Hey Clay, they're vinyl graduated back drops, with a matte finish. They dont absorp liquids oand if they get dirty, you can use soap and a bit of water to clean them. I think V 's is made by "adorama" they cost around 70 dollars if there the ones Ive seen. But I found this http://store.tabletopstudio-store.com/cubltowhbafo.html only 35 for a 20 inch version..Il be getting that. You can find them on ebay also..in much bigger versions, for around the 35-40 dollar mark, but Im not sure how well they are made. type in Graduated Vinyl

1950 Ford F-8 Big Job
RyanSilva replied to RyanSilva's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks Aaron! Those dimensions will Help. Chris sent me a pic of the frame as well, I may just order the stake truck kit anyways, I can always pop some molds off the key parts in the kit. Oh a sleeper!? Hmmm..now that gets me thinking. Id love to see that loadmaster, I want to build one in the future, Ive been collecting plenty of reference. -
1950 Ford F-8 Big Job
RyanSilva replied to RyanSilva's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I started one half last night. I cut the fender along the body welt lining, I may even redo the welt with thin strip. I added 1mm thick 4mm wide plastruct strip, then stacked 4 pieces to get the contour shape correct. I will need to grind away the underside also, but thinking last night, it seemed easier, that could change however when it comes time to the other side. Little rough.. This is a build I've been itching to do for a long time. I've always liked the early medium duty and heavy duty 3 ton tractors of the 50's, but with alot of the old resin casters out of business (sjs, ron cash etc) One is back to just building from scratch again (nothing wrong with that). So here is my take on the F-8 Ford, using the scale auto magazine scans I found here.. http://members.fotki.com/modeltrucks25thscale/about/ (click each page) I might base it off the c-600 stake truck kit, using the conventional chassis that is included with it, this should be a slow casual build. I plan on a 1964 Chevy c60 cab and a 1955 2 ton also. Hosted on Fotki Pictures are very very hard to find! Here is what I've gathered http://public.fotki.com/73OldsOmega/refere...1953-ford-f-7-/

Impressive Chris! I love these old single axle Fords, nice color choice...cant wait to see what is next. Chris could you do me a favor and measure the height of the frame rails on the chassis? millimeters is fine, I might be building a scratch chassis for a F-8 (1950) and want to see if plastruct or evergreen has a similiar size. thanks, regards! -
Oh man, Rob, your son did a awesome job!that looks great! Great idea on those stripes. Post it on the sticky thread at the bnb dio forum We have a ww3 sticky there.

Nice review! I never got this kit, but always wondered what it looked like inside, thanks for this! Bill, I was thinking the exact same thing! Floor plans look very similiar, If it does fit, That's great since you can pick from 3 model kits with the same floor plan, (427,gt or the comet)

Thanks Dennis! I was so close to painting the hubcaps, but noticed the decals, so I used them on generic baby moons, worked well! I should clarify a bit on the nail head. It uses parts from the Tony Nancy 22jr double dragster kit from revell, and Revell Tommy Ivo "showboat" 4 engine dragster. I used the Tommy ivo-engine block, heads, intake and valve covers (weiand) Tony nancy -oil pan, and headers. The timing cover and water pump was taken from a studebaker 289 engine from the 1953 starliner kit. I had to sand the back down some, but it fit. I used the pulley and alternator from Revell 283 chevy engine, from the 1964 chevy SWB truck. The tommy ivo kit, has 4 nail heads! But the base pans are canted diagonally

No worries Ken, I got thick skin, and criticism is good I didnt overlook the chrome wheels in the rear, The way i replicated it was, to capture the look of scrounged parts from many sources to create a tire shredding hot rod. One thing you wouldn't skimp out on would be good slicks and wheels, thus the slightly new "fresh" look to the back. Even many "rusty" hot rods and such now a days that carry great patina wouldnt skimp on the tires and wheels, well...maybe wheels but rarely tires. That's just my view, one thing I like about weathered models is, no one is ever wrong, mother nature and the human opinion combined create endless views!

Thanks guys! It was pretty fun, I did take a break..I get burned out easily..

RyanSilva replied to mercuryman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I got a AMT buyers choice Model T bucket 2 in 1 a few years ago(or was it 3 in 1?) that had front and rear wheels identical. or closely resembling those.
