1932 ford woody , woodwork on the body started (real wood)
crazyrichard replied to crazyrichard's topic in WIP: Model Cars
tonight i sparyed the whole cab and interiour baby blue .. the idea is to mask of the interiour and keep that kind of matt baby blue and do the cab (front) high gloss . then paint some dark blue matt accents in the interiour .. also build the chassis with as much as possible parts on it .. also done with a certain idea , i also sprayed that completly baby blue (so all thats on the pictures below). when that dryes i will spray it high gloss with clear coat , after that dryes i will paint a lot of parts chrome . like the struts , shocks , drive axle , axles etc etc so the combination will be high gloss baby blue with lots of chrome doing that because the body will be mostly wood so i think that mix will work out great no pics of the painted parts they are drying atm , i hope i dont have to redo some earea's i had to piant indoors due to the weather / tempature so it was not real handy .. i usually paint in my shed (?) workplace -

hi yes thats a good idea i also thought of bying some laminated sheets in a diy shop but i already know i can make panels without real obvious seems from the dark wood here is a workbench top i made from the same wood its sanded smooth , on the benchtop i weathered it with black , so on the woody body i would not do that but you can see it will sit real tight against eitch other -

after the last post i made the round rear , bend some styreen sheet and filled the top so behind the rear seats there is an edge again the rough start some filing and sanding rounded the edges some more , doesnt have to be perfect because its only a base for the woodwork -

made some nice progress today first made a new rear piece out of styreen , first made a back plate and filled up the openings with styreen between the interiour panels and the rear plate the rear is now straight and boxy , but i will make a curved plate over that so when i add real wood its will sit slightly curved added the fuel tank top with filler opening and flattened the whole rear section i also shortened the frame so it doest stick out beyond the fuel tank idea for the frame and to make the whole edge a bit round instead of straight then i could make the frame light and the panels dark somethinglike this also remver the top of the front windscreen with the piece of roof that was still there , glass will be lower i sanded the rear frame round and made it flow into the gass tank beginning of the drivetrain mock up and ride hight , kind of had to do it like this , not really super realistic but i hated it way up high ,, since i put the body on the frame instead of channeled and i wanted it lower will try to make something better out of this with some suspension , so please forgive me -
hmm very cool and interesting !!!!!!!

it doesnt really say what stain , its a bit red-ish and pretty dark.. i really wanted a light frame and dark inserts but i will have to flip that to a dark frame and light inserts .. just because the dark wood i showed is the perfect size for the frame .. i will sand it real smooth for lacker so it will become somewhat lighter i hope the plan is to first paint the whole body , the hand paint the outside where the wod is coming black so when i create gaps for panellines there iys dark in between . then clear coat the whole body so the paint and wood is shiney then paint the interiour separate -
looking great so far !

just flattened the whole chassis , going gloss on this one then sanded everything and made wheel wells , actually strat to look like the examle i posted the well edges will be trimmed back so the wood is fluch with them not the tyres i will use but just mocked up the axle and ori wheels to look how it came out to show the idea the wood flush with the body , that strip of wood will become half as wide so the scale is the same as the original plastic kit wood -

well it was a real puzzle to figure out how to make a real wood body . first i made a light wooden frame and ended up with a frame too thick for this scale .. i also have smaller wood but thats dark , i'm convinced after sanding it will look great also in the end this is all i'm using of the whole body lol did a dryfit wih the floor on the chassis so then i came up with the idea to glue the interiour panels in place , its actually sitting like it should sit only the body isnt there . also glued in the dash for stiffness and now its one whole piece > front body > floor/bench and panels because the body is gone i can make the wooden frames against the interiour panels and i have a good base to build on with real wood. this is just to show the wood i'm using , good thing is its so thin its bendable so i can make a curved wood rear body instead of a boring square boxy one here you can see the whole body is still removable from the chassis , actually like the original exept there is no outer body maybe make the hood removable on the rear i will have to make a custom shape -
