It maybe a lossy kit. But, I like it. Keep sneakin' peaks at them on eBay. But, just not willing to pay the price. Very nice job Alan. Scott

OK, time for my useless opinion on this one. My feeling is Ford killed it's Mercury division by moving Lincoln down into that market, and several Ford products up. Wiping out the need for Mercury. Not a bad thing for the Ford division. But, a terrible idea for Lincoln. So many of Lincoln's model lineup should have been branded as Mercurys rather than Lincolns. Lincoln needs to move up. "Basic cars" like Fords, Chevrolets, Toyotas, and even Hyundais are pretty fancy now days. One needs to make Lincoln, Cadillac, and others something special now days to compete with the luxury features offered in the lower makes. The present Lincoln lineup has nothing that grabs my attentions and says luxury the way certain Cadillacs, Mercedes, or BMWs do. It looks like it would make a great lineup of Mercurys. Other than too high of a price for Mercury's price bracket. That's my two cents worth. Scott

Will GM's problems ever end?
unclescott58 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Rather calling this posting "Will GM's problems ever end?" It should be called "Will this posting ever end?" Just as everybody has a belly button. Everybody has an opinion on this subject. Which is fine. But, it seems like we're starting to beat a dead horse here. What is beginning to be the point of this discussion? Where is it going? And how much longer? I'm getting a little tired of it. But, like a train wreck I can't help but looking (and you can take that in more ways than one). It's been interesting. But, what more can be said? Scott -
Painting part 2. A lot of car kits will not give you a guide on what colors to paint what. In general the directions given with your Corvette are true for the same parts on different cars. The biggest difference will be in the color of each brands engines. One web site I use to help in finding correct engine colors is, Engine Enamel - Hirsch Automotive. This is a fairly good source, but not always 100% correct. They were wrong on their color suggestions for early 60's Oldsmobile V8 engines. This is again where I'll search the web looking for pictures of the real cars to see what something should look like. By the way, early 60's Olds engines from the factory are mostly painted red. Now you can throw out everything I've just said above if your building custom or drag cars. Real drag cars. Search the web. Your own drag car or custom? Go wild! Have fun! Just about anything goes. A heck, anything goes. Scott

The kits instructions do include painting instructions. Look on page 2. The whole upper half of that page is the painting instructions, as far as matching correct colors to the parts. The only place I depart with them on is painting the body and interior. My '58 body is going to be painted a non stock, for '58, color. I plan on painting mine Testors One Coat Lacquer, 1844 Ice Blue. With White coves. Beyond that, I'll basically be following what the instructions say as far painting the kit. Scott P.S. In the last year I learned to quit using Testors enamel paints for the bodies of my kits. My paint jobs have improved 100% by switching to Tamiya paint, which is a safe lacquer for plastics. I will also sometimes use Testors One Coat Lacquer. Not as good as Tamiya's. But OK. I'll still use enamels for engines, chassis, etc. A big warning about using lacquer paints. Most lacquer paint is to hot for styrene plastic. If your using lacquer not specifically designed for styrene, you need put down a good primer or base coat first! Other wise the lacquer will ruin the plastic.

Polar Lights VW - Spider-Man Issue Kit Review
unclescott58 replied to Tom Geiger's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Great review Tom. I was very curious if this could built as a stock Beetle or not. As you may or may not know, the Polar Lights Herbie the Love Bug kit was base kit for my Batmobile Beetle conversion, I built a couple of years ago. (I posted pictures of that kit in underglass about a month ago. For those who wish to see it.) I liked the kit a lot and have wanted to build a stock one since. I have mixed feeling about the missing sunroof. My dad had a used '63 Beetle he drove back and forth to work in the late 60's. Great car. Green with a sunroof and gas heater. We loved the car. You know what? I still have the sunroof from the Herbie kit. It wasn't used in the Batmobile conversion. Cool I can pickup this kit a build my father's Volkswagen! Scott -
58' Corvette Roadster Starter & Fuel pump
unclescott58 replied to CrazySpider's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Always feel free to ask questions. And I and others will do our best to try and help you. You noted your new to model building. I hope find it a rewarding hobby. But, sometime the instructions are not always clear if your not use to building models. I can see where a newbe might not understand looking at the Revell '58 Corvette instrucutions, that those partial diagrams are showing the right side of the engine above the oil pan. If I hadn't built as many Chevy smallblock as I have, I might too have been confused by how it's shown in those instructions. Remember, there are no stupid questions. But, sometimes there are stupid answers. Trust me. I'm in the field of education. This I know. Scott -
'54 Chevy kit... Is it any good..?
unclescott58 replied to Ramfins59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If you have the '54 Sedan Delivery, you have a pretty good representation of what the two-door Sedan kit looks like. From what I remember they are very similar. Scott Aho -
No plastic 2014 Stingray kits? Could it be?
unclescott58 replied to Len Geisler's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Want a promo of both the coupe and convertible when they show up. I'm always more interested in promos rather than kits when it comes to new Corvettes. I have been that way since the 84's came out. I have promos of Vettes before '84. But, building kits of post '82 Vettes just doesn't do it for me. And I don't know why? I love the new 2014 Corvettes. And I'm waiting for the promos. Scott Aho -
Very nice as always Tulio. Scott Aho

The Foose version. I guess that answers the question I was going to ask. Is this the Revell or AMT '64 Impala? It looks like the trunk opens. So I figured it had to be the Revell kit. The Foose comment confirmed it. No offense meant, but from your pictures it doesn't look like it is that much better than the old AMT kit. I've been wondering about these modern Revell remakes of old AMT Chevys. I have purchased their '59, '60, '65, and '66 Impalas. All are nice kits, and have not released by AMT in many years. I've seen the the Revell '58. And there are enough differences with the AMT '58 that I plan picking that one up. But, looking at your photos, other than the opening trunk, what advantages are there to the Revell after the kit is built sitting on shelf looking pretty? Scott Aho

How does one get a hold of them? I did a search on the web, and found no direct link or catalog on line. Found Dr. Cranky's YouTube review. (Not one of his better reviews. Looks like he was having a hard paying attention in that one.) Found a Fotki album showing some of the stuff they offer. But, no Hot Curl. Is there a direct link to contact them. And any idea what they might charge for a Hot Curl figure? And, does Hot Curl come with a surf board? Watching Dr. Cranky's review, I trust that Replicas & Miniatures of MD is a good outfit. And surfboard or not, if the price is reasonable I buy their Hot Curl figure. I just hope there is an easy way to get a hold of them? Scott Aho

Them Duke Boys are back (mini movie)
unclescott58 replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm surprised more people are not commenting on this. I'm not a big Dukes of Hazzard fan, and yet I liked it. Just watched it again for the third or fourth time. I don't know why, but I found this video to be a lot of fun. Yahoo.... Scott Aho -
Drooling over the new Mustang...
unclescott58 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A dumb in little thing to note. But, I like the fact that they kept the sequential turn signals in the rear on the new Mustang. Ever since I saw that on a Thunderbird as a kid, I thought it was cool. Necessary? Probably not. But I like it. Scott Aho -
I'm interested in see your review. I've been wondering about what really comes in the box of that kit? Scott Aho

37 Chevy COE car hauler
unclescott58 replied to crazyjim's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Very nice Jim. My thought on what would look cool on the back is AMT's Black Force coupe. It's just a curb side. With no where near the detail of your truck. But, somehow I think it would good on the back of your truck. Scott Aho -
Ford F350 by Meng Models
unclescott58 replied to martinfan5's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I'm not a fan of modern Ford trucks. But, with all the buzz on this kit I had to look and see how yours turned out. I'm impressed! Looks like you did a good job Mr. Stephens. At the same time, between the subject and the price I will be definitely passing on this one. Modern Ford trucks are just too much for me. I think it's ridiculous that you need a step and a handle to get into the box. Trucks were for hauling things. Try loading this truck from the sides. Good luck! But that just me. I still think you did a nice job on the model. Scott Aho P.S. This has nothing to do with Mr. Stephens beautiful truck. But, why does Mr. Hamilton, above have to keep on showing us his '60 Bonneville with every posting? We understand your proud of it. But, give it a rest! It has nothing to do with other's models we're here to look at. -

58' Corvette Roadster Starter & Fuel pump
unclescott58 replied to CrazySpider's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have the same kit. Look on right side of block, forward just above the oil pan. You should see indentation for the fuel pump. The starter just glues into place as shown. The photo I posted above is a photo of a real small block Chevy engine. All small blocks are pretty much the same. You'll notice the starter is different than the 58's. But location for the fuel pump and starter are the same. Scott Aho P.S. I do a lot of research on line. Type in on your search engine, 1958 Corvette starter or fuel pump. Hit search, then images. You should find plenty of great photos showing you what you need. I rarely build a model now days, without looking at the real thing on the web. -
'54 Chevy kit... Is it any good..?
unclescott58 replied to Ramfins59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Not the best kit in world. Typical Revell kit from the late 60's, early 70's. This includes, the good, the bad, and the ugly, of kits tooled up by Revell during that time period. I believe there is more recent reissue of this kit. I think about buying another one from time to time. Then I look at the instructions for the kit on another web site. And remember why I do not want to do that. Scott Aho
