  1. When mine arrives I'm planning on a Marina Blue/black vinyl top stock build. I reeeally want to find some way to use stock wheel covers (or at a minimum something "resembling" OEM, not rally's or dog dish. I took my driver license test in my dad's year old blue '67 4dr on my 16th birthday in '68. Been wanting to do this for a LONG time ?
  2. Great save! Love seeing restorations!
  3. Great! Love the color combo!
  4. Don't mean to detour this thread, but I have a question for you folks. I picked up this R&R resin '65 Cutlass years ago that I'm assuming had its' beginning as the '64 AMT HT kit? To my knowledge, a '65 was never made? I'm not about to complain though.... my first car as a teenager was a two year old '65 F-85 2dr post bought from my girlfriends' sister/brother in law, and beggars can't be choosy. This will take some massaging to make happen but hopefully it'll look ok when finished.
  5. Great build! Love the choice of chrome reverse too.
  6. I can't claim this tip as my own as there have been a few posts on it years ago, but I was happy to learn of it as I tend to do lots of builds that have built in chrome headlights. I found these at Hobby Lobby and picked up various sizes for the headlights I encounter. After experimenting on a few, I found that using my close up glasses and a real sharp knife I could slice just the convex from the remainder. I was left with what looked like hard contact lenses. These aren't entirely domed shaped so you really have to slice them carefully to get just the dome without sides. I tried the 7mm size and it fit the headlights from my '55 chev gasser I'm currently working on. Granted it will be much tougher on smaller headlights but at least the result is worth it. I sprayed the chrome with Dullcote and then clear canopy glue to hold the lenses down.
  7. Same here Steve ?
  8. Good job! Looks great!
  9. Gorgeous! Like everybody, I especially love the color. Great job!
  10. Beautiful Ludwig! Love it and especially the color choice ?
  11. Love both of these. Anything VeeDub and of course, the "leader's car" ?
  12. After spending some time googling bumpers trying to identify the car these bumpers belong to, I thought I'd ask the experts here. While they look close to the same the bumper guards are spaced different on the two. Any ideas?
  13. The kit I'm referring to is an AMT '66 Impala. Kit is mint otherwise. I can deal with it, just curious If it was something people knew about. Thanks
  14. I wonder what might cause it, or maybe just slipped past the quality inspectors at the AMT factory. It just looks like it was sprayed with dulcote but it's evenly dulled on both sides of the trees.
  15. Is it possible for kit chrome to dull over time? I've seen an AMT kit from the mid 60's where everything looked mint but the chrome tree looked as though it'd be sprayed with Dullcote. I've never seen that before.
  16. Today's mail delivery... complete unbuilt. Never thought I'd like doing convertibles, but they're growing on me ?
  17. I might have to agree with you about the late September release, although my school years were early sixties. The grade school I went to in Madison was right next door to the local Chevy dealer and I would daily (after school) walk past the showroom hoping that the new cars would arrive. We knew when they showed up because the dealership would go through the trouble to curtain all their large windows, holding off the unveiling after building some hype. My dad would always take me there within the first week to try out the new "demonstrators". Such great memories!
  18. Past week or so deliveries.... the '62 Bird is complete and not started. The '60 Merc is missing just a couple of pieces of trim and the windshield frame is broke in the middle (actually repairing it today ?), otherwise complete and not started. The '59 Johan Fury is a restoration candidate that I picked up. Not too bad actually.
  19. You guys have convinced me. I just need to get the color coat to lay a bit flatter then. I'm usually pretty good with that, but this one turned out just a bit pebbly. Overall, I'm not terribly disappointed with the finish, it just could've been smoother. Like I said above, I find the testor's rattle cans seem to me to spray much heavier than tamiya's. Not sure if it's the paint itself or just the nozzles. Fine for wet coats, but hard for lighter dustings. Thanks guys.
  20. Still waiting for side view mirrors (thanks Slusher!) to be placed but this one is finished as far as I'm taking it. First, sorry for the photo quality. I use my iphone and it generally takes pretty decent pix but these are kinda grainy after reducing to 880x600. Doesn't seem to have happened before, but oh well. I'm not really happy with the paint job either. I used Testors Mythical Maroon and, while I like the maroon itself, I was surprised with the amount of gold metallic. To my eyes it's way out of scale to have that much glitter. I resisted the urge to wet sand the mildly rough color coat before applying the Wet Look clear, after reading lots of tips on metallic colors not liking sanding. In hindsight, I think I should have sanded. I'm guessing it might have turned out better. From my experience using rattle cans (I spray maybe 50% of my builds with my airbrush, the other half are rattle can) Testors nozzles spray way too heavy, while Tamiya's cans spray much lighter and finer. Lesson learned. Otherwise, considering the condition of the car when I began I'm pretty happy with adding it to my Pontiac collection.
