  1. I got a lot done today. It's suppose to rain for the next 4 days so I really wanted to get the paint work done. I dropped the fenders and scuffed the fresh paint and broke one of the front bumper mounts off, so no front bumper for this one.Plus I'll have to wet sand a few scuffs out and paint again.Color is Testor's Bright Blue. Flocking color for the interior. A few pictures of the motor so far. This is my first time using Spaz Stix spray and I'm pleased with the results. I took a few pictures of the painted block and the original kit chrome on the heads and intake manifold to show the difference. The block was also sprayed with Spax Stix clear since I'd have to handle the motor a lot. Also Spaz Stix'ed the suspension, with no clear. No work tomorrow, Happy Thanksgiving.
  2. This kit arrived in the mail as a trade. I wasn't going to start it until spring, but I had an old Thunderbird motor that was in the Tall T kit that been looking for a home. I did a test fit with the motor and found it fit perfectly after some sanding. I shouldn't have done this because now I can't put it down. It's a pretty simple kit but I think it will turn out to look good. I also got the Chevy in a trade but I'm not touching that until spring. This is the test fit of the motor. Now I'm hooked. Testing wheel and tire fitment. The kit didn't have the wheels and tires, but I have a small supply of resin wheels. The tires are from the AMT parts pack sets, the front and rear wheels are from Scale Equipment Ltd and the motor is covered above. The horizontal grill is also from the Tall T kit and fits this kit like a glove I got two of the Tall T kits at Ollies a long time ago, and this kit has so many extra parts it's just crazy. The chrome T-bird motor and the grill I'm using, Several different sets of chrome exhaust pipes and a set of Centerline type wheels. If you like old rods the Tall T kit is great. Is this gap normal to the 32 or should it be somehow filled in? Anyone know were I could find headers or exhaust manifolds for this motor? I want to keep the pipes under the hood. Any pointers or suggestions or criticism is welcome.
  3. I got these kits in a trade on the forum. The 32 caught my eye because it looked like a big block Ford motor that came in the Tall T kit but I couldn't get to fit that model without a lot of cutting. I wasn't going to start this kit for a while because I'm trying to paint another kit before the really bad weather gets here but now I may try to squeeze this one in also. Once I started the trial fit I got hooked on this one. The motor will fit nice. Looks like a trip to the auto parts or Michaels to pick a color.
  4. I'll be following this build. I have one of these I mat start this winter. Here's a picture of one that was parkd by myhouse one morning. It belongs to a county judge. Nice car. Good luck with your build.
  5. I finally got the time to do this. It's my first time working with this stuff but it worked out nice. I sprayed the base coat first, and then several light coats of the chrome paint followed by one heavier coat. Here's how it came out: I cleared the left side of the grill to show both ways together. I don't see much difference in the picture, but to my old eyes the cleared side looks a little smoother and just a bit less shiny the uncleared, but I can't see much of a difference from side to side. I botched the second photo up so I'll try again tomorrow. Maybe the difference will show more after it dried overnight.
  6. I got a few much needed tolls today from Hobbylink. Now I can do a better job on sparkplug wires and use the resin tire stems I have.
  7. More pictured. Duplicolor and Rust-oleum clear 70' paint job. Testors with Testors clear. The specks are dust. Duplicolor and Future. Rust-oleum semi gloss. Duplicolor and Future
  8. I have a mixed group of rattle can paint jobs. Top is a build for the late 70's. I think it's Testors and clear coated. Middle is Duplicolor and Future. Bottom is Testors and Future. More to follow.
  9. I had a lot of trouble with Photobucket earlier in the week. I got an e-mail from them saying they had problems with an update but fixed it. I guess the fix isn't working out.
  10. There's a two piece scoop in the Bill Jenkins 66 Nova that may be what you want.
  11. Use an rubber band around a hemostat rather then snapping the shut. You can control how strong they grip with the number of twists you use to wrap the band around the hemostat, or push the band further up to loosen the grip a little or down toward the finger loops to get a stronger grip.
  12. I had a 95 Mercedes C280. It had an I6 that run so smooth that you couldn't hear or feel it run. I gave up on the car when the engine compartment wiring harness had to be replaced. Mercedes in their far seeing wisdom used a biodegradable wiring harness. Almost all the insulation broke down leaving bare wires shorting out all over the engine.
  13. Thanks. Like I said in the post I had some issues with this kit but it turned out nice, I think.
  14. This is my last and oldest survivor, built around 76 or early 77. It's a curbside and shows the scars of a lot of moves through the years. I built this just after my first wife left and I had some spare time. I've often thought about scrapping it for the nice wheels and tires but I haven't been able to do it. Maybe a soak in brake fluid and a repaint with he proper color read would be more in order for it.
  15. I found almost all of the parts for this one. It was finished in the late 70'2 to early 80's, several moves must have broken parts off of it. It looks like I'm missing two Weber carbs and radiator hoses and the radiator, maybe. Disregard the fan, it's for another build. This should be a good winter job. I hope I can buff the paint out. Thanks for the reply, it did help me find the 289 for the kit.
  16. I just looked through my kits and found what I thought was more of the kit is really an unfinished Monogram kit that I started years ago. I also have a second untouched Monogram Cobra 427 so I have two Cobras to build. Going back to the parts boxes.
  17. Thanks. I'll bet that looked nice. After I started this kit I got another one of it. I wanted to do the Bill Jenkins car since I saw him race years ago, but my imagination got the better of me. I want to do a Grumpy build, but the high rise dual carb engine and nice hood scoop are calling me. Maybe I need a third kit now.
  18. I finished this kit yesterday. I had some minor problems while building it which are covered in the work in progress section, found here. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/113984-66-novabuild I didn't think that it would turn out as nice as it did when I opened the box so I didn't spend a lot of time with details early on. I solved that by buying another kit to different and a bit nicer. This is the beginning: The end: Thanks for looking.
  19. I'm posting finished pictures in the under glass section. As I worked on the build I made a couple of small changes to the kit.
  20. Can anyone tell from the pictures who made this kit? I started it in the early and now want to finish it. I have some parts from two different kits but I don't know what parts to use. The major parts for both kits are gone so that didn't work, and I have a 289 and a 427 motor in the left over kit parts. Thanks for the help.
  21. Your welcome Snake 45. Here's another I started back then but never finished. This was the best paint job I had done from back then, but from moving around through the years the paint is scuffed up. I'm hoping that I can buff the clear coat to get it back. I'm going to start a thread with more pictures to try to find out who manufactured the kit. I have some Cobra parts and another Cobra kit put away, and I'd like to finally finish this kit. Most of the speckles are dust.
  22. I always like that car and the kit. I built several of them in the days of my youth. I need to find another to do again.
  23. Finally done!! I just have to finish buffing the hood and clear it, but it's done. I picked up something at Michaels to try to upgrade my finished pictures. In a day or so I'll play around with the set up and post them in the under glass section.
  24. I built these in the late 70's to early 80's.
