  1. Thanks Tom. Its a fiddly kit, parts require lots of cleanup and I've added many locating pins get a strong/secure fit. Had to section the back half of the passenger side frame rail (+/- 1 mm) to center the wheel in the opening. I'm building up the frame and suspension completely and will paint it as an assembly. I like the truck so its worth the effort to me. I've heard NNL East is a great show but I have never attended. I will probably display the truck at our club's show NNL Mid-Atlantic.
  2. A pleasure to see this beast come together.
  3. I agree the SMH hood is nice. Having already altered the Trumpeter hood to fit the AMT body I'm committed to using it.
  4. Wanted to use one of these engines but it would require major surgery to get them to fit.
  5. Turns out Erick I had some of those wire ferules in the stash. Had to make a low profile oil pan because of the raised front cross member and still had to notch it for the tie rod. Carefully drilled the distributor to accept wiring.
  6. I came up with the header idea after HRM began issuing the kit so the early versions may not include them
  7. Yes I made a set for him to include in the Dragonsnake trans-kit.
  8. The small block drag racing headers are different in that they have only (2) pipes (in lieu of 4) coming to the collector. The set I made for my 289 Dragonsnake
  9. Appreciate you confidence in me Snake I'll keep studying it. Thanks Drew. I put a lot of effort in choosing the wheel/tire combos and the stance. Miss on those and that can really bring a build down, IMHO.
  10. I finally picked up one these kits and am quite impressed with it so I'll be taking notes Scott.
  11. Thanks Sam. The kit was recently re-issued so it shouldn't be hard to find one. I'm planing to add a bit more juice to the engine so stay tuned.
  12. Thanks for the heads up Eric! Those look closer to scale thickness than the turned aluminum pieces I've seen.
  13. You can see the stock exhaust exiting the bottom of the collector and possibly a muffler just under the car. A tail pipe appears to be sticking out the back. I'm guessing it was to comply with class rules
  14. Turned out great Jason.
  15. Yes the restored car has silver headers and the grille surround. I also do not see the unique roll bar in these photos. Either way you choose to replicate the car Ray, original or restored it will be a great looking car.
  16. Thanks Bruce. To lower the truck: At the front I cut down the cross member mounts to raise the lower swing arms. Then removed material from the top of the spindle to bring the hub farther up into the wheel well. As the engine sits on top of the cross member I will have to make some adjustments to keep the engine low enough to allow the hood to close. At the rear I removed the shackles completely from the rear of the springs and deeply notched the frame rail to raise the front spring mounts. To get it any lower I would need to separate the molded together axle and springs and add lowering blocks. I'm choosing not to take that step as the axle is flimsy and I don't want to risk weakening it.
  17. I haven't seen a period photo of the car with silver/chrome headers and the grille surround - Ray, have you found any?
  18. Search with Google, then select "Translate this page"
  19. Spot Model located in Spain carries lots of racing accessories. I have ordered from them several times and have always received my items quickly. https://www.spotmodel.com/
  20. R&M offers a nice accessories set that include the ubiquitous Ray Dot mirrors and HRM offer several excellent wheel/tire sets along with trans-kits and complete kits.
  21. I don't have a lot of reference photos on this car but the period photos I do have the headers are flat black and only the bumperettes are installed at the front.
