Funny I subscribe to SA. But, do not use their site. And I don't know why? Is it any good?

My thoughts on the reason for Pure Oil decal too. At the time the 904s originally raced at Daytona, Pure Oil was the sponsor gasoline used by NASCAR. I wonder if they were expected to or forced to use Pure gas when running there? By the way. I miss Pure Oil. When I was kid, it was just about the only gas my dad would buy. I loved their Firebird logo. And was sad to see their stations all convert to Union 76s after they're merger/take over in the late 60's. The only thing cool about Union 76 were the antenna toppers they gave out at the time. Im such a fan of the old Pure Oil, that I buy just about any toy I can find released with their logo. Including the the very cool Greenlight service station released in the last year or two. Plus, about two years ago, I built the Revell snaptite Mack truck and tanker kit, and added Pure Oil sticker to it. So I'm a big Pure Oil fan. After all, "You Can be Sure With Pure." I do know there was a jobber who bought the rights to the Pure Oil name several years ago. And you can Pure Oil gas stations in some southeastern parts of the United States.

Original AMT 1965 Lincoln Hardtop Review
unclescott58 replied to RDean58's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Robert I like reviews and links your using here. A very good job. But, I do have one very small nit to pick with you on this one. The body in the above kit is not a hardtop. It's considered a sedan. In case you don't know (and some may not), a sedan has a "B" pillar. The window pillar between the front and rear doors. A hardtop does not have a "B" pillar. Making for a clear opening when the front and rear door side windows are rolled down. Like I said. This is only a very minor, very tiny, nit to pick. This and your '63 Mercury reviews are great. I'm just anal about car facts. So don't take it personal. -
Okay Lenny. A good reference. I got a chuckle from it.

Are you sure about the lack of the Mach 1 emblems? I know the movie car did not have the popular, but optional, commonly seen side striping package. (Mach 1s only came with black or argent paint on the lower parts of the body, standard.) But, I though for sure it had the correct Mach 1 name decals on the front fenders, and the correct decklid stripe with the Mach 1 name on the back.

I've got a previous, Ertl reissue that I'm looking for glass for. Other than the missing windshield the kit is done!

Two there that I'd be very interested in. I hope they do the Mustang right. I was very displeased with the tact Ertl took with the their '71 Boss 351. Using Keith Mark's decals, I converted my Ertl Boss kit into the Bond Mach 1. But, that front bumper in particular just does not work. I'm hopeful that Round 2 will get things right, and give us a proper '71 Mach 1 for Bond to drive. And a Rat Fink Decal Pack. I for one will be buying two. One to use. And one just to have. I got to meet Big Daddy a couple of times, late in his life. What a nice guy. Sorely missed. Such a corrupting, in a good way, influence on me in my youth. Years before I ever got to meet him. By the way, when I introduced Rat Fink to kids nowadays, I tell them that the drawings of Rat Fink, are pictures of my twin brother. Proof? Rat Fink has a big round belly, and flys hanging around him. Just like me! And I can for sure prove it if I take off my shoes and socks. My big toe will stick up in that odd way! The last ones a lie. But, it's fun to joke around with the kids at work. Man I miss them. ??

I too am glad to here that that one one is coming back. I like the 1st gen Rabbit/Golf.

Cool! Where's the time machine? I need two. One to build stock. And another to build a replica of the stock car Parnelli Jones drove at the time.

The Model Kits of MPC
unclescott58 replied to jchrisf's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This video is a great trip down memory lane. I'm wondering if they aimed it at us older folk? There were a few kits they showed us more than once. They must think we're getting forgetful in our old age? ? I loved it. It was a very fun video to watch. I'm amazed how many of those kits I had over the years. Or saw and lusted for on the shelves of hobby and department stores, and in Auto World's catalogs of the time. Like I said, a great trip down memory lane. -
Not much there, yet. I don't have a problem with promoting the other site. But, I don't see the advantage to the other site. What is different about what's over there, than what's being done here?

It looks like people in South Carolina need to pick better parking spots. -
That's video I was talking about. I love it. Been a Stooge fan all of my 62 years here God's green earth. (Well, at least since I was first exposed them. And I know that was well before I went to kindergarten. So at least for 59 or more years.) I'm glad to see that spirt of the Stooges still lives on. I'm sure Larry, Moe, Curly, Shemp, and the others, are looking down please that they are still able to make us laugh nearly 90 years later. Just spent 2 hours this evening enjoying them on MeTV. And now I can laugh a little about the stressful situation we're living through now, with the help of the new(er) Stooges and Curlys grandson. Thank to Howards, Fines, Mr. Steve Andrews, and others for the help this has done for me. If I don't laugh at times like this, I know I'll cry. That why I started this thread, and requested help linking the about video to here. Againg, thank for your help Steve. Back to another viewing.

How do you get video linked to here? There is a funny video on YouTube with Moe Howard (the new version) of the Three Stooges tell people how to behave during the Corona virus pandemic. I'd love to link it here. But, I can't figure out how.

What non-auto model did you get today?
unclescott58 replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Today's mail call included three models. Though none directly car related. The three kits are all for my N scale train layout. And all three are Walthers Cornerstone kits. As you can see, I got Al's Victory Service (slightly car related), Jim's Repair Shop, and Two-Story Frame House. With the experience I've had with other Walthers Cornerstone buildings, I'm sure I'll be very happy with these three also. -
Yea, I too did a search on eBay, and found none. And doing a general search on the web, I think you maybe right Mike. I didn't see any other than actual Pyro versions either. The trouble with searching for one on eBay, is I found a Pyro '30 Packard coupe instead. A kit I've been wanting for a long time. But, I didn't like the price being asked. They did have the option to make a counter offer. I made my offer. They didn't like it. But meet me in the middle. So, I bought it. I'm pretty happy with that find! But, guess what else I found as was looking at the Packard? As noted, the Packard I bought was the coupe, not the more common phaeton kit. And the box art caught my eye. Which I'll have post when I get the actual kit. The drawing of the '30 Packard coupe roofline on the box, looks very similar the roofline on AMT's 1/32 '32 Ford coupe. Interesting. I'll be anxious to see the two cars and boxes together.

The box art for the Pyro kit looks great. It would be fun to see the actual kit photographed along side the AMT kit to see how they compare. By the way, was the above Pyro kit, something that was later reissued under the Lindberg brandname, like so mand other Pyro kits? If the price is right, it might be worth hunting one down. And doing that comparison myself.

Finished this one last night. It's Monogram's curb side, 1/24 scale Porsche 904. Not the more detailed Monogram reissue based on the old Aurora dies, in 1/25 scale. This is the reissue from 1996 of Monogram's own original tool from 1965. I like this version better. It's simpler. Goes together better. And to me, looks more correct. The only problems I had with this kit, deal with decals. The instructions and box art indicate at a Porsche decal and Pure Oil decal be placed on both sides of the car. But, they only give you one of each decal. And as far as I can tell, this has always been true of this kit. So which side do you put these two decals on? The right or the left. It's also thing missing a license plate decal for the rear. Again from what I can tell, has never been included with this kit. Now the question you maybe asking, since I mentioned a Pure Oil decal, where is the one on mine? I don't know. I placed it on the left side of the car, where it belongs, as on the box art. A half hour I went back to check on the model to see how the decals were doing, and the Pure Oil decal was pmissing! Where it went, I have no idea. I could not find it anywhere. I did use Tamiya decal setting solution. And it had no negative affect on any of the other decals. So I have no idea what happened to that one decal. Despite the decal problems. I'm very happy with how this one turned out. In my opinion, one of the three prettiest cars Porsche ever designed.

I love AMT's '32 Fords. Despite what everybody says is wrong with them. I think they look great. And they are a major part of hobby's history. I have several build. And several waiting to be built. As of today, for the first time, I've added AMT's 1/32 scale '32 Ford to my collection. The modern Revell '32s are great too. And I love Monogram's Little Deuce too. MPC's I only "like," because I'm a big '32 Ford fan. I personally have never been unhappy with an AMT '32. Now if could just find the Custom '32 Sedan that came with the Willys Coupe years ago. I'd be a very happy man.

Speaking of things being incorrect for AMT's 1/32 scale '32 Ford coupe. Check out the old comic book ad from the time the original kit came out. That second panel in the ad is very interesting. It shows a modified five window coupe with an exposed engine. And the ad goes on to talk about swapping parts between other kits in the series. Even the Avanti in panel one shows a headlamp setup not offered in the 1/32 version. The AMT 1/25 scale Avanti offered those headlamps as an option. But, not the 1/32 one. The first two panels seen to be mixing up the 1/25 scale kits with the 1/32. The panel showing the eight kits in the series, is interesting and correct. I love that Round 2 has now offered 6 of the 8. We're only missing the '40 Ford and "Indy "500" Winner". As I noted before, I hope Round 2 continues reissuing the whole series. Again, I especially want the '40. The Indy car doesn't thrill me. But, if they release it, I'll buy and build one. Got to have the complete collection after all. One last thing. I love the prices quoted for the kits in this ad. They are only 50 cents each. Back then, a regular 1/25 scale AMT kit went for anywhere from about $1.50 to $2.00. So these kits were quite a deal. In general they are still cheaper than the 1/25 scale kits. But, not by that much of a difference! It kind of makes wonder how they are determining how to set the prices on them? Though I'm not going to complain too much. I'm just happy to have these back and available.
