Starting Revells 37 Ford Converible w/ Trailer 4/26 Update
Johnt671 replied to Johnt671's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks for the offer but I'll pass. I'm not wild about the colors on the decals so I'll keep my eyes open for something I like more then those. -
Starting Revells 37 Ford Converible w/ Trailer 4/26 Update

I think it's just old decals. .The sheet had 1995 printed on it on it, and who knows how the kit was stored. I've had some really old decals just fall into tiny little pieces when I tried to use them. -

I used it when I put the decals on, and again after 24 hours. Thanks for the tip. Trailer is done. I had problems with the license plate decal not sticking on the corners, but a little Elmers glue handled that. I really wanted to use that one because it's kind of pretty. -

I used Meguiare's Ultmate Compound followed by by Novus # 1 because the body was had a lot of static and was a dust magnet. Do you think that caused the problem? -
Starting Revells 37 Ford Converible w/ Trailer 4/26 Update

I got another set of decals from a member in a trade but they didn't work out so well either. I'm going to leave them on until I find something else. Almost done. The decals are from 95 and I guess the glue is funky. Maybe if it dries all white it won't look too bad. -
I went to Ollies in Hazleton PA today and found some different kits in stock. They also had a fire truck, two different 60 Mopar drag cars, an old Pyro/Lindberg Mercedes and some Civil War kits. I got the two kits on top there. I spotted the longer frame in the blown Model T pickup kit and thought that would work with an I-6 motor. I got the Hayder Proffitt 62 Chevy on E-Bay because I learned in the forum that I couldn't make his car out of a 62 Impala kit.

Revell 62 Impala conversion to a Bel Air?
Johnt671 replied to Johnt671's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I bought the Proffitt Bel Air on E-Bay, maybe I can use some of the parts from the Impala to build a more detailed car. -

Thanks for showing the differences. I'm going to try doing a swap. -
Revell 62 Impala conversion to a Bel Air?
Johnt671 replied to Johnt671's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Wow, thanks for the fast reply. While I like the 62 Chevy, I don't like it enough to build two of them. But you gave me the idea of trading mine for a Bel Air. I painted the Impala a nice Dupli-color Flame Red in the fall but if I can't get the tail piece I'll post it in the trade section. -
I bought a set of decals to do a Haydon Proffitt drag car before I found out it was a Bel Air with two tail lights instead of the three on an Impala. Anyone know if a resin caster makes a Bel Air rear panel or will I have to try and fill in one of the rear lights to make it accurate? I recall see a kit for Haydens car but the last thing I need for a while is another kit. Thanks.

Starting Revells 37 Ford Converible w/ Trailer 4/26 Update
Johnt671 replied to Johnt671's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Getting close. If I get a rainy day I'll be able to finish. I think I'm going to look for some resin luggage to load the trailer up, and not glue the body of the trailer so I could take it off and show the luggage, A few more pictures. I wish I used more tan on the interior. It looks funny without a floor shift. -
Starting Revells 37 Ford Converible w/ Trailer 4/26 Update
Johnt671 replied to Johnt671's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks. I had to scrap the decal off because it was so old it started looking funny once it dried. I found a nice double pinstripe that is red and yellow that would have looked good in another 37 Ford kit, but they were even older and just fell apart when I wet the. I will go on with this build, and check the aftermarket for something I can use. -

Some work done. Lawn care and getting my 1:1's ready for show season is slowing me down. -

Some progress. Motor almost done. With the trailer. Chassis and motor mounted to the fenders. I wasn't going to use the decals, but it was a lot of solid blue. The decals broke the blue up some. -
50 Ford Pick Up and Kurtis Midget Racer. Finished
Johnt671 replied to Johnt671's topic in WIP: Model Cars
They're off to the track. It should be pretty nice out tomorrow so I can get some outside picture that will show the gold flecks in the paint. I'll post them in the done section. Thanks to all who looked and commented on this build. -

Starting Revells 37 Ford Converible w/ Trailer 4/26 Update
Johnt671 replied to Johnt671's topic in WIP: Model Cars
It finally got nice enough that I could do a little painting and clear coating. I got to clear the Kurtis racer so I can finish my 50 Ford pick up race team build, so this kit will go on the sidelines for a day or two. Here's where it is for now. -
Nice Cobra, love the paint and stripes.
-
Since it looks like it will be a few days until I can clear coat my 50 Ford P/U race team. I thought I'd start on this kit. I've seen some models molded in and polished I thought I'd try that out and see what I thought. I like it. It buffed up nice and some of the other pieces I will still have to spray don't have to be as perfect as the body. Here's how it looks after a buffing with Meguiar's Ultimate Compound, followed by Novus plastic polish. This is another first for me.
-
I got these three kits trading with forum members. A fast look at the 37 Ford looks like it might be a good kit to try buffing the body up since the model is molded in a nice blue. I got this Charger kit from E-Bay to be a mate to the 68 Charger I finished. Pictures of that one are in the under glass section, and I plan to do it in the same color as the 68, as well as the new Charger I got for Christmas.

50 Ford Pick Up and Kurtis Midget Racer. Finished
Johnt671 replied to Johnt671's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Tried to paint it yesterday, but I guess it was too humid so the paint got funky. Here's a close up of the detail on the flat head. So far this car has been easy to put together. -

Johnt671 replied to Johnt671's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looking like a car. First fit on the trailer. I had to move the front tire stops to the top of the frame. I had put them inside the frame rails but the tires wouldn't fit in them. This little race car is a real nice kit. I'm glad I bought it when Ollie's had them.
