What would YOU like to see as a model

Here we go again! I'm only allowed to participate in this mental masturbation once a year. It is fun. But, it gets boring if it's done too much. -
Terrible Box Art
unclescott58 replied to Junkman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I got quite a few Palmer kits as gifts when I was kid. I think their box art was aimed at older non car enthusiasts adults, who would see things like Thunderbirds doing wheelies, and think those were what us car crazy kids wanted. Plus, the Palmer sold for 98 cents. Rather than $2.00 for the good AMT or MPC kits. You can get two Palmer kits for the price of one AMT or MPC. What kid wouldn't be more happy getting two kits? Rather than just one? Talk to old model guys. I don't know of anybody who ever bought Palmer after owning just one. And yet a lot of guys had a few Palmers in their collections. I had several back in the day. Always given to me by someone caring person who knew nothing about cars or models. "Oh, little Scotty will like this. It has a car doing a wheelie on the box. All the kids are in to that now days. Scotty will love it." Wrong! But, one has to be polite and thankful. After all, they think enough of you buy you a gift they thought you would. That's my belief why Palmer bothered. They sold a few. -

Good old Palmer. If you think the box art is bad? Wait until you see what in the box! -
Canadian 340 Dart Website

Yankos and Baldwin of Canada. Just with Dart Swingers, rather Chevys. Cool. -
Below are just three trucks in my fleet of Sisu Trucking. All are Monogram, now Revell, 1/32 scale SnapTite kits. There is the Ford AeroMax. A Kenworth T600A. And a Peterbilt 352 Cabover. All skill level 1, curbside kits. But, very nice looking kits despite their simplicity. I do have one problem with the Ford AeroMax and the Kenworth T600A. Unlike their sister, the Peterbilt 352, they do not fit back in their boxes when your through building them. At least the Peterbilt fits by laying it on its side in the box. The other two are too long. Most of my kits, when I'm done with them, go back in their boxes for storage. Certain models like these trucks, are a problem. I really don't have the space to display them. And yet I have no way to safely store them. Does anybody out there have any cheap, and serious, ideas of how I can resolve this problem?

You are right about the paint. I love that particular color.

Other than the headlights, it looks pretty good to me. But, than again. I'm no Cobra coupe expert. -

I never understood why Tom Daniel's Ice T was painted yellow? So I painted mine instead with Testor's Ice Blue One Coat Lacquer. An ice truck should be of an ice cool color.

One of my favorites of Tom Daniel's designs. Built box stock, other than the addition of a map of North Africa.

Here's a build I did a year or two, ago. You'll notice I did one thing a little different from what I've seen other people do with this kit. The feet and hand sticking out of the tiki hut, I painted green. I figured by the size and shape of those feet, we are not looking at a normal human being in there. I figured it has to be Rat Fink! Hence the green feet and hand.

I don't know if this can really be considered a "big rig"? It's in 1/87, HO scale. It's an old Revell kit from the early 60's, built straight out of the box. The cars are all pre-built HO Fords.

Your favourite Box art

Non-automotive. But, we've slipped from that a few times here already. The original box art for Aurora's Batman model kit. Done by my favorite comic book artist, Carmine Infantino. IMO nobody could draw Batman or the Flash as well as Infantino. -
Batman has always been my favorite Super Hero. Ever since I got my first Batman comic book back in 1963. By the way, I still have that comic book. It was Batman #159. The main story was the Great Clayface - Joker Feud. The backup story was The Boyhood of Bruce Wayne Jr. The first one is a classic. In fact it's was reprinted in The Greatest Joker Stories Ever Told. The Bruce Wayne Jr. story? Not so much. Yet it was reprinted in DC's Greatest Imaginary Stories featuring Batman and Robin. Any how. On to the model kit below. It's the Revell reissue from 1999. Using extra parts I bought on eBay, I was able to build it so it looked like the original version as put out by Aurora back in 1965. I was also able to purchase a repop of the original box from Mosters In Motion.

Another fun Moebuis repop of an old Aurora kit. In this case, The Creature From the Black Lagoon. This kit first came out in mid 70's. It's a bit small than most figure kits, including Aurora's original Creature kit. This was designed as part a series, called Monsters of the Movies. Unlike the Famous Monsters of Filmland series, these new kits were in 1/12 scale, rather than the traditional 1/8 scale of most figure kits. Still, I like the looks of this Creature better than the original. So this is the one I decided to go for. One of the fun things I did with this kit, was using Tamiya Diorama Texture Paint on the base. In this case, Grit Effect Light Sand. The results were great. Though it basically ended the use of the paint brush. That's okay. I think it was well worth it.

Yea. The above box art is great. It seems to me that I read someplace recently, that the kids on the fence are all the artist kids in real life. In fact I saw a photo showing the scene staged for the painting. I wish I could remember were I ran across that.
