ea0863 Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 Staying with the theme of old cars we owned and replicated in styrene, I bought my wife a 1984 Monte Carlo LS in 1989 which she enjoyed for some years. However, when I looked for a scale model of this car about ten years ago, there were none to be found (does anyone know of them having been made?) The closest I could come to was either an SS with different front and rear, or a 1980 Monte Carlo promo model. I opted for the latter, and gave it the same color combo and landau roof my wife's had. This was also my first foray into applying foil, which I thought came out really well all things considered. 1
Plowboy Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 Looks very realistic! The colors suits it perfectly! MPC made a kit of the '80. It came with a chopper and small trailer IIRC. There was a resin caster that did the later '80s (maybe an '86) Monte Carlo LS. But, it's been a while since I've seen one. 1
TransAmMike Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 Nice work. The real one was probably a comfortable ride. 1

I will look for a resin version as I would still like to build an '84 LS. I don't know how promo models are considered in our hobby, but I tend to grab whatever works and adapt it to the best of my ability - whether that's a promo, a diecast, or even a toy.
AMT68 Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 Very nice work. I have one of these promo models in Cinnabar and an original MPC "Class Action" kit. This would be a potential color combination for that build. 1

espo Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 Great looking recreation of your wife's Monte Carlo. The colors and the vinyl roof look perfect. The chrome foil looks great and I like how you got the wide lower body trim. 1
larman Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 Very nice! Really accurate details. I remember a lot of the later ones ('83-'87) in that color combination. 1
lazlow Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 clean! I like the 1980 plate in body color like they did back then, did it com with that plate?

james220 Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 My Dad had that very car Same color and everything. Really nice work on it. 1
spencer1984 Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 As a former '84 owner, I've always liked the look of these Monte Carlos. Jevries used to do an LS conversion for the Monogram kit, not sure if he still makes them or not but might be worth dropping him a line. He's at https://www.facebook.com/Jevrieslowriders. 1
