1965 Plymouth Hits a Tree
CJ1971 replied to 1930fordpickup's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Tend to agree with you, Harry. I actually just saw the re-run episode of 5th Gear last night, with this very test. There is absolutely NO way anyone, in any car, old or modern, could survive a 120mph, let alone 150mph, ( 197kmph-240kmph ) crash head-on. They estimated the G-force from 120mph - 0mph at 400Gs!, going from such excessive speed to zero in under 1sec... Not survivable. Something is not adding up... & just looking at the pictures... It doesn't look like a head-on... Nor does it look like it was a 150mph crash. Looks like a front side impact. There's only 1 way to get to the bottom of this "myth".... Gotta write into Adam & Jamie & let them test the 150mph crash.... See if Buster makes it out alive ?? -
Have you ever had that uneasy feeling.....

It would be nice if you could keep the sprues in place until after paint/sand/polish but due to their locations you can't... Unless you want to touch up all the areas they're located on & that's really not an option on this particular car ? It was more accidental that I broke mine, it snagged while I was taking it off the bench & because of it's fragility... Pop ? it went. But like I said... Easy enough fix & will eventually be held in place by the side panels ??

What I'd like to see IS real Overhaulin' cars, as they have been converted by Foose, in kit form & NOT a re-issued kit with similar wheels & incorrect decal sheet/s. Correct body parts, tyres, wheels, interior, engine, suspension, trannies etc... Not hard to replicate with today's 3D printing/scanning technology... ? Being a Mopar fan ( Harry?? ?? ) any of the cars on Graveyard cars. Would be easier than Overhaulin' cars, because most are factory stock.
-
It's good that they're there before you have to cut them away... Then the frame/body becomes very fragile... Trust me... I already snapped the 2 supporting sections, a 2-3mm section on the bottom of the front wheel arches... Easily fixed with superglue & will be held together once the side body parts are added after painting. ?

Nice!! X2 on favourite Ferraris of all time! ??

It's an action movie, you have to take it for what it is. It's not going to win any Oscars, that's a given, but I bet it'll be far better than Need For Speed, which I recently wasted 1.3hrs of my life on. What a load of utter rubbish that was! ?? It just about plagiarised every car movie of the last few decades... & the script.... Drivel. Anyone who intends on watching it.... Use the mute button. Utter... Utter... JUNK.

It's a hobby, Art, building plastic model cars, not real 1:1s. There is only so much a builder wants or can do to his/her model. Not EVERYONE wants or needs their build/model to look "real" or builds to enter/win modelling contests. Most of what you've listed is unrealistic for modellers who build for themselves & for fun... It's a hobby... Not a professional career.

Pet peeve.... People who say/comment : Great job! Nice work! Fantastic! Superb! Awesome! - when in reality the model they're commenting on is rubbish, poorly put together & you could pick it apart all day because of all it's flaws. They should do what I do... Don't say anything. Pet peeve 2 : builders/modellers who can't or don't appreciate constructive criticism, especially when it's clear they're amateurs or beginners. Pet Peeve 3: other modellers/builders who criticise you for constructive criticism.

Model Building Stereotypes
CJ1971 replied to MustangGuy23's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just an idea for ya mate... Try this... Does your school have a football team, or do you all follow the State team? I'm not familiar with the American School system/NFL stuff ? that's why I ask? Anyway... Why don't you build a theme model, any car you like, in the school/State footy team colours, with emblems/logos etc. Get it displayed somewhere in the school/classroom where most of the students will see it... Then sit back & wait for the reactions from your fellow students/teachers... ? You might even wind up getting asked to build models... For $$ ?? Cheers Cliff -

Model Building Stereotypes
CJ1971 replied to MustangGuy23's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I hear ya mate ? I don't fit any "mold" I'm not as young as you nor am I an old fella.. I've just turned 43yo. I got interested in this hobby from a young age, mainly because I love cars, thanks to the Dukes of Hazzard's General Lee. Since then it's been an on/off love affair with the hobby. There's been years ( mostly teenage ) that I took a sabbatical & years when I just couldn't buy/build enough. I don't fit the "modelling/modeller" stereotype either. I've had plenty of girls come & go, ( still single- no wife or kids ), I look after myself, I'm fit & healthy & told I'm easy on the eyes ? I socialise just as much as the next guy but I'm not an alcoholic. I don't do drugs or gamble. I spend as much on myself, clothes/men's products, as I do on kits/supplies. My real friends know & can appreciate my hobby & it doesn't matter to me if they don't... It's MY hobby. Just as I don't care they like to fish, golf, paint etc... The friendship is what matters to me... Not what they do in their leisure time. At the end of the day, it is what it is. It's your hobby, no-one else's, & it only matters if YOU enjoy it... Not anyone else. You're not alone champ... Just remember that ??? Cheers Cliff -
Taking a real good look, the wheels look like they ARE in fact from the GL kit. I have built many of them & have stripped the chrome off them too. Once stripped the wheels are ( molded ) orange, same colour as the body etc.

Getting into it, questions. (long read)
CJ1971 replied to Owie's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Spot Model isn't British... It is Spanish. They supply Zero Paints ( some of the best paint available today ) after Hiroboy ( British ) was unable to supply their paints Internationally because of the English Postal Service. eBay will have nearly everything you want. Most retailers/hobby shops sell their products there. You're into "Tuners" & there are several great Hobby on-line retailers, of which I personally have bought from... Hobby Search, Tokyo Hobby & Hobby Link Japan. These retailers stock nearly every new Japanese related kit as well as supplies, wheels etc. Get your parents to set up a paypal account. You can't go wrong & all purchases are gaurenteed by them. If you limit who you buy from, American only, your budget won't stretch as far as you'd like it to. -
Guys it's been a long running issue, both here & on SA. Apparently it's racist ( politically incorrect ) to show the Confederate Flag. Yes .. I know... Load of rubbish. BTW... Nice duo Jonathan ??

I also have this kit & no sadly it doesn't have full engine detail. It's curbside.

Have you ever built a Tamiya kit? Very similar... There are some intricate pieces but very well detailed & easy enough to assemble... As always.. Patience ? I have the Murcielago SV & Aventador hard-top. All are top quality & build into great replicas ??
