  1. the other thing worth updating about was the 24th of August. I went to a Volkswagen drag day! I won two races, where I beat a 16V GTI and a Scirocco the morning before... My first race.. Us standing around it while trying to figure out how we can reduce some weight to go faster.. We found a way! Me, my best friend Conor on the left, his sister/my lady friend on the right... a rather good Pit Crew as it happens!
  2. So since I was just reminded that I hadn't updated this in a long time, I figured I'd treat you guys... Well, first of all, it passed all of it's MOT/State Inspections without a hitch! Not bad after 8 years off the road. We took it to it's last show of the summer on Sunday... And on the way home...
  3. Thanks everyone, very much appreciated! @Oscar - Indeed, thanks for asking! We had it out for a run to a show yesterday. I also took it drag racing.. I must update my thread.
  4. As a bonus, next to it is my very first model I finished, alongside this, the most recent one. And four years in between. Thanks for looking, all comments appreciated
  5. #2 - Nissan Skyline GT-R (R35) Calsonic Impul - Gran Turismo 5 (PS3, 2010) Used in the Suzuka Circuit 1000km Endurance Race, in which I won first place. For pretty much as long as the series existed, there has been a Calsonic Skyline in it. It is, arguably, the most famous livery of the JGTC/Super GT, matched only by probably the yellow and black Pennzoil Skylines that used to race in the 90s. The newest version, the R35 GT500, was first featured in Gran Turismo 5, and it was the 2008 version. It was this version I used in the Suzuka Circuit endurance race to great effect, and racked up more miles on this car than any other I used in the game. So, when I think of this game in the series, I normally first think of this Skyline. The car in question (I know, this is a shot from GT6 and not GT5, but you get the idea) I used Tamiya's new kit, which fits amazingly, but unfortunately doesn't match this car exactly as it's a Fuji Speedway winning version.. so there's a few differences. (No canards on the front, bigger arches, different mirrors, decals that aren't in the kit for this car but are on the car in the game.. etc.) So really, it's more of a homage to this car, as it's not a perfect replica. I decided to make it as a "post-race" version, with light weathering. Thankfully, it didn't rain during the race on the game, so I didn't have to do any hard weathering - as it's the most expensive kit I've ever bought, it would've been a shame to make it too dirty. I had to custom make some canards, they're not perfect, but I'm not really a scratch builder and they'll do the job for me. So without further ado, and with my obligatory GT Collection licence plate.. here's the Calsonic R35.
  6. Cheers lads Close, but no cigar. You'll have to wait and see. A Skyline R34 is definitely on the list - two, in fact - the yellow one from Gran Turismo 2 (I liked yellow back then, okay..?) and then the Mine's version too.
  7. I always really liked these shots.
  8. Thanks everyone! I'm working on the next in the collection as we speak. Think... Blue.
  9. So, I’m starting the Gran Turismo collection of models, since I found that doing a collection inspires me to build more - like it did with the 90s Rally Cars. They’ll be signified by the Gran Turismo licence plate on ‘em, somewhere, and I’ll mention the game(s) I had the fond memories of playing with that car in. So, to start off on what will probably be a looooong time going.. is a Toyota Supra. Reblog The Gran Turismo Collection. #1 - Toyota Supra Twin Turbo - Yellow - Gran Turismo 2 (PS1, 1999) I've never really liked the Toyota Supra. I know that some people see the car as a God send, but to me, it's always just been.. bleh. I've never really found any of the variants to be overly attractive, and the whole Fast and Furious scene has meant that most examples out there have been ruined. Somehow, though, it wound up in my stockpile. I never really had any inspiration to build it, it was always sorta just... there. But I had the memory of having one in Gran Turismo 2 all those years ago, not very much, mind - but still. It was a spark of imagination, anyway. So, I got ahead with building it. Colour is Ford Signal Yellow. I took some wheels from a Toyota Corolla WRC from the stockpile and painted them gun metal grey. I also opted to paint the headlight inserts gun metal, and the rear ones body colour. Box stock apart from the wheels and my Gran Turismo Collection licence plate. (I know, I didn't paint under the bonnet or fill in the sinkholes.. Truth be told, I never do, my models are never displayed with these open, so I don't see the point. I only really open em to show you lot.) Thanks for lookin', all comments appreciated.
  10. Thanks very much everyone, much appreciated!
  11. Been meaning to buy the 555 decals too. Never tire of building Tamiya 98/99 Imprezas for some reason.. Great build.
  12. Very cool. Must get my hands on more Japanese kits like these. My LHS doesn't seem to get many in.. Must ask 'em to. Gradually work your way onto doing chromes and the rubbers on the windows.. You'll get there in time and you'll be glad when you do.
  13. Again from the 90s Collection.. Box stock apart from the decals, which I took from the parts box to make a custom livery. Thanks for lookin', all comments appreciated
  14. Since I never got around to uploading one of the last of the rally car collection.. Built box stock bar the wheels from a Tamiya Evo. Never was overly fond of the Toyota 6 spokes. Thanks for lookin', all comments appreciated!
  15. Nice work, doing the window rubbers black and doing something with the side indicators and maybe a light grey wash on the panel lines would really lift it too.
  16. Yup, I tried my best with decals but as every person who has ever tried to build this kit knows, they're horrible.. a bit of light weathering covered the cracked ones Thanks!
  17. Wow, thanks for the response everyone, really appreciate it!!
  18. So, I finally finished my collection of 90s rally cars, which was one of my aims for the summer.. They are as follows: Tommi Makinen's 1999 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI Colin McRae's 1999 Subaru Impreza Didier Auriol's 1998 Toyota Corolla My Own Nissan Micra My Own Toyota Celica ST205 Toyota Celica ST185 Test Car 1996 Ford Escort RS Cosworth I'll post individual threads for the Cosworth and Corolla that I haven't uploaded yet, but here's the collection for now That's it for now.. Until I buy more Thanks for lookin', all comments appreciated!
  19. Thanks guys, much appreciated!
  20. Cheers guys! Very handy to know.
  21. Will that work? I had no idea how spray paint would take to being applied with a brush so I didn't want to chance it.. If that would work you'll have saved my bacon on a LOT of builds! Hahah.
  22. Well, to continue on with my rally theme... This build was done in a day, as a challenge to myself to see if I could manage a passable build in a day, which I think I (mostly) achieved.. it's a little rough around the edges (like the window rubbers.. don't even start me!) and sits a little high at the back but hey I'm happy with it. Kit is the Tamiya road version, so I took two bucket seats from the parts box, along with hood pins from a Tamiya Evo VI Rally Car. Wheels and suspension are from Tamiya's Evo VII kit, which surprisingly fit straight on.. I was pretty surprised. Colour is Ford Colorado Red, and the decals are a mix match from the parts box, but mainly come from a Tamiya Toyota GT-One TS020. Rear windows have me and my other friend's name too. He got jealous of my other friend having his name on the Micra believe it or not, so I had to get him on this one So anyways, here it is! The stable's getting more and more full... All comments much appreciated!
