The rumors about the seats being wrong. They are not wrong. The optional headrests make people out there think these seat are wrong. Headrests became an option on many GM cars starting in 1966. MPC's '67 GTO represents an interior with this option, as the it did back in 1967. The same with the Rally II wheels. These are correct for 1967. Your right about the tri-carb set up, Charlie. Other than on Corvette, all other GM cars lost they're multiple carb set up from the factory after 1966. But, MPC still offered several Pontiacs model kits with this set up, right or wrong. The '69 and '70 MPC Bonnevilles came with tri-carbs! But these kits were originally aimed at kids who would not know the difference, and think its cools. The interiors and bodies are more correct because they are based on the Promos MPC produced for Pontiac and others. Promos of course are curb sides. No engines. I'd be willing to bet the engines used in the late 60's Pontiacs was tooled up in the mid 60's. And again, since the kit is aimed at kids, why spend the money tooling up a correct engine? I think it's Drastic Plastic that has web site showing old kit boxes and instruction sheets? If you go to that site and look at the MPC instructions for their '67 GTO, you'll see it's the exact same kit. Headrests and all. Scott

Krylon Fusion Paint
unclescott58 replied to teardrop96's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
From what I'm reading here, I think I'll be sticking with Tamyia paint. I'm seeing no advantage to using Krylon's Fusion paint in building model kits. Scott -

All I can say, is Wow is that nice! Scott -
I agree that Revell's '66 is a better kit. But, the old MPC kit is not all that bad. I have the recent white plastic one. And I built one years ago when I had a much lower skill level in model building. If I could build one then, I have no doubt that I should be able to do it again. And make it look reasonably decent. This kit is not a "piece of garbage". It's not up to the standards of more modern kits like Revell's '66. But, I'm a reasonably good a model builder. I can take up a challenge to get a '67 GTO which I like a little better than the '66. Though I do have the Revell '66 Goat too. Scott

Poor Capri did not start "as a pretty nifty, stand alone Ford sport coupe, one of the successes in the gas crisis 70s." Poor Capri started as a Lincoln Capri in 1950. Lincoln offered models called Capri right up through 1959. So the name starts with Lincoln within Ford Motor Company. There were at least two Ford products in the 1960's using the Capri name. There was the British Ford Consul Capri, the predecessor to the 1970's Capri. In fact it's replacement, the Capri Mk I, brought into this country in early 1970, was introduced in Europe for 1969. It was not designed for any upcoming gas crisis, few expected down the road. It was designed to be the European Mustang. Which it was a great success as. The second use of the Capri name in the 60's was on Mercury's mid-priced Comets of 1966 and '67. The Comet Capri was just above the Comet 202, and below the Comet Caliente. It replaced the Comet 404 of 1964 and '65. And it was basically replace by the Montego in 1968. I think few would think of Lincoln if they brought back the name Capri. The 1969 through 1974 European Ford Capri Mk I was such a hit as a small and inexpensive sport coupe, I think the name will always be remembered by that car. Few if any, remember the use of the Capri name by Lincoln in 1950's. A great name. And a small Lincoln convertible maybe a great idea. I'll just not sure it should be called Capri. Scott

Cool Greg. A '69 Falcon. I envious. Hate what AMT did to that kit in later years. I'd love to build one stock someday. Scott

LOOK! ZINGERS!
unclescott58 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What Zingers? Oh, you mean the car thingies in front of the gal in the bikini! Just kidding. It's fun to see these pictures from time to time. Funny thing is I didn't like Zingers when they were first out years ago. Now I like them enough that bought four of them with their last release. Bought the Dodge A-100 van, the Dodge B-series van converted to the pickup (Little Red Zinger), the VW Beetle, and the Dune Buggy. Now I think they're cool. Scott -
Love the Lindberg Caravan. Built a real nice one. Used real window tinting film to tint the rear windows. Looked at the kit again recently. Somehow lost the outside mirrors. Anybody out there have a spare set they are not going to use? Scott

Avanti seats four. More of a GT than a sports car. Scott -
Will GM's problems ever end?
unclescott58 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Harry, I know I'm part of the problem! Look, here I am again seeing what others have say on subject. I think it's a sickness. Like I said in my last posting on this subject. It's like a train wreck, I just can not stop looking. I may complain Harry. But, in someways that's half of the fun. That and stirring the pot a little bit.. Scott -
Krylon Fusion Paint
unclescott58 replied to teardrop96's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
What is Krylon Fusion? And why would I want to use it rather something Tamyia paints, or Testors lacquers? Scott -
I hate to question Tim Boyd on anything. But, Tim that commercial was from 1986. Not 1988. And as far as Lincoln being the number 1 luxury car at the time? I know Eldorado and Seville were dogs at the time of their redesign in the late 80's. But, I thought the DeVilles and Fleetwoods sold fairly well. I know the Buick Electra/Park Avenue sold well for sure. And even that generation Olds 98 was somewhat popular. The only time I thought Lincoln knocked Caddy off it's thrown was in the early 2000's? I was in college from 1986 though 1991. I was and am good friends with the owner of a Buick store at that time, who I eventually went to work for. So I followed the success of the new mid-1980's GM front wheel drive C-bodies at the time. During the late 90's, all through the 2000's I worked for that dealer. At that time they owned both a Buick/Jeep (and Eagle) and a Lincoln/Mercury franchise. We sold a lot of Town Cars, Navigators, and Grand Marquis through our Lincoln/Mercury store. But, our big seller at the time was the Jeep Grand Cherokee. About 10 years ago, they closed the Buick/Jeep store in the intercity. Moved to an outer suburb, keeping Buick, and adding Pontiac and GMC. About the time Ford discontinued Mercury, they then sold the Lincoln franchise to a Ford store (?). Interesting watching both GM and Ford destroy fairly good selling brands of the mid-80's. Buick and Oldsmobile were doing very well at that time. Pontiac had come back from near collapse in the early 80's. Mercury was a slight confused mess. But, Sable and Grand Marquis sold well. The Lincoln Town Car was hot. And the new 1988 Coninental was well received. How did they screw things up so badly? I've been a big Buick fan for years. My folks drove Oldsmobiles and Mercurys. My one sister drives nothing but Cadillacs. As time goes on I'm less enamored with today cars. They're great cars from a reliability and durability standpoint. But, they do not stir my soul. They are bland and boring. I have not been turned on by a Lincoln since the pre-1980 Continental and Mark V. The last Town Car in its final form was OK. But, that's about it. Scott
