  1. As an outsider to the whole thing (and a fan of ford and chrysler a lot more than chevy) I've always seen Ford vs Chevy as the biggest debate.
  2. There's a few old Irish sayings out there - one of them is "Where there's a will, there's a Trabant with a V8 stuck in it." Stay tuned.
  3. This thing seems to keep rearing it's ugly head... Thanks guys
  4. I'm not sure if favourite means one you had the most fun with, or one you've built the most amount of times... For most amount of times, it's the Tamiya Impreza WRC - I've built 3 of these, with more to be built down the line probably. I could build that kit all day. As for what I think was probably the most fun? It'd have to be Revell's Plymouth Superbird. I love the superbird and I could probably build endless variations of this kit. Everything fits great and it looks stunning. All it needs is the RoadRunner decals... This one was built back in 2012, must build another one sometime soon.
  5. Any 68-71 Plymouths, either Lime Green or Plum Crazy. Subarus, blue. '68 Chargers, forest green. Renaults - Renault Sport Yellow. Shelbys - Guardsman Blue with white stripes. Dodge Vipers - blue with white stripes. Audi Quattros - Tornado Red. Land Rovers - Green. Ford GT/GT40 - Gulf Blue. Mk2 Golf GTIs... Tornado Red They're the first ones that spring to mind, at least..
  6. In a lot of my build threads I normally post what music I was listening to, to get me into the zone. Usually, I'll blast music from my two favourite artists - Queens of the Stone Age and Sophie Ellis-Bextor (Either her new album, Wanderlust, or her first one, Read My Lips..), but with over 5,500 songs on my iPod, I'm never short of something to listen to
  7. You're all too kind!
  8. Unfortunately, that quote WAS as a named driver. Which sucks. But thankfully with the company I'm with at the minute, they do no-claims for named drivers too, so I can build up my NCB to get driving the GTI sooner. Thanks everyone!
  9. Thanks for the kind words everyone! I dunno, that VW has potential to be pretty darn cool too... (The difference was it was the ka in the background that time.. But she got new glasses too!)
  10. Yeah, but the thing that annoys me is that it's the car that I did all my learning in and lessons in on the road - it's not as if I wouldn't be used to the power of the car and I'd be at risk. But try telling that to the companies. Oh well. Yeah, that's for a year!
  11. Well the insurance companies wanted roughly £8000 to insure me on the GTI. So that was a no. The Fiesta and Ka were both at around £700. But after a year or two, the GTI insurance comes down to around £1500.. Go figure. I'll be able to daily drive it soon... Yeah, it's a complete loss. It's not emissions, it's a common problem in that age of Fiesta... We've had it in the family from brand new in 2003 I think, which would be the very start of the production. Pro tip: Leave a car for a year or two for the teething problems to be sorted before ya buy 'em new... The problem has dipped in and out now and and again but it was last here two years ago and it only lasted a day. This time it lasted a every single day for a month and we've tried and replaced every possible thing, but all to no avail. Nothing's coming up on dealership computers. So it's just lying around the back of the house too till we eventually get rid of it. I won't be getting any tickets, I'm a very smart driver But nah, having the GTI there and the thought of being able to drive it soon if I'm good on the roads and don't get any tickets or anything that would effect my insurance is enough to keep me sensible!
  12. I try to build a miniature garage of cars that I would love to have, exactly as I would have them in 1/1 scale, whether it's with options and colours that are factory or not. That's my motivation to build.. I'm here on the forum to show my stuff, to learn from others and to gain inspiration from builds.
  13. You may remember that I had a build thread up on my 1:1 scale GTI... Well, I don't think I posted on the forum about this, but, I took my driving test a while back.. and I passed first time! So proud. Dead chuffed. That explains a bit of a lapse of model building.. but I'm now road legal! Unfortunately, thanks to insurance companies being horrible, I can't insure the GTI So I was stuck with the Fiesta... Which, after I had refurbished the wheels to gun metal gray, didn't look too bad. So yeah, I passed first time! No faults, flew through the test. Had insurance sorted instantaneously the second I got home, and it was time to go out for a rip! R Plates put on the car, a restriction in the UK/Northern Ireland by which new drivers are restricted to 45mph for their first year of driving. I can honestly say, this is horrible. I can't wait till the year is over. And literally within two minutes of passing my test, I had a demand for a mini road trip from a certain someone, so that was in order... And it was all smooth sailing until... disaster struck. Literally within a day, the car was broke beyond repair. Something called an EAC fault, and we tried literally every single plausible thing to fix it, took it to dealers, took it to mechanics, all to no avail. Sent the car into limp mode and lost practically all power. Was practically dangerous to drive. And no.. this wasn't due to me! So now.. I'm in my mother's car. A ford Ka. and this thing doesn't even have the decent wheels going for it. Spot the difference... I've also made a point of not washing it, which has led to some funny looks and some interesting artwork... I do feel bad for the GTI, lying up and not being able to be driven, and now getting snow... But who cares. Every school boys biggest goal. I can DRIVE!!
  14. As an avid gamer I would absolutely love and more than likely buy every model in the series if there were the likes of Gran Turismo branded models. Especially with things such as that skyline with the custom decals based on a car that's in the game.
  15. I've got mine on the bench right now, just needs sprayed. I can only hope it turns out half as good as this one...
  16. Cheers
  17. I think you've just made my dreams come true. And inspired me to work more at school for the next two years of my final course.. Strongly, strongly considering this.
  18. Thanks very much everyone!!
  19. Thanks everyone! I made it that way myself: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=92530&hl=
  20. Thanks guys! I had never thought about the radiator in the firewall.. I think it's a bit late for that now though!
  21. My Gorillaz "Stylo". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhPaWIeULKk
  22. 1955 Chevrolet Stepside. Whilst there's still stuff I'd like to do to them, I'm considering them finished for now. Thanks for looking everyone, all comments are much appreciated
  23. 1969 Plymouth GTX Dragster.
  24. So I've been super busy doing my most detailed build ever, alongside a pickup that's supposed to tow it.. I got these kits second hand, and unfortunately the pickup supposedly has a tow bar but it wasn't in the kit. That's why these two are paired together.. the original plan was to have a trailer and have the dragster on the trailer. I'll get round to that eventually. ANYWAY. Now that that's out of the way... Coming from where I do, American car kits unfortunately aren't as common as I'd like, so I don't get to build them as much as I want to. But that makes the builds I DO get to do a lot more enjoyable.. I decided one day while bored at school, I'm gonna make a dragster. You know the sort. Big back wheels. Small front wheels. White letters. Scoop. One condition... it HAD to have a Hemi. I also wanted something cool and old to tow it around to shows and races... which leads me with these two! I'm gonna give the break down in this post, and then I'll post the completed pictures of the two in the next post. So, to start off. The first one. The Plymouth, the one I started with. The paint is Tamiya Olive Drab. Modifications: boot opened, and custom floor made because I no longer have rear seats, and I needed one for the boot. Fuel cell added and wired in. Hood pins front and rear. Scoop added to the bonnet, from the Hemified 68 Charger kit. Seatbelts, Custom racing dash, custom steering column. Fire Extinguisher. Don't seem to have pics of the rest but they're there, I do have a pic of when the seatbelts were done though... Spotlights drilled out for vents. Headlights blacked out. Light weathering (rust). Wired distributor, wired "Moon" battery. Problems: - I had no room for the radiator. The Hemi was too big and it wouldn't fit in. I'm not sure what to do about this and am open to advice as I feel it looks bad without it. Any ideas? - I had no BMF left. So, the chrome trim is painted, but on the GTX I used metallic grey for the side trims to make it a bit more subtle. - Boot wasn't very precisely cut out. I'm still learning how to do this properly. So that's the Plymouth... Onto the Chevy! This kit was made box stock, it's the prostreet version. So I don't really have a lot to say about modifications. I smoothed the badge on the front and added a standard Chevy badge, but that's about it. It was painted Ford Wedgewood Blue. (I know, Ford paint on a Chevy!!) So, onto the pics.
  25. Couple more shots... The 16V beating me in one of the earlier races, but I beat him in later one... Golf’s fastest was 17.1 second quarter mile, top speed of 79.23mph. My best reaction time was 0.223. pretty happy with that for my first time Video of me beating the Scirocco... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEcEYOTauw4 So that's the car basically up to date!
