The base work was done with Apoxie Sculpt by Aves, I let it dry 24 hours (as recommended) and then covered it with Tamiya white putty to smooth it out even more........the block sanding should level it perfectly in a day or so.
Special thanks to Maindrian Pace (Mike Schnur) for the donation of the rear taillight section from the 1/16 Nichimo GT500!!!
I have been busy with body work on this and am quite happy where it is going..........this is rough (not sanded yet) but you can see that it is coming together. A lot of work yet though! ENJOY!
Because you are not wanting to sand (because of all the steps involved) you should at least wetsand the primer once it has cured with some 1000 grit. Painting over primer without wetsanding will give a rough appearance to the final paint which will show more in a metallic or pearl. The smoother the better for your surface to accept final paint color. Before I paint over primer, my primer surface will have a reflection in it almost like a gloss paint.
Thank you so much guys!
I enjoyed building all these but it was so cool to hear what others had to say while in progress.
Happy New Year to all.........I will be back at the bench!
Joe, I would install the coves, then paint them first, mask off then shoot the rest of the body.
If you paint them first and install after, you will end up with a separating line around the coves.
I have been working on a lot of builds this year....unfortunately, some were not completed in time.
Still have to finish the: 1952 Ferrari 340 Berlinetta Competizione (Greg Wann has it currently for casting)
1966 Volvo P1800s Custom. (Needs the fender flares finished and the body blocked out then it goes to Greg.)
1/16 1967 GT500 "Eleanor" Convertible (In progress right now.)
The ones I finished this year:
My father-daughter build
It is unfortunate that there is not more out there for larger scale builds, but I rarely build anything "out of the box" anyways....so I tend to buy a couple of built ups and create something one of a kind when I have the urge to build a large scale.
I built the Revell 1/12 2010 GT500 as a "Super Snake." It is a GREAT kit for building a larger scale offering that is easy on the wallet.
A little more progress.......
Got the side skirts shaped and glued on. The body is pretty much ready for putty sculpting. What you see will be the skeleton that will provide the shape for what is to come. Oh yeah, gotta do a little work to the front end yet....will shape the area next to the headlights for the projectors.
Why do these people always say "no reserve....." $449.00 starting price sure seems like a reserve to me! As far as I am concerned, it should start at $0 and go from there.
$1.00 would be too much for this con-artist's junk though!
