MonoPed Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Already setting a a build record compared to recent years! AMt '49 Ford kit. I lowered it, spliced in a '65 Corvette front clip/suspension, and swapped in a 9" axle from the Revell '32 Ford kit, along with relocated parts box shocks. Wheels are from the kit with parts box baby Moon caps covered in BMF, mounted in Revell '49 Merc tires. I used the kit's engine block and trans, parts box heads and intake (AMT '49 Merc?), parts box carbs and air cleaners from the Revell '49 Merc. Other details include plug wires, vac advance, brake line, oil lines, fuel lines, and a beehive filter. The interior is stock except for a steering column from the Revell '32 Ford. The tail lights are leftover bits from the Acc Mins Corvette Grand Sport, and the tag light is from a Monogram 427 Cobra. I also carved the smooth custom hood to fit over the stock grill, and made all new windows from .010" K&S clear sheet. The body is Tamiya TS-60 Pearl Green, the interior is XF-21 Sky, with AS-2 lt grey on the floor. The wheels and engine block are also XF-21 Sky.
Bernard Kron Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Super sweet, super clean build. You really sweated the details to get this done your way and it shows. Very nice stance and the suspension updates make the chassis really pop. Two thumbs up!
1320wayne Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 That is a very sharp build. And your photography is awesome as well.
george 53 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Wow, Bri, you sure nailed the look! Thats a REAL NICE CLEAN build, the kind that are so smooth, you don't really notice all the work that's in it! You are a VERY talented builder indeed, and it shows!
Fisher61 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 That is just one gorgeous Ford! Thats just the way I like a custom, nothing overblown, or heavy body mods, and it still has a Flathead, and a beautiful one at that. I'll have to keep looking at this one, it"s real eye candy!
Foxer Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Everyone already took all my words ... this is one tasteful build.. so subtle it jumps out at you and you don't know why. Just gorgeous!
59 Impala Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Now this is one nice 49 Ford. Looks fantastic. I really like it. I'm building one now and it's Black with red wheels. Hot rod from back in the day. How did you BMF the caps and not have any wrinkles in them? Dan
mr moto Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Sweet and clean!! I love the look like a real world custom daily driver! Nice Stuff!
RodBurNeR Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 SWEET! foil work is very nice , rake is right on! nice detail too.
Gary66 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I say this one needs to be a cover car! Way to go Brian!
carrucha Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 One of the nicest '49 Fords I have seen on this forum. I really like your attention to detail and finish, especially on the engine. Excellent job. carrucha
Andy Wyatt Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Very subtle, very clean, very cool...and you know I'm crazy about flatties! You knocked this one out of the park Brian!
Chuck Most Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 One of the finest kits ever produced, and one of the best builds I've ever seen of that kit! Well played, sir!
MonoPed Posted April 25, 2009 Author Posted April 25, 2009 Thanks guys!! This was a fun build, and I sorta suprised myself with the way it turned out ...How did you BMF the caps and not have any wrinkles in them? I started with a small piece of foil a little larger than the caps. I set the foil down, adheasive up on the backing sheet, then placed the cap in the center. I slowly burnished the foil in place working from the center out, then finished burnishing with the side of a toothpick untill I could wrap the edge, and trim the excess. A little buffing with a piece of cotton t-shirt finished them off.
Bryce Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Absolutely stunning. Having worked with this kit I can totally appreciate the amount of work involved to make it look this good. Great idea on the hood - I spent hours adding strip the make the stock hood fit better - never thought of just carving out the custom one...
speedy5963 Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 I really like your build here. I can tell there was a lot of time spent on the fine details of cleaning and making things fit right. Great job!!
