  1. Ooooo I love this. The mix of Asian and American stuff speaks to me. Seriously need to build a Coronet sometime, it’s been a kit I’ve always wanted. Ya may just have inspired me...
  2. They're based on your internet cookies. Mine's all Subaru parts at the minute. As for yours, well... Guess you must have a rat problem
  3. I am sooo excited for that 306 Maxi Rally car. Wanted that to be kitted for a long time, along with the Maxi Megane which will hopefully follow!
  4. Awesome, I definitely have to try that stuff it seems perfect. Thank you!
  5. Looks fantastic, and fair play for carrying on through the struggles. That would've been enough for me to shelve the project for a long time! I've built this kit a few times over and have a few more in the stock pile. It's typical Tamiya excellence, jiggle the box and it'll come out complete You can see one of 'em here. https://scaledworld.net/wanderlust-evo-vi-time-attack Can't wait to see the end result - very interested in doing a T.M.E. version to go alongside my 22b. Keep at it
  6. That's incredible. How'd you model it? What were the layer heights? My mind is blown, the increase of 3D printed stuff from I was last on this forum has increased 10 fold. We're in the future now, boys!
  7. Awesome! What were the steps for sanding it to a finish you were happy with?
  8. That is gorgeous. So nice to see a non GT-R for a change too.
  9. Have a printer myself. Have a nice little side business going from it printing custom car badges and things. Unique one off stuff. Can't wait to get stuck into making stuff for kits - but my 3D modelling ability to actually design the stuff I fear will wind up letting me down For example, really want to make things like steering wheels and bucket seats. I love converting my road car models to converted race cars but my built up stash of spares is dwindling!
  10. I'm approaching this from a younger side of things as I'm only 22 and have been building since I was about 13-14. I've been building properly since about 2011. All throughout high school, I knew of one other person interested in and built models. One. (We very quickly became best friends and still are.) Most didn't understand it, most appreciated it when they saw the work that went into them but still didn't care for it, and a very niche amount wished they could get into it but said they wouldn't have the patience or the skills. A lot of it to me is the subjects. There are an insane amount of car enthusiasts out there - but to get the younger generation interested, it's all about the subjects. Marketing deals. Do a Gran Turismo or Forza themed line of Tamiya/Revell kits with special decals. That'll get attention. Whilst some are interested in the JDM kits and the muscle kits, a lot of topics that a lot of people are interested in either cost faaaar too much as they haven't been issue since the 80s/90s, or they just aren't kitted at all. If you want the hobby to live on with the younger generation, it would be an idea to aim it at the younger generation. I know, it's never been needed before, but times they are a changin' - model companies have a lot more competition in grabbing attention than they did moons ago. A lot of times, model makers didn't need to push advertising as much, because they didn't have any competition. When's the last time you saw an ad for a model kit on TV or the likes? Cost is another factor. Yes there are those starter packs available, but you can't guarantee those kits that come with paints etc are a subject the person wants. By the time you buy a kit, tools, and paints, you're out a fortune. Yes - we know that's a one off cost - but explain that to the average Joe. It's a lot to spend on a whim for something you don't know if you'll like, especially if you're younger and money isn't exactly flowing. I can't speak for American audiences, but I can speak from my own perspective here in Ireland - we have one model shop. One. In the whole country. That's how well the model market is doing here. I love the hobby - but if it's to thrive, which I would absolutely love it to - it needs to stop resting on it's laurels. It needs to adapt.
  11. Thanks so much everyone, your kind words mean a lot. @Tom - Oh I will be! I'm looking at houses next week, and first port of call is a model setup, I've already got myself a few kits in preparation. @Eshaver - Thank you, that means an awful lot. I may just take you up on that. @Duke - Fun fact, I actually just recently sold a W124! I sold it for funds towards the jag. Almandine red, 1992, Almandine red 230E. Fantastic car. See ya on the bench. Cheers!! Tomo
  12. That looks fantastic! How well did the kit go together? It’s been in my LHS for some time and the fact it’s Italeri has always had me skeptical...
  13. I’m amazed at how well the Fast and Furious wing suits it! Great build. ?
  14. Gobsmacked is the only word to describe, I think. Just, wow.
  15. That’s gorgeous. Didn’t know they’d reissued it... can’t see a single flaw.
  16. Hey all! Some may remember me, some may not. I’ve been here 6 years but lately I’ve drifted in and out a lot, between university and battling depression and any gods amount of things my dedication to the model hobby has sadly faltered. Thankfully, I’ve graduated and a new job and am about to move from home for the first time, and plan to make myself an awesome model desk for the first time in YEARS, so I’ll be having a look at various posts and things on here to see about making a great setup. However, one thing I DID notice, was how dated my profile was on here. I was 20 at last update.. I’m now 22. And I saw that I only had 3 cars listed in my ownership... that number has now risen to 8! So what have we? Well, let’s start from the start! Well, first up is Lara, my first car. A 1989 Golf GTI. The one in my signature. She eventually suffered rust so badly that she needed to be reshelled. She’s mostly done, but awaiting a respray... Next up is Veronica, another Mk2 Golf. Then we have Debbie... After a timing belt failure on a road trip I did my first TDI conversion, using the engine from a Mk3. Then for a laugh I decided to try make it look like a parody of a dealership shoo van from the era... yes it’s a double entendre, and yes it got a lot of looks! Next up is Immy. Don’t tell the rest, but she’s my favourite. Then we have Polly, the sensible one... One of my best works is next, Nelly. She was bought as a non runner, me and my dad got her running, and gave it a full restoration - including my first ever respray! I basically just took everything I knew from model making and applied it to a bigger scale... very pleased with the results! Second last is my most recent purchase - with the new job I’m currently spending 5 and a half hours in the car every day on my commute. Up at 6am and home at 7:30pm... now you know why I’m moving house from my parents’ place! But I needed something comfortable and refined for the trip... and this was perfect. Lastly, is my proudest achievement... I scrimped and saved for this and to own one has always been a dream of mine. 1985 Jaguar XJ6 4.2 Soverign. The pics speak for themselves. So that’s where I am at the minute... for now. Im glad to be back with my Ohana. Hopefully this time, I’ll be fit to stick around. See ya. Tomo
  17. So, the start. I want the car to be lowered. I've cut the springs at the top, and then heated some sprue (my styrene tubing is still in Uni... Next week I'll get it back!) to connect them to the wishbones. After they had set, I cut off the excess. After that was done, I assembled the rest, and got it into a rolling chassis. Brakes were stolen from the parts box. Resin speedline wheels were bought. I've never ever dealt with resin before, so I'll be getting them tidied up before they're painted white. But for now, she's rolling, and I'm happy with the stance. I'll be sorting out an airbrush setup soon before I start on the body. Interior will be relatively stripped. Bucket seat sourced from an old Tamiya Impreza kit - not the one you see on the bench though, it's another build in progress. Mine's decals have been sourced and ordered. Progress will be slow, I only have at most two days a week to build if the mood takes me - but god am I happy to be back at it. Stay tuned.
  18. Hi everyone! So, I've been very out of the loop in the modelling world. But now that I finally have a dedicated model desk again, which is quite an upgrade from any of my prior desks... It's time to get back at it. So, my first car (my real one) was sadly sent to the graveyard in the sky. In scrap I was given £22 - just enough for a model kit. I wanted something that I could have forever in memory of it. So, I went to the LHS and picked up Tamiya's Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI kit. Now, I'm no stranger to this kit as some who remember me may know... But I've decided this time to do a different build on it. I'm going to replicate the Mine's Evo, which some of you may know from Gran Turismo. Pics in the next post.
  19. I actually adore this. Saw the kit in the LHS lately but didn’t bite the bullet. This might change my mind.
  20. I’ve not seen an XJ220 done in this colour before so I’m very interested. I like it. Please be very cautious with the fitment of the body to the chassis - I had a lot of issues with getting it to sit right at the back. I never did get it perfect in the end. Just a heads up.
  21. Looks awesome. Saw this in the LHS when I was in yesterday (I hadn't been in for god knows how long, I'm so out of touch with the hobby) and was tempted. Nice to see it in a different livery.
  22. Thanks so much everyone for all of the lovely comments, I've been flat out lately and haven't had a chance to be back on to thank you all. Working two jobs and trying to build two cars before uni starts again late september takes it's toll! O-man - the less said about my Golfs and their running the better!
  23. Thanks very much everyone, it means a lot! @espo - It's hard to make out in the photos but they aren't California plates. They're homemade ones based around a location in the game called Concord. I designed them up in photoshop and printed them out. Cheers!
  24. Wow, I'm really out of the loop here, I've been away too long. I had no idea that Harry had passed away. This is upsetting. Nobody pushed me to try harder with my models than Harry did. Every one I posted he was in there offering helpful advice on how I could do better, making me strive to make a model that he was going to be proud of. He suggested to Doc that my work be put into the International house of plastic book. I'm happy to see his legacy is living on through other people's collections now, and that we have the chance to own some of his work and have a part of him in our collection. I'll have to get on eBay and purchase one, if Amy's happy to ship this far away. Good on you Tom for taking this one under your wing
