Indeed I did do that post on "Modeling 101" back in '09, but I would read and follow what someone else has to add. One can never learn too many techniques to get a particular job done. ;)

Hmmm........I don't know what happened to the lost pics in my original tutorial. They may have been "lost" when Fotki made their move recently. There are some pics that I know were posted their that were never replaced after they moved/switched servers.

Interesting that I mentioned we used to have a large pinned section on tutorials that was removed by a moderator, but no one seems to remember it. The moderator in question said the same questions keep popping up time after time, and were covered in the clearly identified pinned tutorials at the top of the page, but no one looked at them, and people keep asking the same old things that are readily at their fingertips. So he removed a raft of excellent tutorials.

It was the closest thing we've ever had to an FAQ section. If you want do this, you almost need your own website, with many separate sections. Here's one I posted there with a complete index, now long gone from this site:

Jantrix, I think your idea is noble but you will totally be wasting your time on a forum that can't handle it, based on past experience.

I have no idea why this is duplicated.

I like the idea. I would read it to see if there's an easier way to do things or something I didn't know at all. I like Harry's idea about pinning & locking it, too.

knowledge is cumulative, so I'm sure there'll be something we can all use.

Exactly! My skills are improving because I pick up bits and pieces of knowledge from a multitude of posts and subjects. There just might be a trick you have that some may really appreciate.

Just went through Bill's tutorial from beginning to end. Since I see Bill has been reading this, great job Bill. At the same time it would be fun and useful to someone else do a similar thing every couple of years. There are always new people coming in to the hobby. And a lots of old farts who forget things or didn't pay attention the first time through. So I'd love to see another basic building skills tutorial. The only thing, Bill set a pretty high standard. But, I'm sure it can be done. Go for it Rob.

Yes he did, and I know I'm not in Bills league, but mine will be different. I'm going even more basic than he did. No opening panels. No airbrushing, no dehydrator. Just a simple clean build using the tools that your average 16 year old could get his hands on with ease. I appreciate the support from everyone. I will be starting the work tomorrow morning. I intend the model to be a Christmas present, so that's my timeline.

Sounds good to me Rob. I'm sure you'll do just fine.

Great premise! I seldom use more than the basics. I use spray cans, a number 11 eXacto, tweezers, sand paper, small files and weathering chalks. I have a wire cutter I use to cut straight pins. My big high tech thing is a Flexi File frame! I keep three of them with different grits hanging on hooks over my bench. I do have a small battery power drill that I use with my tiny little bit set. I made my own spray booth.

I never use an air brush and don't own a dehydrator. I own a Dremel but only recently pulled it out of my cabinet to make an effort to use it!

I'm pretty low tech!

However you decide to present it, I'm sure it will be of value to builders who want to learn.

I've ALREADY picked up several great ideas from reading your previous build threads, so a big "thank you" from me for taking the time and effort to give the benefit of your experience to the community.

I respect anyone here who takes the time to photograph, write up and post tutorials here on the boards. It does take a lot of time and effort. Many folks here who don't contribute in this way do not understand this. And there are the ones who don't respect it, and post jabs and otherwise disrespect those who do contribute. I notice that the worst offenders are people who never post threads of value, and never share their builds.

I agree. I hate taking in-progress pictures, other than just quick hand-held cell phone pics. Anybody that takes the time to set up a backdrop and take quality in-progress pics certainly has my respect.

I've already started it. I will complete the build, write the tutorial and release it all at once, in one continuous thread.

I'm not a super fast builder, due to work demands, but the model is planned to be a Christmas gift.

I appreciate all the support. I'll go ahead and lock this thread now, it's served it purpose.
