. Tamiya Pearl Green with urethane clear. Resin cast artilleries with Hoppin Hydros tires. Aftermarket resin cast swamp cooler. Raccoon tail made from a fishing lure. Engine/suspension: engine swapped to the 6 cylinder from the 51 Chevy kit. Aluminum air cleaner. Subtle weathering. Lowered suspension. Scratchbuilt exhaust. Interior: bench seat from 40 Plymouth kit. Scratchbuilt blinds, umbrella holder, hat holder, resin cast brim hat, serape headliner, scratchbuilt visors, photoetch steering wheel, cranks & handles, pirated pedals & shifter from VW T1.

So this is my attempt to build Tamiya´s ´36 Toyoda AA as a ´37 Bagged lowrider bomb. Paint tamiya TS-11 Maroon, scratchbuild visor and many other small details, Modelhaus swamp cooler, AMT hubcaps with Pegasus wheels and tyres. I installed air bags front and rear and had to modify front section of the frame and oil pan to clear lowered and narrowed front axle. The air suspension is now supposed to be in its maximum lowlow posotion. Oh, I also decided to convert this to leht hand steering version. Pics:

HI! This lowrider model is based on a 1/25 promo which had no information of model company that has made it. Promo was packed in white cardboard box with color prints of drawn pics of red Regal and large Buick- logos. Maybe it´s made by Brooklin or MPC or AMT... I don´t know. Same company has obviously made the Buick Reatta promo bcause it it so similar to this Regal. But on to model: I Disassembled the promo and painted it with tamiya paints. Body has: Surfacer white + Light pearl red + lame flake ( PS) + clear + metallic orange ( thin mist layers ) + clear Some modifications to rear subrame was done also and finally I added Pegasus wheels. Just finished my first lowrider. I think it came out pretty good. By accident, I modified it to do 3 wheel motion and have the back dropped. Will be doing this kit again.

Ladies and Gents, This will be the official Lowrider Tour that will cover lowriders. The CBP will go from 10/1/16 to 10/1/17. It will be long enough for all those who wish to participate, and long enough for those who love to take their time on models! rules: 1) must be a lowrider, for obvious reasons. This means, it must have lowrider wheels (spokes).2) you can build it out of the box or you can go all out custom.3) the build must be a brand new build or barely started, please post pictures4) the build will start on 10/1/16 and last through 10/1/175) have fun!we can have public voting or a photo album for all of the cars in the CBP once it's over, and i would even go as far as getting a trophy or something made for the winner.

Well picked this project up at a hobby show in Taunton Ma basically because it came with a lowrider bicycle that I thought was pretty cool! Built this couple years ago but never got around to sharing on this forum. Basically it was a quick build to get the creative juices flowing again and get me out of a rut/slump and motivated to build again. Total build time was around 48hrs. Being that it was built quickly, it has no chassis detail or engine so pretty much a curbside. As some of you might recognize its done in a style(my trademark colours you could say) that I have done many times before on other builds. Paint Body: Tamiya TS-14 gloss black Interior: Tamiya TS-49 bright red which was over-coated with Alclad ALC 314 klear kote flat Wheels Pegasus #1109 DZ's chrome with spokes painted/airbrushed with Tamiya X-1 black Normally dont polish or wax my black paint jobs, but needed to get out the polishing cloth's and wax on this one.

Another build done in the exact same style as the 72 Chevelle I posted recently. This was built back in 2012 for a community build(2012 Lowrider tour) on this forum, but it seems I never posted it in the Under Glass section.

Here’s my latest, the AMT ’60 Ford Starliner. I lowered the suspension, filled the antenna hole in the front wing. MCG PE details were used, but I didn’t use the PE grille, as you need to buy separate headlight buckets, from Modelhaus or somewhere else… Thanks MCG. That cost me $20 and it was all but useless. Why not include resin buckets in with the PE set? I mean, how much more would it cost? Anyway, I replaced the dash switches and the dials. I flocked the carpets and wired the engine. Wheels are from Pegasus and I made the exhaust system from lead solder, with polished aluminium Bellflowers. I made the antenna, too, after seeing a similar one in reference photos. I thought it looked quite period-correct. Paint was silver base, with silver flake on top, followed by purple candy and more clear. The downside to all this paint, is that the panel lines disappeared in places, so a lot of the BMF had to be done by eye, with a steady hand. I was sweating bullets. The pattern was masked with some of that greeting-card craft border. The self-adhesive stuff. Er…I think that’s it. Here are the pics, comments welcome: Even though I used lots of artificial light, the purple didn't really come out strongly in the photos. Believe me, it really pops in the sun!

Not much to show yet, but I just started today on my '60 Chevrolet pickup. My first order of business to narrow up my AMT Parts Pack '60 Mercury grille to fit the width of the pickup's opening, and to clearance the opening so the grille will nestle back into it. I removed six grille bars per side, and you can see the grille opening modified on one side. When it goes back together, the inner headlights should hide the seams.

So heres a project i've been working on for some time. got the kit sometime back and wanted to do something different, so i racked my brain and got to work. Working on the skirts with suff corners and made some F&B bumper guards and new style mouldings.
