TransAmMike Posted September 12, 2023 Posted September 12, 2023 (edited) Started this '57 snap kit in April thinking a quick and easy build. I was sure wrong!! After a first painting snafu, then week long hospital stay for emergency surgery and just this past week a bout with the dreaded Covid (second time) I was finally able to complete it. Pictures kinda suck with my new phone but heres the story and a very few pictures. This was my dearly departed Dad's third '57 back in the late sixty's. His first was a convertable that he hated because the top hardware rattled too much. He loved the second one and it eventually became my first car. The third and last one was bought around 1965 or 66. This first picture is the car with yours truly getting in it back in the day. The model is the Revell snap kit, painted with Tamiya Acrylic X-1 Black and cleared with Tamiya X-22. Thanks for looking!! Edited September 12, 2023 by TransAmMike delete picture 14
Zippi Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 Dang Buddy. You killed this one. Pics look Great. Very nice build.
Hard_2_Handle_454 Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 Looks great. Where'd you get the wire wheels?
ncbuckeye67 Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 Wow, that is absolutely stunning! A snap kit is sometimes a welcome break, from the full detail glue kits.
Hi-Po Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 Nicely done, neat and clean. Good job on the paint and BMF.
happy grumpy Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 Perfect example of what a snapper can look like when done with care . The black paint makes even more classic. It certainly looks the part.

Thanks Eric....the wheels I think are from a 68 or 69 Corvette kit that a forum member sent me tho I can't remember who it was. They actually look close to a mid 60's Riviera wheel cover. As I remember they were already on the real car when my Dad bought the car.
AMT68 Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 (edited) Perfect clear finish and top notch detailing throughout. Looks like Chevys were fairly popular in your neighborhood back then. Glad to hear you're doing better Mike. Edited September 13, 2023 by AMT68
espo Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 Beautiful looking tribute to your father and his '57's.
karbuildr Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 Very nice build, and very nice back story. These days, I build a lot of snap kits as well. They're light years better from what they used to be, and yours is a beautiful black Chevy.
TransAmMike Posted September 14, 2023 Author Posted September 14, 2023 A sincere thank you to all who responded to my thread. This was the second '57 snapper I have built. The detail on the body seems right on but I think some of the crispness of the trim is deteriorating with the older versions of the model. Thanks again!!
atomicholiday Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 That's a really clean build. Great job.
ewetwo Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 Really nice build and tribute to your dad.
