Plum Crazy vs Plum Crazy?
CJ1971 replied to Joe Handley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Firstly may I say... I ONLY wish Dodge sold the Challengers/Chargers down here in Australia, stuff the colour, I'll take any colour if they sold 'em here!!! I know tonnes of guys who wish they could get 1, including my 21yo nephew ( who loves Mopars thanks to his uncle ?? ) With Ford/Holden closing their factories by 2016/17 & having no local performance vehicles for sale we all know Ford will be selling the Mustang here & strong rumours GM will be selling the next generation Camaro here, then Dodge REALLY needs to step up & sell their Chargers or Challengers here, or the Challengers replacement. Ok as for the new "Plum Crazy" Vs the old... Most of you guys would know of the Velocity tv show, Graveyard Cars, I assume? The owner Mark Worman is a Mopar genius. I can't quite be 100% sure but I think it was in Season 1, where they were restoring a '71 Challenger R/T in Plum Crazy. He only uses PPG, as they were the original paint suppliers to Dodge/Plymouth back in the day. In the episode/s concerned he showed the differences in the new paint Vs the old, comparing paint cards to the original paint on the Challenger's door jam area. There is a slight difference but I believe how the eventual colour appears comes down to the clear-coats, not so much the base coats. He also had paints/sprays all his cars, unlike today's manufacturing painting process. -
The older the kit.. The older the decals. I don't build nascars but I'm fairly sure there are modern after-market companies that make very good quality decals for NASCAR kits, both new & old. Worth investigating if you're into doing more of them ??

That's exactly why I don't use them Harry ? & they're just TOO temperamental. So many other types around that are way better, for final results/polishing, that enamels are basically pointless in comparison. ??

Pro touring Ford Mustang 1965 (widebody) update 11.05.2014
CJ1971 replied to patami's topic in WIP: Model Cars
It's a challenge alright, if you still plan on using styrene... ? I don't see it working better than the Tamiya Epoxy putty though mate ?? -
Pro touring Ford Mustang 1965 (widebody) update 11.05.2014

Patami... I think your project is stalling because you've gone about doing the mods the wrong way/ wrong materials. First, do you have reference pictures of what you want to accomplish - of a real 1:1 Widebody Mustang?? If not, Google ( images ) 1965 Mustang wide body. I have done this already & you will find a particular blue '65 widebodied Mustang. You can use this as a design study for your build. 2nd... Using styrene for the widened front/rear fenders is too messy & time consuming. Try getting some Tamiya 2-part epoxy putty. This stuff is perfect for your mods. You can shape it around the wheel-wells & once dry you can sand it into the shape you're trying to achieve. ?? Hope this helps ? Cheers Cliff This is the epoxy putty you will need... This is just 1 picture of the 65 Widebody I found... -
I don't know if the PE set for Aoshima's BRZ will fit Tamiya's BRZ... You might do some test fitting first? They are quite different in size & actually Aoshima's BRZ/86 kits are much more accurate than Tamiya's. ??

I don't see how this stuff is "great" when it takes 3 days to dry.... ?

Steve McQueen's Ferrari to be Auctioned
CJ1971 replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Correct about the NART Spyder. It was on an episode of Chasing Classic Cars earlier this year. I too, think McQueen's 275 will go for $12-15million... Easy. Rare car & rarer owner ?? -
Matt... Have you tried EBay, search Hobby design Wheels ?? Found these on there... Think they're the same as Janos? Or try this link http://www.car-model-kit.com/117-wheels-rims-tyres/22515-kahn-santagata-wheels-for-lp700-hobby-design/ Cheers Cliff

G'day guys, my first post in this section & my first post entirely since late 2012. I won't get into it now/here but the last build/project I completed ( Dec 2012 ) was a special B'day present for my best mate, who sadly never got to see it, passing away 2wks short of his 43rd B'day. I've been through a lot of depression/sadness over it/him & I'm still not, nor will I ever be able to completely be over his loss. This project though has helped me a come a long way since & it's a similar theme/build for the same purpose. It's going to be a present for another mate, for his big 5-0th B'day in June. He has no idea about the "caged surprise" but he does know I'm building a replica of his 1:1 Land Cruiser. ( Albeit without all it's patina & worn paint etc.) The surprise is a custom Ferrari 250 GTO that's getting hauled by the Land Cruiser, on a trailer ( die-cast/customised ) & in it's own little "shark cage" ? I used the Tamiya 80 Series kit as the base for his 1:1 & the Fujimi 250 GTO for the "Shark-Car". I made all the necessary modifications to the Toyota to get it looking like his 1:1, including the Tow-Hitch/bullbar/rear-windows/wheels/spare tyre/dashboard/seat covers/carpeting/rear door-licence plate section/both gear levers ( high-low) Under hood detailing/antenna/water bottle/roof racks & had all the decals custom made for both cars. I used automotive paint ( true Toyota Blue Slate colour ) & Tamiya white/mix of blues to get the Blue on the GTO. I used Pegasus Hella? Wheels on the GTO & Aoshima 20s on the trailer, with both centre sections painted Testors Titanium. I made the "shark" cage with square styrene tubing & used Alcad stainless steel to paint it all up. I stripped the die-cast trailer & repainted to match the GTO's colour scheme & added BMF. The GTO's paint scheme is similar ( to keep it in period correct theme ) to the GULF cars of the 60s. The GTO was chosen because it's Italian, like my mate is & because it was produced between 1962-64. He was born in '64 & I know this is a '62 year GTO but there are no standard '64 kits available. The closest is a transkit/resin that use's this Fujimi kit for parts & it was waaaay over my budget, so I didn't think he'd mind or know that it's really a '62 ? I've themed it to his favourite Rugby League team, the Cronulla- Sutherland Sharks. Both cars are polished & close to being finished. I just have some minor parts to add, mirrors, wipers & strapping the GTO into place on the trailer etc & then I'll wax them up & put them in their display case, ready to give to him on his B'day ?? Anyway here are some pics ( 1:1 Land Cruiser first ) The Shark car/cage Land Cruiser... Cheers & thanks for looking, Cliff

Matt I believe Jonathan ( Martinfan ) has already built his & he posted a WIP thread here... Maybe ask him via PM or check his build thread here.. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=85983&view=&hl=&fromsearch=1 As usual I've also got this kit, along with all the other Exotics but haven't gotten around to build any of them to date ?? Lol! Going to keep a close eye on your build 'cause I love ya work mate! ? Cheers Cliff

The Excel was kitted?? Was it a late '90s model ( 97-98?? I have a really good friend that owned 1 & would love to make a replica for her! ? Any idea where I could find 1? I've tried many sources, including EBay, but have come up empty... ? Is this the kit you're talking about??
