  1. Thanks very much.
  2. Nice. I'm starting to like like builds like this more and more. They remind of years ago when I had a 79 Mustang Gia I was trying to make look half decent. It had a 2.8 V-6 with a Holley intake and two barrel carb. Some guys in my Guard until use to call it an Escort looking thing, I'd reply, saying it was a semi restored future classic and give them duty during the night. Fun times.
  3. I've used Future and Duplicolor clears over fiol and it still looks good. Try the spoon test and see for yourself..
  4. This will be my next build, maybe. I say maybe because this is what the frame looks like. Not good. I'm heating it with a hair dryer, hoping it will get much better than it is now.Strong glue might hold it if I can get it mostly unwarped. I'm planning a gloss black paint job because the racer has some gold decals that look nice on the black car shown on the box. This is the motor I want to use because I have an Idea for the flat head in the kit. I want to get the frame better before I try a trial fit, so I'm not sure about this this being final. I have some thin balsa wood that I can use on the bed floor and some pieces I can load into the bed.
  5. I got these at Michaels in Hazleton PA today. They have one left on the shelf.
  6. This was a relaxing build. It was built out of parts I found in my attic when I moved here 22 years ago. The only thing not in that box is the shift knob, which came from a pin. I have a thread in the Work bench section under the title of Young rodder building a junkyard old Ford that has a story going along with the build. I enjoyed doing the story ( first time ever) and hope you will also. Thanks for looking.
  7. He sure is and he got it ready to go to the drive in diner on Saturday too. Now he's thinking about dates, going to the drive in movies and the prom. He also is thinking about making the car nicer as he earns more money. He'd love a V-8 and maybe a nice red or blue paint job. I hope for his car dreams sake he finds a young lady who will support his hobby. We all know how hard that is, but we'll see what the future holds. I'll post more pictures in the finished section.
  8. Our builder has finished the motor. He did a test fit before and it fit like a glove. Now he paint has to dry and he'll be all set! His stomach is growling for the dogs. It's still looking good for a Saturday drive to the drive in restaurant.
  9. It's a big day. The junkyard called and said his motor is in, so he gathers up the the parts he didn't use and heads to the yard. They have the motor set up and did a test run, and it sounds good. He listens to the motor run and buys it right on the spot. Since he doesn't need to do any work on the motor, he can pick up some paint so he can paint it up before he drops it in. On the way back to the garage he can taste the chili dogs and shakes at the drive in diner. If all goes well he'll be there Saturday.
  10. I have to watch the parking lot at my house. This car belongs to the local judge, and shows up every year to get his taxes done, I hope the weather is is nice this year so I can get more. pictures. I think it's a kit car but I'm not sure, but some more pictures would help.
  11. I was at Michaels in Hazleton PA yesterday and found two of the 30 kits on the shelf.
  12. This makes me sad. Great lob on it but now there's another kit I need to buy.
  13. Took a trip to Michaels and came home with some paint. Spring's coming.
  14. I still haven't one anything with this kit. I've learned more since I bought it, and I think I can do a good job on it now. Maybe I'll start on it in the spring so I can paint it. I still have the old school Hemi saved for it. I'd normally build cars from the 50's and 60's, but I've done a few old car builds over the winter, and I've enjoyed building the. No BMF = : ).
  15. Nice. Super job on the choices you made, the under hood details are great for your first time.
  16. He's been busy trying to get ready for the motor, and has his fingers crossed that it will work out for him. He has the car almost all ready for the motor. He has decided on the headlights and mounted them to the radiator shell, and finished the wheels. The tires that were on the car didn't fit the other wheels he got from the junk yard, so the yard swapped him for a good set they had. The frame and suspension is done. these are the tail lights he went with, and he used one of the exhaust pipes from the yard. The interior cleaned up nice and he repaired the floor shift. He went big bucks on a new shift knob. The interior is done for now. With the tire swap the only thing now not from the parts box is the shift knob.
  17. Thanks for the encouragement. He's been working in cleaning the car up and getting the body mounted the way he wants it on the frame. Here's what he likes. Even though the paint was brushed on and peeling in spots he figures the fancy stuff can wait, his first priority is to get it ready for a motor. Now that he's got this done he's ready for another junkyard run to find more parts. and check on a motor and prices. He comes home with this. He has a couple of options for head and tail lights, plus some chrome exhaust pipes,a broken floor shifter the may be able to repair. a horn and rear mount tailgate so he can leave the rumble seat for friends. He's not sure what way he will go, but the yard will take whatever he doesn't use, so he can't go wrong. Best of all is the yard is getting a Ford flat four in that was rear ended and has a low mileage motor for a great price. Now he really needs to get cracking on the car.
  18. That came out super nice. Great job.
  19. Yes, and best of all it's all free. I'm going to try and and keep it all made from parts in the junkyard box, and not use anything from kits I've bought over the last few years. So far the only thing not in the junk box is the tires.
  20. I'm going to do this build using parts from an old junk yard box I found in the attic. The only thing not from the box so far is the tires, as I couldn't find a decent set. Here goes. It's the late 40's and and young fellow going into his last year of high school. He just got his driving permit and wants a car. He's been saving up for a while now. doing a paper route and when he was old enough started working a a gas station pumping gas and doing simple things to help the owner/mechanic and learning more about cars. He's ready to start looking in yards to see what he can afford, and the station owner told him he could work on the car at the station on his off time. He goes to the yard that the station does business with and looks around, find two cars that he could afford. He love to do the older Ford with the flathead V-8 and chopped top, but there aren't enough parts there. The newer Ford has a lot more parts there, and the is a larger selection of parts for it on hand in the yard. The interior is there and complete, plus is is nice shape. His choice is easy and he goes with the newer Ford. He spends some time scrounging around the yard for some other pieces and near the end of the day leaves with a nice start for his car. He knew he wanted to go fenderless. so he pulled the fenders off and the yard gave him a few bucks off in return.
  21. For those who were interested in this, I'm starting a thread in the workbench section with a small story about the young guy building the car.
  22. That came out nice. I love that color. Time for a trip to Michaels.
  23. Thanks for looking.
  24. Thanks everyone!
