Hey, all. I found a decent old never-painted built-up 59 El Camino on ebay, and rebuilt it as a mild custom. Wheels are from a Revell 49 Merc with painted whitewalls. I used the custom grille and bumpers from a Revell 59 Impala convertible kit. Krylon apple red paint with some wet look clear. Pretty simple build. Comments welcome!

This photo from online was my inspiration for the model. I liked the chrome wheels and whitewalls on it. Thanks for the compliments, guys!

Oops, I forgot the license plate! I'll add it later. Seems like I always forget some detail. Gettin' old!

Nice clean rebuild! Did you have much trouble disassembling it? With all those delicate parts in the front end, it must have been hard getting the wheels off without breaking anything.

(And if you're not using that tonneau cover... ;))

Chris, I wanted to use the tonneau cover, but it has a bad tire burn on it. It must have sat for years with a tire on it, and it melted into the cover. I'm planning to try and repair it with some putty and sanding (if I can) and put it on the bed. It came apart pretty easily, but the inner wheel halves were glued solid to the axles with half a tube of glue, I think! So I just glued the Merc wheels to the existing inners. They do not rotate!
