amt flatbed trailer [done 10/12/13]
kilrathy10 replied to tbill's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I don't see anything wrong with this build....Don't strip it.....Keep it for comparison....The next one you build, (And you will build another one) You'll be able to track the progression of your skills....This looks good, enough to me.... -
Started work on the tractors to make them look a little more realistic....I started by disassembling one of them to see what could be done....I found that if I only change the seat and the steering wheel, it would single handedly bring it to 1/25 scale....So I did this and painted the whole assembly black.....Then I painted the hydraulic cylinders silver, and built a bucket for one of them....I think it worked out pretty good....Now it's just time for some weathering and a mud bath.....I'll get to that pretty soon....For now, here's some pics.... This is what the tractors looked like unaltered and what they look like, now....

This thing is already looking good....Man, white is tough color for me to paint....You've done an awesome job with it....Great work on that engine, too... -
Thanks Guys for the interest and the tips on the interior....I most certainly will test fit the tub, for sure, now, Barry.....Thanks for the tip on cleaning up the inside, too, Clayton......And, Larry, that is a super tip on the fuel tanks....I never would have thought of that....I like the curvature of the ends using that method....And I used 1" PVC pipe for them, as well.....Funny thing....I just used a regular chop saw to cut it....I makes a nice, rough edge, so I could use regular, old fashioned tube glue to cap the ends with .060 styrene....The straps, I made with .250 wide, thin styrene plastic....I don't know how thick....I threw the packaging away, long ago.....Plastruct weld was used, there...And I stretched the frame with .060 styrene, again....I added a piece to the bottom of each side to add strength to prevent sag.....I can't wait to get back to it, and will post more as I go along....Thanks, again, for Your interest.....

I'm glad you finally got this one done....I watched the progress and wondered how anyone has the patience to stick with a model of this caliber for so long....Excellent work, and your skills are top notch....This thing is very well done....Very well done....Awesome.... -

This, actually, looks very good....Especially for a "novice" builder....Don't sell yourself short, Man....The single axle looks great, and that wild red paint...Very nice work...The window you cut is also a nice touch....- 22 replies

Hey Boys....I guess we'd better break some of out piggy banks and change that.... -
This is the first one of these I've ever built....I've heard some bad stuff about getting the cab together, and came up with a solution....It seems to have made things quite a bit easier....I got the cab put together in no time this way....I just added a lip to the insides with a thin piece of plastic and Boom.....Cab is together......Well, anyway, I extended the frame a couple of inches and made a couple of extra long fuel tanks, so far....

I'm with everybody else on this one....This thing looks awesome....Very nice color choice....You did an awesome job on the de-chroming....It's consistent and very well done....With your aircraft modeling skills, you'll be great at weathering this one.....Can't wait to see what you come up with.... I got rid of most of my aircraft, but I still have an old 1/32 scale F-4C I'm thinking about getting on....It's one of my last large scale aircraft.....I really like the work you did on yours....Great job.... -
Italeri to re-release Revell Ford Aeromax!

I'm with you all the way on the return of the Volvo kits.....I, personally, liked the Volvo kits....Yeah, they're curbsides, but Man, they look good when you pair it up to a race trailer....I bought 4, when they were out and acquired a few more just recently....And, you're right about the "staggering" amount of stuff missing that you would need to put an engine inside....About the only thing I would do is rob another kit for the steering....Other than that, I don't see anything else my skill level will tolerate.... -

And this thing is looking Great...Now, that's creative thinking....Outside the box....I'm all over this one..I hope you don't mind if I use some of your idea on my next race rig... ..Can't wait to see more....What rig you thinking of using????

That looks pretty good, Man....I like the color scheme and the center caps look cool, too....Good looking aluminum parts, as well.....Too bad the cab won't tilt, but the bumper looks awesome, so no worries...That trailer would look awesome with a coordinating paint job, though....Just a thought....Awesome work.....Keep 'em comin'.... -

Italeri to re-release Revell Ford Aeromax!

Yeah, I saw that.....I totally am wishing for that FLD, too....Although I see potential with the Ford, I think the price is a little steep, as well, but I know about the import costs.....I'm just glad to see that 359 rotator come back out...And that's priced reasonably.....Even better than when it was first released....Of course, we'll see if that changes....But if you preorder, now....You got it.... -
Anybody up for a modern W900L?

Curious.....I have been loving what Mobieus has done with the Lonestar and Prostar, and I would LOVE to see a T-660 or 700 or even a 2000!!!....I agree, resin models can be a bit pricy, and I know why they have to be, but I'm a modeler with a budget....Mobieus has done a great job of presenting new stuff at a reasonable price, and I hope they don't stop.....
