Sorry Casey. Cadillac never offered an Eldorado before 1953. The car would be based on a Cadillac Series 62 convertible.

Again this is an older kit. Typical of what MPC kits were at the time. The best way to get "detail" on it chassis is with paint. Which is how we did a lot models details back in the day. A steady hand and a brush, the old Caprice will look pretty good underneath.

How did we manage to survive?

No. no. It's, "Get off my lawn, you rotten kids!" -

How did we manage to survive?
unclescott58 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Man. I love those old safety driving films. Like those above. We think people are careless and stupid today. Well they are. But, as you can see by watching the above films, carelessness and stupidity have been around for a long time. Oh, and by the way. Sometimes I'm sorry to say that I'm one of the careless and stupid myself. I seem to be getting better with age. But still, I can slip into that carelessness and stupidity sometimes all too easily. The above films aren't just nostalgic fun. Sometimes they are good reminders. -
After over a year of thinking about it, with my love of Ford GTs/GT40s, I went ahead and finally purchased the old Aurora Ford GT in its last Revell/Monogram reissue. It's going to interesting to see what this kit is really like.

She tolerates Corvairs? I'd hang on to that one if I were you. Speaking of Corvairs. Did you see that I just recently I got two very cool resin Corvair conversion kits from Modelhaus that I'm working on? A '66 Corsa convertible. And '67 Monza 4-door hardtop.

You hit the nail on the head Brian. I too have seen that video. I love the looks and features of those old cars. But I really an greatfull for what we have got today. We do drive the best built and safest cars even in history. But, other than one or two of them, very few new cars light my fire. Most bore me. -
Trophies, plaques and medals/ribbons
unclescott58 replied to Nacho Z's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For years I've MCed for a show for the 1:1 stuff. And I'm amazed by the behavior of certain people who did not win a trophy, but felt they should. The questions and sometimes incriminations. It's not pretty. And the show is done by public voting! I just don't understand this, and never have. By the way, most of the winners at the show are okay folks. And I love MCing the trophy presentation. At the same time, I've had little to interest in winning a trophy or any other award for myself. And I don't know why? Then again, I am also not a great model builder. I do not enter many contests because I'm aware of it. But, I love building and owning models. And again, trophies and other awards really don't turn me on. I did win one second place ribbon for one model one time about twenty years ago. I think the ribbon maybe in the same box as the model is. I'm not 100% sure on that. That's how much I care. -
Working on Revell's '41 Willys pickup. The rear suspension is interesting one on that one. Even at 58 years of age. Plus 50+ years of building. It took me a while to figure out how to put that one together. I remember trying build Revell's Henry J back when I was about 13. I believe it has the same chassis as the Willys. I know I got it somewhat together back then. But, I'm not sure how looking at it now.

Fotki or Photobucket?
unclescott58 replied to Oldmodelmaker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I need to learn more about these services. How to use them. And how to post pictures here using them. I'm a bit of a Luddite when in comes using computer technology. There is a lot of stuff out there that I'm assured is easy to do. Yet I can't seem to figure them out. Half the time, I don't even know where to start. -

In your first post here above Harry, you mentioned ambulance chasers. And right above that mention, is the picture of a '59 Cadillac fin. Which I find ironic that back in the day a lot ambulances were based on Cadillacs with those exact fins! Overall I hate the new products that are designed to protect us from ourselves. Actually protect the stupid from themselves. I want my tail fins, lawn darts, etc. back. I don't need an airbags. I learned to buckle my seat belt back in the 60's. At the same time, I don't want anybody telling me I have wear a seat belt. I'm smart enough to figure this stuff out for myself. I know not to throw lawn darts straight up in the air or at other people. I know a hot stove will burn me. I'm tired of being treated like a idiot. Let the idiots out there get what they deserve. Don't take my fun or freedom away from me. -
CAR TooNS is back
unclescott58 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've yet to see one in any store around here. The magazine is published up in Thunderbay, Ontario, you'd think as close we are to them here in lower 48, we would have magazine all over the place. Darren can get them at stores in New Mexico? But, we can not in Minnesota? How does that work? I love the new version of the magazine. But, I've had to get my issues directly from the publisher in Canada. Thankfully I got a subscription. -

Trosley in it. But, by no means the only artist. At most he's doing only two or three pieces in the issues I've seen so far. He's there and still my favorite. But, there is plenty of others art in their besides his. By the way, no Krass and Bernie. They are replaced by a guy and gal called Deuce and Pnstripe. But, their stories are really not that all different from Krass and Bernie. -
1970 Le Mans Movie
unclescott58 replied to Mike 1017's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That for sure is not a Mk III, the "true" street version of the GT 40 series. Wrong rear end for a Mk III. Also it's missing the scoops on the upper part of the rear deck to be a Mk II. And the MK IV is a totally different car. I'm guessing it's one of the many Mk Is that were used as road cars. -

Do a web search for their web site. If I knew how to set up a link, I would.
