Skirt rash. Speaking for myself, I don't remember adding skirts as a kid in the late 50's/early 60's, but it sure seems to have be a popular thing to do. Especially convertibles. Some are worse to remove than others, and I just finished removing a pair from a '58 Edsel that I can say they were the hardest of the many I've done to date. Seems like they're a quarter inch thick and the top edge of the skirt fits up tight against the lower trim on the side cove. They were a bugger. I'll post a few in progress pics in the WIP section soon.

Spaz Stix aerosol. Not happy with them though. I may end up taking the front and rear off and re-doing them. I'm in the middle of an Edsel CV restore and for these bumpers I used, for the first time, enamel gloss black. I sprayed the Spaz Stix shortly after the enamel became good and tacky and the SS really laid down and covered nicely. In my unscientific opinion it worked much better than using lacquer underneath. I think I read that somewhere too.

Proud of this two month build, could be better paint and chrome but with my skill level I'm happy for sure and will make a nice addition to my display case. I used Tamiya white primer then Createx Wicked Red for the body, leaving the B pillar in primer white. Cleared with Duplicolor Perfect Match. Interior was with craft acrylics. I used resin taillights and backup lights. Lucky to score the correct wheel covers, although the tires are not original. I liked the medium WW's better in this case. Being from Wisconsin, I'm partial to the color scheme ?

Patience paid off in looking for one of my grail cars. Prices of nice 61 Impala 4 doors can run to the moon (for me anyway) so I told myself to just hold off til the right one came along. This one obviously needs some repair work, but I'm ok with that. I began taking it apart before I took these pics which is why it looks really kitty-wampus. I have a donor SMP '61 HT that I can use for the driver's side A pillar and the front valance. The body flexes good so repairing the two big cracks shouldn't be too bad. There is a small chunk missing from the passenger side crack, but again it shouldn't be tough to fix that either. Glass and interior are great, bumpers will need TLC. Not sure how to approach the friction chassis though. I'm fine with the curbside aspect of this but I may use the donor SMP's chassis in place of the metal friction piece. I'm guessing it'll fit the four door, but won't know for sure til I dig things out to check. I have lots of good memories of our family '61 four door hardtop and have wanted to replicate it for a long time. It was seafoam green with a white top. We took long family trips in that car each summer, one being the New York World's Fair in '64 when I was 12.

Dyno Don PS Pinto hood scoop
hedotwo replied to hedotwo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The two I see on this page aren't quite the same as Dyno Don's but one of them is closer than the other IMO. I may contact them and check, but I'd still appreciate anyone here that may have a pic or two. I have the instruction sheet that I can go by, but thought the photos would help too. Thanks Ralph -
I have a Dyno Don MPC Pinto kit that is complete except for the hood scoop. I've asked in the wanted section a while ago but as yet nothing has come of it. So, would anyone have a built up that they could PM me good closeups of the hood scoop? Or even the stock unbuilt pieces would work. It doesn't look like it'll be too bad to make my own if I have to. I can use google images, but having the closeups from the kit would help. Thanks!

Just received 4 sets of wheel covers from Les (stitchdup) all the way from Scotland! Les needed nothing in return from me, so I'm extra grateful to him. Great guy! Rich

The Vallejo is masking. I have vinyl tapes (Chartpak) also, but they're harder to use in my opinion. I have Tamiya 2mm tape that I like and it's a resin material. Good stuff too.

Thought I'd share a good find if you're like me and are always looking for good tape. I ordered these two rolls from Amazon and they arrived today. Misleading at first when you look at the package because it's a twin pack but it looks like only one roll was included. The two are stuck together and need to be carefully separated. I then put them into their own sealed bags. I have a current need for this narrow tape and tried out a small piece to see how it adheres and it's great. Now, to try painting with it. It sure looks like it'll work good. 1mm is pretty narrow ?

Absolutely no hurry Steve. Sorry for your loss... we lost our 14 year old a few years ago and it was harder than we'd expected. Rich

The rear bumper has the Toronado script. My book doesn't show a Johan 67 Toronado but does list the 70. If the parts are from the 70 kit I'm hoping they'll work with the 67 body. I didn't have to pay much for this builder so not having everything matching perfectly is ok with me on this one. Oh, and I do have the remaining parts. I just didn't include them in the pic I posted. Other than the passenger front inner fender. Hopefully I'll be able to find that one.

Thanks Mark ?

I bought a partial (lacking the passenger side inner fender) Toronado kit from ebay a while ago and finally got around to looking at it. To my surprise the body, hood, dash and steering wheel are "normal" off white while the remainder of the included parts are black. I haven't done a complete inventory but all the major pieces are accounted for. There are no manufacturer stamps on anything that I can see. I know MPC, AMT and Johan made Toronado kits, but I thought I also read Palmer did too? What kind of a mutt kit do I have here?
