Indy Turbine Push Tractor

This little tractor comes in the MPC Lotus 56B Turbine kit.  

I machined new center nuts for the wheels, added some wiring and made some decals.

That's pretty neat.  Kind of odd that you have to push your 600hp Lutus around with a 12hp lawn tractor.

I too didn't get the correlation/combination for the same reasoning.  But it was the early 70's and kits had some fun gimmicks...

the Indy 500 used Wheel Horse lawn tractors as tow vehicles in the 60s     they even had a prerace race with them

the real one uses a belt from the right side [pto] of engine to the trans

Great job.  Too bad that kit never came with accurate Wheel Horse decals.  I mowed a lot of grass with four different Wheel Horse lawn and garden tractors.

Very cool and well built little model, and I like the subtle weathering. But along those lines, the tires look too new and clean. At least to me.

Dirt washes off wheels and tires, oily grime, not so much.  Ever look at real cars?  The chassis and engine are often dirty, but the paint and wheels are clean.

Considering how tiny Indy cars are compared to your average Detroit iron, probably not that odd.

The tractor was probably included so the box wouldn't look quite so empty.

I understand what you stated, but the tractor's tires have a sheen to them (like they were recently coated with Armor All).  Grimy tires usually have dead flat surface.  I suppose that could be caused by the lighting of the model for those photographs.  The tires likely look perfectly acceptable in-person.

Thanks!  Decals for the tractor do not come in the kit.  I made them.

Great job! I'd still like to get one of these some day, looks like it makes for a nice little piece.
