Skip Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Where can I find transparent colored sheet to use for Gasser Windows? Like Red, Orange, Yellow, Blue... Red and Green sheets on eBay what about other coolers and hopefully at better prices?
twopaws Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 The bigger Hobby Towns carry these sheets with their Plustruc/Evergreen assortments. Have heard guys using folder covers from Staples. Haven't used the last but sounds like an option.
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Even some of the better-stocked drug and grocery stores in my area have vividly colored transparent report covers in the school-supplies or stationery sections.
Craig Irwin Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I bought a package of tinted transparent folders from the school and office supply row at a local 'mart. There was 3 or 4 in different colors, enough to last years for a couple of bucks.
george 53 Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Yep! You can trim it to ANY shape an a spot of epoxy resin will hold it in place!
blunc Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 if you have a theater or movie lighting supply store you can get "gels" that they use to color their lights for stage work.
Skip Posted December 15, 2013 Author Posted December 15, 2013 Lighting Gels on eBay auction 271241483024 Anyone know how thick these are? Would be great if they are the thickness of the colored sheets that Revell used to put in their kits. Check the available colors, this is more along the lines of the stuff I'm looking for. For ease of workability 0.010 ( 1/4" = 0.250 so 0.250 / 25 = 0.010 ) or 0.015 ( 0.015 X 25 = 0.375 or 3/8" thick ) both are stock sizes for plexiglass and would be ideal. Measured the clear sheet in a K. S. Pittman Willys kit and it is 0.006 thick. ( 0.006 X 25 = 0.150 or 5/32" thick ) might be a little thin for a race car. Oops, sorry the Engineer in me pops out every now and then!
Art Anderson Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 K&S offers several colors of transparent plastic sheets. Any well-stocked hobby shop should have them. Art
goodwin3224 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 doesn't O'rileys sell transparent paint?
zenrat Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I got clear red sheet for a '50 Chevy gasser from an old VCR. I've tried tinting kit "glass" with clear paints and candys but by the time I get enough costs on to give the required colour depth the opacity is down by too much.
High octane Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Some of the larger hobby shops carry colored acetate sheets usually under the "Midwest" name and I think I saw some at my local Hobby Lobby as well.
Tom Geiger Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Another vote for report covers. I did this one years ago.
Modelbuilder Mark Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 In addition to the above listed suggestions, if you have clear sheet on hand, you can also use Tamiya colored clears, like their blue, red etc etc, and just airbrush on light from the backside. Also,k at Hobby Lobby in their diorama/train/art supply aisle (two aisle over from the models) they have individual sheets of a few colors as well.
